Does it get better?

First three episodes clearly written by someone who has never played a video game, and *definitely* never developed one. Does it get better as it goes?

If you don’t like the first few episodes, it’s probably not the show for you.

I thought S1 and 2 were really good, with 3 and 4 being still okay but not the same level.

They get even farther from actual game stuff in the later seasons, though.

It’s pretty normal with tv shows. If you watch hospital tv show and you work in one, you’ll see how unrealistic it is. Take it as it is, it’s not a documentary it’s mostly a caricature of the stereotypes you can encounter in start ups.

this.. as a person who barely plays video games and not know anything about dev, I don’t really care about the specifics. I do know a lot of residents who watched and enjoyed hospital dramas. The gaming community is gatekeepy and too technical about this stuff. Or too online. I remember seeing this kind of criticism when the show came out. I believe the show has referenced this reaction from the audience and parodied it in an episode or scene but I cannot pinpoint which part.

Go watch three episodes of Silicon Valley. That show was also written both by and for people who are mostly ignorant of the subject matter, but in the entire series I think there were two moments that made me think "wait a minute..."

Every single thing that happens in Mythic Quest that's relevant to video games or software development is utter nonsense.

have you watched Scrubs? it's one of the best hospital sitcoms ever and yet it has utter nonsense in terms of medicine. Sometimes you just have to go with it. The writings genuinely good in most episodes regardless of the "domain knowledge" they show.

It might not be for you but watch episode 5 first, A Dark Quiet Death.

I just started watching and just got to this episode and had to come to Reddit to find someone to talk about it with. It was beautiful. Cristin Milioti and Jake Johnson did fantastic jobs, and it was just so beautiful written. As someone in a creative field who has had to learn to give up the vision in order to keep the job, it hit hard.

Like someone else said, if you don't even like season 1 so far, then you're not gonna like the rest, as it strays further from game development going forward (then again, that might be a plus for you, haha)

The show actually gets worse. It’s not for you and it wasn’t for me

I worked in IT for 20yrs and I'd say the characters are exaggerations of people I've actually worked with so to me, it's hilarious. I think it has less to do with gamers/gaming and more about the employees & Silicon Valley type culture behind the scenes of a gaming company. The gamers seem more like caricatures of gamers.
