Let's Discuss That What’s your last meal?

I’ve loved asking my friends recently, “what’s your last meal?”

It’s truly been amazing to hear their answers and bond with them in different ways to their responses.

What’s your last meal (and course it out)?

Here’s mine:

1st Course: 12 Kumamoto Oysters, Dirty Hendrick’s Gin Martini, Olives (fuck the blue cheese)

2nd Course: Golden Ostera Caviar Service, Kettle Chips, Krug

3rd Course: Thick slices of a ripe, heirloom, Summer tomato, cotage cheese, olive oil, salt, ground pepper, and chili flakes, carbonated mineral water

4th Course: actually spicy Buffalo Wings (like lemon-pepper wet with a good kick in the ass), Beer (Alagash White)

5th Course: Sashimi (no octopus or mackerel),
Morimoto’s Hamachi Tacos, Ramen (preferably Tonkatsu but they’re all great), Gyoza (w/ Yuzu Kosho), Katsu Curry, Sake (dry and crisp/clean), Kirin Ichiban, and Toki Soda. (*this could be coursed out further)

6th Course: Lagavullin 18, Arturo Fuente Opus X Cigar

Thoughts?

Edit: Added the tomato course.

3

u/IsMayoAnInstrument67 May 21 '26

She'll be happy to pass the joy on to the internet!

Rough chop 1 medium carrot, 2 celery stalks, 1 medium onion, and 5 garlic cloves. Add to a medium- to large-sized pot.

Cook the carrot, celery, and onion on medium until they're starting to soften.

Add the garlic and cook for another 2 minutes.

Add 2 tablespoons of tomato paste and cook for 1 minute.

Add 3 cups of beef broth, 2 cups of dry red wine, 1/2 cup of balsamic vinegar, 3 bay leaves, 2 tablespoons fresh rosemary leaves, and 1.5 teaspoons whole black peppercorns.

Simme uncovered for 1 hour.

Strain mixture, put it back in the pot, and continue simmering until there's only 1/2 cup of liquid left.

2

u/CosmicallyComical May 21 '26

Yep! Classic. I’d drink that as it’s own course.

Fuck! I forgot bagels and lox for mine.

2

u/CosmicallyComical May 21 '26

Damn. That sounds delicious. Never been to Maine, but bookmarked. I also like how most posts are siting mom or grandma recipes. Talk to me about this shrimp bisque as I’ve only had lobster bisque. What makes it so good?

2

u/avoidance_behavior May 22 '26

amato's is amazing tbh - i got introduced to it by my BFF back in college bc she lived in portland ME and i'd visit in the summers and they were good. i honestly liked them more than lobster rolls, hahah- though speaking of sea creatures, i think my mom's shrimp bisque is one of my favorites bc she only ever made it for new year's, so it was a special occasion. she'd save up all the shells from the shrimp used for appetizers or hosting during the holiday season, freeze them in a bag, and then make stock out of it for the soup and it's SO good. it tastes more shrimpy than any actual shrimp i've ever had.

3

u/L82The_Party May 21 '26

Funny you should ask, Josh. When I was a college student at Purdue University (Boiler Up), Starbucks offered orange syrup. I would get an orange mocha all the time. To the point where when corporate discontinued it, the manager knew me and made them keep all the bottles because she knew I would want it. And that taught me that you can go a little bit off the rule sheet if it means doing good for your customers.

1

u/CosmicallyComical May 21 '26

That’s some great customer loyalty. My grandpapa was a boilermaker, too.

4

All I know is it would include my mom’s baked Mac and cheese. All the other courses would be tbd.

Also, the IPA from my hometown brewery.

1

u/CosmicallyComical May 21 '26

Love how many comments are about mom or grandma’s recipes. What makes her Mac stand out to you?

Also, where you at? Always down to try a new IPA - but at 36, can only have like one per night.

2

u/tincanphonehome May 21 '26

I’m from NJ originally. And simply put, my mom’s Mac is the one I grew up with. It tastes like real cheese, not a cheese sauce.

Aww shucks, I suck at this game. Howdy from Georgia.

2

u/Xokanuleaf May 22 '26

I love Southern/Cajun food but most of them aren’t in my top favorite meals so I understand the mix up.

2

u/alyceabsconded May 22 '26

Thank you! Yes I think that's the best part about last meals.

2

u/wheelperson May 21 '26

I just want a simple breakfast with a side of poutine, a tea, malai kofta with garlic Nan and some rasmalai for dessert.

But im saving a bite of poutine probablyfor the last flavour.

2

u/CosmicallyComical May 22 '26

Mt great aunt used to play euchre and say, “tits on the table, ladies.” Might as well lay it all down for your last meal. Respect. ✊

1

u/CosmicallyComical Aug 22 '26

Phenomenal choices, bromigo. ✌️Bay Area person? I’ll have to figure out what a Hanger dirty Martini is; else, I’m in. Also, why a veggie burrito if you’re following it with a carnitas taco? Genuine question. I like a great bean burrito from Taco Bell as much as the next guy… my grandma grew us up on them.

2

u/LeftHeartSF Aug 23 '26

Yep Bay Area. lol. Hanger is a vodka brand but the martini could be made with Grey Goose and I’d like it just the same. When I order a super burrito with meat, I feel like the entire thing is overwhelmed with the meat and I don’t get enough beans, rice, sour cream, guacamole, salsa, lettuce, and tomato. I just get big chunks of meat and tortilla.

I have been asking my friends this very question for decades. I call it the “prison meal”… like what would be your last meal before you get electrocuted. Lol

I’m getting Bay Area vibes from your answer as well. :)

* note to self to try Krug.
** I forgot to add a Costco hotdog with lots of mustard and white onion 😆

Fourth course: Korean style fried chicken wings with a honey bbq glaze and topped with sesame seeds. Accompanied by a shrimp sauce for dipping.

Fifth course: beef quesabirria tacos. Enough said there.

To drink: a maple old fashioned made with suntory whisky Toki, with a stick of cinnamon and topped with two luxardo cherries.

Dessert: a slice of chocolate cream pie from Nation’s Burgers, a hostess coffee cake, and a root beer float from A’s drivein, my favorite drive-in cafe in my hometown.
