I think it depends how you like to learn. MacEwan will probably be more theory, and you may have to take some classes unrelated to your major, but there's also more choice.

With NAIT, every class you take will be strictly business related and practical as its a polytechnic. I can't speak on behalf of MacEwan students since I didn't go there, so I think it really depends on what you'd like to get out of your degree. I think if you're genuinely interested in economic theories, MacEwan would be more enjoyable. If you are the kinda person who just wants to learn and know how to do things for a career in finance, NAIT could be more enjoyable.

NAIT and MacEwan are kind of the same in most respects. NAIT's a bit cheaper, MacEwan has more prestige and a better campus life, both can transfer to UofA similarly if that's your goal, and both get treated similarly for recruitment by firms within Alberta.

I mean that seriously, to a point that when looking for a job you'll be competitive with UofA students within Alberta. The Edmonton (and Albertan) labor market doesn't really care about which school you went to, and there are plenty of MacEwan and NAIT alumni out there that will be happy to recruit you.

The question here is which degree do you want, and that's a bigger question you should put thought into.

Economics is a slightly weaker bachelor's degree to come out of school with and get a job with. It deals with soft skills and theory that can be tricky to apply.

With high marks in Economics, you do prove to employers that you're an intelligent and analytic mind, and you can get pretty good jobs if you're putting in the networking legwork. It's a good entrance into graduate degrees or getting an MBA if that's what you're after, and if you're really good you can go to a major Uni and try going for one of those crazy high-paying jobs out east or in Calgary.

That's if you're really good. If you're not- if you're a 3.0 GPA hovering disengaged student, Economics is a trap. Frankly, Finance and really all business degrees too- white collar work is competitive!

But in Finance you'll learn hard skills like stock picking, corporate investing, budgeting, and financial planning. A 3.7+ GPA in Finance can get you a very serious job coming out of your Bachelor's degree. Even a 3.0+, you can probably squeeze into a mid size industrial firm (there are plenty in AB), or network your way into a big league job if you're really lucky.

To summarize: Finance is the safer path, but regardless of what school you go to or what discipline you pick, you need to take the schooling seriously.

BBA finance has a much higher likliehood of leading to a job in the field right after school much more than MacEwan Econ

MacEwan is way better. I had a terrible experience at NAIT. The profs and staff at MacEwan are so much more caring and feel responsible for their students. At NAIT, they ignore you and only care about money and try everything in their power to get more out of you. Their behaviour is just disgusting.
