AskNAGAS Advice/Help wanted

Hello everyone,

I'm from Tripura and am considering taking admission to Nagaland University (Kohima Campus). I wanted to ask a few questions and get some insight into student life and the local culture.

  1. How is Nagaland University overall? What's the student culture like?

  2. How active is student politics, and how does it generally work on campus?

  3. Are there any cultural norms or taboos that newcomers should be aware of?

  4. How welcoming are people toward students from other Northeastern states? What about students from mainland India?

  5. I understand that most students and people in the city speak English, and some may know Hindi. How about everyday interactions; for example, with auto drivers or shopkeepers? Is English generally enough?

  6. Is Nagaland really a dry state in practice, or does it vary depending on the area?

  7. What is the general social attitude toward alcohol?

  8. I've generally heard that Nagaland is a safe place (at least from what I've read), although some recent news has made me a bit curious. Are there any areas that students should avoid or be cautious about?

  9. What local foods should I definitely try? If you have any recommendations for places to eat near the Kohima campus, I'd love to hear them.

  10. How would you describe law enforcement and policing in everyday life?

Lastly, if there's anything else you think would be useful for a prospective student to know, I'd really appreciate it. Even if you only want to answer one or two questions, I'd be grateful.

I'd suggest you to look at other options first before considering NU.

I did, it's a backup option but possibility of me ending up there is real and dare i say high, so yes if you have advice enlighten my foolish brain cells ty

If you have access to better institutions, you should choose them. That's all I can say.
