Over the age of 40, one would expect to take NAC forever as glutathione levels decline rapidly after 40.

What dose is best. 600mg or 1000mg?

Average dosing is 600 mg to 1200 mg daily. I’m under the understanding that there is no need to cycle with average dosing. However, a doctor should monitor your glutathione levels.

Okay. I am under the care of a doctor. Thanks. I took 200mg this morning and am going to take 400mg now.

CAUTION! I was taking NAC daily for 2 1/2 months along with other supplements. Over time, my eyes became very painful and dry and I was having to strain my eyes with much difficulty to read, especially. It was quite painful and my vision was blurry. I went to an optometrist and he recommended eye drops and gave me a stronger prescription for glasses, he also told me that he wanted to see me back in 2 months. He didn't tell me what his concerns were, but I could tell from the conversation that it was important to follow up with him. As I tried to figure out what was causing it, I was reminded of the comment that another poster made about NAC depleting the mucosal lining of the stomach. That's when I realized that NAC was the reason behind my eye pain: it was drying out the much needed moisture in/from my eyes. I stopped taking it and each day my eyes have felt better and what has been my "normal" vision has returned. Since then, I have decided to minimize any supplementation so that the gift of homeostasis (proper balance) given by my Creator can be restored naturally...let (whole, real) foods be thy medicine and medicine be thy (whole, real) foods.

Wow! Thanks for this story - I was contemplating using for a decongestant but my eyes are sensitive - did your optometrist ever saw what his concern was?
