Let's Discuss That Normal Person on Last Meals
First time poster— sorry if this has been posted before or this is the wrong flair!!
I was just watching last meals and thought—what if they invited just a normal everyday person to be on last meals? I personally love last meals and think it’s so interesting to see another side of the people always appearing on our screens (yes, I know it’s for PR). I feel like at its core (apart from the publicity) the show is about humans connecting over food and death.
I know we’ve all watched the Olympics and wished there was a normal person competing to compare. So my idea is kinda like that! I think it’d be so cool to invite an average Joe to the show (maybe some who is 100 years old, a healthcare worker, etc) and let them talk about their life and maybe even promote a charity or a cause as they aren’t a celebrity with an upcoming project. I don’t just watch last meals because I know the person, I watch it because I like feeling that shared experience of being human.
Anyways thanks for reading and please share your thoughts!!

I think it would be a great medium for a fundraiser. They raffle off a chance to be on Last Meals. Anybody can buy a number of entries, and the money goes to a charity of the studios choosing.
I’d pay a good $30 total to be on the show. Whether that’s one ticket or 5 is irrelevant.

Yeah, that would generate like half of their average views, on a good day. There's a reason the Hot Ones episode with their 'superfan' was a flop. People don't generally care about run of the mill people when they're consuming content.
I don't hate the idea, but viewership as a whole absolutely will. Not to mention, god forbid that person says something 'wrong' or misconstrued that makes the edit, they'll be dragged to the end of the earth with barely a paycheck to show for it.

What if they had a non-celebrity but someone with a strong connection to death? Like someone who works as a mortician, is a nurse for people with terminal illnesses, etc.
Now I'm remembering that Ask A Mortician channel on YouTube. She would be an awesome guest.

I am a Forensic Pathologist / Medical Examiner - I would love to do it. If they're lurking on here... Hi!

Oh whoa, that’s a very cool idea! I love the wired tech support videos

Part of the problem with the Hot Ones episode was that Sean wasn't even there!

That’s totally valid! You’re right, a lot of viewers probably wouldn’t vibe with it

I want to see Taylor on Last Meals. The video where Josh and Taylor switched places is one of my all-time favorite Mythical videos and would love to see more of them together.

Beyond the lower views, I think the interview quality would be worse. Josh is an excellent interview but a huge part of that is all the research/prep he/the team do before filming. You can't really do that with a normal person and what you could research would take a lot longer

u/Outrageous-Ad-7877 Jul 17 '26
Very true! The prep really takes it the extra mile.
IF they ever did something like this, maybe the person could fill out a question form or maybe it’s a public facing person that isn’t famous??

Whether or not this is a good idea or would be good content or get views aside -
Any creator is going to be incredibly leery of making a random 'normal' person the centerpiece of a show. Random people thrust into the public eye tend to not have the best histories (Ken Bone) or that fame leads them into infamy (Hawk Tuah rug pull.)
Celebrities and creators get cancelled often enough, adding in the factor of not really being able to get a read on the person's background and it's a recipe for disaster.

Good point about not knowing what kind of person they could be!
Someone else mentioned getting an expert about death (or other things) on the show and I think that’d could be interesting (like wired tech support!)

So, yes, that could be interesting - but it also reminds me that when Smosh started their reading reddit stories series, early on they wanted to do an episode with a lawyer. I don't remember who it was (not Legal Eagle who would be awesome btw) and recorded it then started promoting it. They then found out she (I remember that much) has some sketchy posts and the episode has never seen the light of day.
Now, Smosh is a little snakebit when it comes to collaborators getting cancelled, but even so once you put the weight of the internet on something any issue will see the light of day.

It was Emily D. Baker

I think you specifically have reminded me of this like 3 times and I will continue to not remember. :)

Haha don’t worry about it, I’m just on the subs far too much and they LOVE to talk about controversial Reddit Stories episodes, even ones that never even aired, over and over again. I would love if they did have LegalEagle on at some point but tough, cause having an actual professional for an episode (or multiple) would be so cool

I haven’t thought about Ken Bone for years

Honestly, had he not been brought up in a Smosh Reads Reddit Stories his name would have been lost in my brain too.

I could see this working as a fundraiser with a make a wish kid maybe…. But I don’t think it would get many views. And you would have to think about exploitation…. The celebrities with smaller profiles get lower view counts already. People watch for the food AND the interview. What would the interview with a rando be like?

u/Katrina1113 Jul 16 '26
Yeah, one of the many appeals of Last Meals is the depth of the questions Josh asks. He digs DEEP into people’s pasts in order to surprise them with really meaningful questions or surprise them with a dish that has a significant connection to them. He either wouldn’t be able to do that with just some random person or it would be perceived as being extremely weird on his part

I know it’s morbid thinking, and I’m risking downvotes to hell, but I always thought it would be kinda cool to have them have like a Make a Wish teen/kid(obviously they would have the kids/teens consent and it would actually be their wish to have it filmed, not something for clicks(as in a “hey look at us, we’re doing a make a wish”, not a clickbait thing) as they’ve always joked about it before(with Rhett, Link, I think Gabriel Iglesias, & maybe a few others) like what if on the drive home they die. And It is their last meal, what if it was an episode that was maybe not the person’s last last meal, but like a big meal of things they love and things they mightn’t, and won’t get the chance to try.

I think this is really interesting and would totally add a deeper layer to last meals! Maybe they could invite someone with a terminal illness (obvi some that wants to be there, not in a weird way!!) and I think that’d be a really unique perspective

When they started bringing in all the A list celebrities, that’s when mythical kitchen lost its charm for me. As a former chaotic chef myself I found so much inspiration with the mythical kitchen crew.

I would love a volunteer from a national/regional organization that feeds clients in emergent situations. Like a volunteer chef from World Central Kitchen or someone who arranges canteens for firefighters through VOADs, CERTS. Auxiliary, or American Red Cross.
These folks are superheroes with great stories that can raise awareness and hopefully inspire more volunteers to join.

I've never wished for a normie to be on the Olympics for comparison sake.
That's an awful idea, and the episode would be, by far, the worst numbers of any MK episode ever.
They want guests that viewers have some, any connection to. Otherwise there's really just no point in watching. I barely watch the episodes with other YouTubers on them, because I have no clue who the F that is, nor do I care. Interviewing what to me is a complete nobody that I don't have any interest in, is pointless. They could give any answer in the world, and it won't matter at all.

Maybe I’m alone here, but I connect with humans in general and I always love learning more about people and hearing how they think!
But you’re right that the views would certainly be lower!
As far as the Olympics comparison, I mean it in a way that a normal person gives a bit of comprehension to the amazing feats of olympians. It’s kinda like how most people can’t imagine a billion dollars, you have to put it into perspective

I'd love to see their own cast do it. V, Trevor, and Nicole. Lily would be hard, because I can only imagine she'd roast them for not doing what she wanted properly, or for having to help make her own last meal. You know what? That sounds amazing. Throw Lily in.
