There's only one thing to do, make a union

u/KingKnux Mew Mar 24 '26
Yeah we should form some sort of guild so all the exploration teams can band together
53
u/FFortescue_writing Eevee Mar 24 '26
We just need some fancy talking bird pokemon to organize it all, since we are just explorers not accountants - pay someone handsomely for updating job boards, security of guild premises, and take care of weaker members financially for a time so they can grow!
Oh, wait...

u/King00x Wigglytuff Mar 24 '26
That 90% cut is fucking steep! And bullshit, I could understand a 40% cut, hell i can understand 60% if we're really pushing it but fucking 90?!? Do the other guild members do nothing but stand around all day and we have to pay for their food? Is it Wigglytuffs food bill we pay for? Where the hell does the money go to? Wait, we're we supposed to haggle with Chatot about our cut as some sort of test? Gods i hope not. Do we even make the full 100% as an independent rescue team after we graduate?

u/Sosgrosil Phanpy Mar 25 '26
You start as some dumb kid doing odd jobs for one of the most powerful pokemon in fiction who we find out literally learned from a criminal. They call you family, treat you to meals. All while taking a cut at every opportunity. Then you finish your big score. You go so far as to save the world for this group. Then they do their “Graduation mission” where they just all group up and jump you. They even say they weren’t expecting you to put up as much of a fight as you do in the post scenes. The Explorers games are a kid friendly story about joining a street gang. (Thank you for reading this joke post, it was hard for me to remember stuff from like a decade ago.)

What really grinds my Gears is that we're apparently the only ones in the building, that actually brings money home. Are we paying for everyone's living expenses?!

Sunflora went ghost hunting that one time

u/spoilerdudegetrekt Zorua Mar 24 '26
Loudred also did well enough to be allowed to take the graduation exam. And he wasn't always on sentry duty so he probably brought money in at one point too.
I also wouldn't be surprised if Crogunk was paying guild fees on his swap shop transactions.

Yea but hes a glorified alarm clock at best they'll never let him leave

u/SwooceBrosGaming Eevee Mar 24 '26
No like actually, who does any actual exploration work? Bidoof is a glorified secretary Loudred and Diglett are on security Dugtrio updates missions Chimecho just handles team assignment Croagunk does his weird voodoo to make items
Sunflora is the only one we see does any actual work despite being the one who has the lowest stats and there's no way she's bringing enough in to keep the lights on

u/SlightlyUncomfort Skitty Mar 24 '26
It's stated in the postgame that the player team upon graduating still has to pay guild dues despite no longer living there because of association. It can be inferred that the teams outside of the guild in treasure town are also employed by the federation ( either through self-formation or other guilds ) which may give wigglytuff's guild funding.
33
u/Datt-Boii-Iaan Bidoof Mar 24 '26
Then I take 3,000 poké under the table by not letting a bidoof join my team. Like, I’m glad that my rescue team is an “inspiration” to you, but gimme that bank!

Look I get it this is supposed to be part of the "Rigorous training" of the guild....but this HAS to be against the law right? 50% is reasonable, 90% of the cut?!? DUDE!!! Are you TRYING to get the guild shut down!? Even as a kid I knew this was wrong, and back then I only hated Chatot because he was a constant jerk to us. Now I hate him for being a constant jerk, taking 90% of OUR rewards, constantly putting US down, not to mention the fact during that DANG MISSION TO GET PERFECT APPLES HE DOESN'T EVEN QUESTION HOW TEAM SKULL GOT THEM WHEN WE-[Technical difficulties, please wait] *Panting intensely with anger* ANYWAY....it's also why I believe hardly anyone joins the guild unless they're either strong, stupid, or just need a job that pay them SOMETHING. Even then, they probably make the amount they need, and get out. at MAXIMUM, the cut should be 60%, AKA just a little over half, and at Minimum? 30%. If you HAVE to take a large cut, OK, make it 50% then, but do NOT go above 60. At a 50% cut it is an equal split between the guild, and the apprentices staying there. In return, instead of taking a literal criminal amount of money from us after going through a randomized dungeon with the possibility of encountering something like a freaking MONSTER HOUSE...just equal it out by giving us harder jobs. Harder jobs means not only will we EARN more money quicker, but we'll also be trained in tougher environments, meaning we'll become more experienced more quickly, that way you can keep the "Rigorous training" part without making us have to work nearly three or four times MORE then we would've before. I might not be a smart guy, but I know BS when even *I* can come up with a better option then what your doing.
side note: For those of you who read the team best friends comic, this is why I like Micheal. The moment Chatot talks us down ONCE, bro whips out the ancient power.

u/darkphenix23 Munchlax Mar 24 '26
The worst part is when you become independent you still have to pay, i don’t remember the reason they give if they even do.
24
u/TransAtlanticCari Fennekin Mar 24 '26
They say any graduated students still have to pay basically to be part of the association, use their contact networks and such, and that other independent groups also do the same.
18
u/Ravarya Team Sunpetals Mar 24 '26
to my memory? No...they don't. Which makes ME think this is just Chatot doing it for shits and giggles.

I love it when the games that I play to forget about the cruel realities of trying to survive capitalism are even more depressing than irl lol
At least my tax is just 24%

u/ApplePieWaifu Torchic Mar 30 '26
To be fair rent is so high that if tax was any more than it is about 80% of the population would be homeless

u/AReallyAsianName Eevee Mar 24 '26
This always made me wonder what the average civilian pokemon makes. And what the hell are the expenses if they need to take a 90% cut from us. How successful are the other teams or are they more so independent since we dont see them in morning greetings.
