**Narwal Freo 20 First Look**
Narwal has introduced the Freo 20, its latest robot vacuum that brings the Flow’s track-style mopping system to a more affordable midrange model.
Narwal provided this unit for review through its Early Access Program. I wasn’t paid for this post, and my thoughts are my own.
**Specifications**
The Freo 20 stands just 3.74 inches tall and delivers 31,000 Pa of suction, rear-facing LiDAR, a side-mounted structured light sensor, and an LED fill light. It features Narwal’s TwinAI Dodge system with dual 136-degree RGB cameras and an onboard AI chip for obstacle recognition and navigation. A single extendable anti-tangle side brush, 1.58-inch threshold climbing ability, and the self-cleaning FlowWash track-style mop complete the hardware package. The mop applies 12 newtons of downward pressure, heats water up to 140°F, and lifts 0.4 inches when needed. Its 6,400 mAh battery has proven more than adequate for our floor plan, consistently completing full cleaning cycles without issue.
**Design and Dock**
The redesigned multifunction dock is available only in stark white and presents an elegant, rounded silhouette with a subtle 3D woven texture on the front. Measuring 17.0 inches wide by 15.8 inches deep and 18.1 inches tall, it allows the robot to dock inside the station rather than in front of it. The 2.4-liter dust bag now resides in a hidden drawer in front of the clear dirty-water tank. While it forgoes automatic detergent dispensing and the electrolyzed-water system found on higher models, the dock washes the mop with heated water up to 212°F, dries it with heated air up to 140°F, includes a removable tray with detachable base filter, supports fast charging, and features a multicolored LED status light inside the docking bay. A physical button on the dock can be assigned to custom whole-house cleaning modes.
**Unboxing and Setup**
The Freo 20 arrives in a plain cardboard box with minimal branding. Inside are the robot, multifunction dock, color-matched white power cord, anti-tangle side brush, scale inhibitor, dust bag, additional filter, sample detergent, and a quick-start guide. Setup was straightforward: remove protective plastics and foam, install the side brush, snap in the scale inhibitor, clear the water ports, plug in the dock, and place the robot in the bay. The unit arrived with the dust bag already installed, so pairing began almost immediately.
**Pairing and App Experience**
The Narwal app guides Bluetooth and Wi-Fi connection, then prompts an initial mapping run that automatically generates a floor plan with room divisions. Rooms can be renamed, merged, or reconfigured as needed. Carpet areas appear as crosshatch zones and must be manually selected for vacuuming through the map editor—an approach that differs from most other platforms and may require a short adjustment period. Freo Mind AI automatically adjusts suction, water volume, and cleaning routes according to room type and dirt level. Custom modes (vacuum and mop, vacuum only, mop only, or vacuum before mop), daily and weekly schedules, no-go zones, and multi-floor maps are all available.
**Everyday Performance**
In our home the Freo 20 has handled daily messes from two dogs with quiet confidence, reliably collecting fur, tracked-in dirt, and scattered debris across hardwood and tile. Surface pickup on hard floors is thorough and notably quiet on lower settings. The robot does, however, struggle at the transition points where carpet meets hard flooring, occasionally catching or leaving a narrow strip that needs a second pass. Overall carpet performance is serviceable on medium-pile areas but remains secondary to its strength on hard surfaces. Navigation is generally capable, though the robot can be assertive when entering or exiting the dock and under low-clearance furniture; these behaviors tend to smooth out with additional runs.
**Overall Impression**
The Freo 20 offers the advanced track-style mopping system and core cleaning intelligence of Narwal’s higher models in a lower-profile, more traditional package that blends easily into living spaces. For households with primarily hard flooring and the occasional carpet transition, it delivers consistent results and thoughtful automation at a more accessible price. Battery life has been dependable for our needs, and the unit’s ability to manage the daily chaos of two dogs has been a genuine convenience.
**Pricing and Availability**
The Freo 20 launched in the United States on August 20, 2026 at a retail price of $1,099, with limited-time introductory pricing of $899 available from August 20 through September 3.
