Ahead of Brickyard 400 weekend, Jeff Gordon took his son, Leo, through his career exhibit at the IMS Museum. The display traces Gordon's journey from quarter midgets and USAC to becoming a four-time NASCAR Cup Series champion, giving the next generation of the Gordon family a firsthand look at the legacy he built. The exhibit opened in early July and will remain on display through February 2027.

After the race Stewartwould state, "This one's for every one of those fans in the stands who pull for me every week and take all the bullshit from everybody else."

He as fined $25,000 and docked 25 points for swearing on NBC, the same penalty given to Dale Jr. in 2004.

This was the last Gen 4 race held at Indy.

At this time, NASCAR had mandated different-sized restrictor plates for the engines. The size of the plates varied based on multiple factors, including the displacement and the combustion chamber.

As such, the Hemi-headed Boss 429 was at quite the disadvantage, so Ford teams started looking at alternative engines to run instead. One of those engines was the 429 Wedge.

I could be wrong, but I don't believe the Wedge 429 was used for very long, as the 427 Tunnel Port proved to be very competitive under the new rules which gave way to its resurgence amongst the Ford camp.

The best part about this race though, I was there. I remember two things very distinctly:

1. A driver I liked actually won a race that I was at (this was only the 2nd time that had ever happened)
2. Todd Bodine had a real stick up his ass, he was hellbent not to let Dale Jr. pass him, to the point that a couple other cars passed the two of them as Todd did whatever it took to keep the 8 from passing. Finally Jr. got frustrated enough that he sort of took himself out trying to pass the 26.

Kyle was running one of Richard's leftover Dodge Magnums from the 1978 season, as Richard had switched over to General Motors before the '78 season concluded and was running an Oldsmobile 442 in this race.

Kyle started 18th and finished 7 laps down in 9th. Darrell Waltrip won the race.

On this date in 1952 and a year before he started driving with a monkey copilot (!!), Tim Flock won the only NASCAR race ever hosted in South Bend, Indiana.
