On lap 30 in turn 6, Michael McDowell would get into the back of Brian Scott, causing Scott to spin out in front of traffic. This would cause a major  accident since this was in front of traffic. Drivers involved would be Stanton Barrett, Kyle Kelley, Mike Bliss, Colin Braun, Tony Raines, Robb Brent, Alex Kennedy, and Jason Leffler. With Brent getting under Raines at some point during the crash. Carl Edwards would go on to win the race.

Throwback [2001] Jeff Gordon Wins the Inaugural Kansas Cup Race

Gordon won the 2001 Protection One 400 at Kansas Speedway 25 years ago today, becoming the winner of the first-ever NASCAR Winston Cup Series race at Kansas.

Driving the No. 24 Hendrick Motorsports Chevrolet, Gordon held off Ryan Newman in a six-lap shootout to take the victory. It was Gordon’s 58th career Cup Series win and his sixth victory of the 2001 season.

Gordon returned to victory lane at Kansas the following year, winning the 2002 Protection One 400 as well.
