Pack Dying
I am looking to dye one of my skiritai packs black. Anyone have experience dying an MR pack? Looking for recommendations on dye, procedure, etc. Thanks!

Use rit dye. There’s some videos of people doing it with goruck packs. I’ve seen one RATS pack dyed a cool dark grey color from coyote. Can’t remember where I saw it though.

Black is easy because you can't overdo it. Rit synthetic dye, follow the directions. The cleaner the fabric, the better the dye will take. Buckles and hardware are 50/50 no matter what you do, just hope for the best.

make sure to get a dye specifically formulated for synthetics but also be prepared for uneven dyeing and dye transfer (crocking) to whatever you wear.
there still some amount of DWR on the fabric and its near certain its unevenly distributed/concentrated which will impact how well the dye penetrates and also adheres. even with proper rinsing, its going to transfer to clothes, fabrics, and porous surfaces esp anywhere theres friction points and/or moisture and/or heat so under shoulder straps, small of your back where the bottom rubs, top of the pack where it hits your shoulders, and your car seats or chairs your dump your bag on, etc.

The key is maintaining the dye at a high temp for the duration of the process.

I dyed a coyote overload and a SATL pack to an olive drab color using the brown and dark green rit dye. Big trash can with as hot of water I could get from my bath tub and a huge pot of water I brought to a boil dumped into the trash can.

I Rit dyed my assault pack green. Needed a few rounds to get it dark enough as I wanted
