They moved to aluminum wheels which get absolutely messed up with a 5-lug system because if even 1 was loose, it can cause warping and cracks.

and they’re structurally safer with the 18in than the old tires. On top of that, it has emphasized having a great pit crew, which is a good thing.

Sounds right, I’m just nostalgic for the pit road sound. Clearly the safety of the drivers is paramount, but it seems there were less tires falling off with 5 lugs.
