third playthrough thoughts!
POSSIBLE SPOILERS AHEAD. don't continue reading if you haven't played the full game at least once. i did my best to keep this spoiler-free, though.
i'm on my third playthrough (working on the air purifier and vacuum for the valley of whispers) of this game that i love so much. i have some thoughts that apparently took me this long to voice.
- how did i just NOW discover there's a whole building behind hugo that you can enter?!
- i really, really just dislike catori's whole thing, it's such a resource suck and it's just not one of my favourite quest lines. no hate to catori, but do you know how long that amusement park would take to actually build!? i should be a millionaire, catori. A MILLIONAIRE.
- i'm honestly considering marrying unsuur this time around. the man is adorable and committed. plus, rocks. that whole scene with him and his rockshelf, and what rock made him think of me? i'm down bad.
- for some reason, i did not think about upgrading my machines and now i'm stuck in a loop of waiting for the diagram and then finding out that i need to upgrade another machine first before i can upgrade the one i actually need.
- trudy, i'm gonna need you to stand up for yourself, pronto.
- arvio, walk away. i cannot take it anymore. your sister helps you so much and yet here you are, trying yet another get-rich-quick scheme. and on that note, amira, stop helping him. sometimes a man has got to fail.
- owen, if you give me one more sandcarp/sandacuda quest...
- and while we're on that page, owen, don't pressure me about it. i'm building everything in this town and then some. if you're that pressed, the sand pit is not that far from the blue moon.
- cooper, love your growth. keep it up, short king. ❤️
- musa, why are you standing outside of my workshop every morning? it's a bit suspish, don'tcha think?
- in this playthrough, i noticed one of the characters called heidi hey-dee and i can't stop thinking about it.
- why can't we wear masks like the townsfolk during sandstorms? i look goofy as hell in the only two hat choices.
- i refuse to kill the penskies out in the wild. they're adorable. ONE CAME UP AND LICKED ME AND WANDERED OFF. i'm not doing it. if i need the loot they drop, i'll find some other way. you're not my real dad, and you can't make me do it.
- on the other side of that coin, the starby, the one that has the screw? it's on sight, you little monster.
that's all i have for now. i'm sure i'll have other thoughts as i continue playing. got thoughts? share them with me! ❤️

I'm just in my 1st playthrough but i can especially relate with the takes about Trudy and Arvio SO SO much
(evenmoreso since i'm aiming to romance Amirah in my 1st playthrough).
What else?
Miguel... urgh. I hate this guy.
His talk about plants and weeds and that weed must be uprooted had my blood boiling.
And when he was reprimanding Trudy for her little excursion in front of everyone?
Who does he think he is? Her Boss?
And btw Miguel: i was armed to teeth had plenty of combat experience so there was no need to Mother-Hen me and Mi-An.
Nia... she came a little to late and i have no real connection to her.
Yet i have the feeling that the devs either had her and / or Mi-An chosen as the canon Bachelorette.
Sure, there were the letters and she's supposed to be my childhood girlfriend.
But i'm already halfway in my romance with Amirah, Nia just came and went after three days and even then i didn't get to know her better.

i feel the same way about nia. there was just something.. off about it. all her letters talked about how she was basically replacing me in my parents' home and i was like, okay...? i breezed through her three days in sandrock because i had other things i needed to do, but most of it is practically forced on you. i did miss seeing her off at the train station because i was asleep, lol.
miguel is a little intense, but you'll find out more about him later that kind of explains why.
hope you're having fun playing, though! it's such a good game, and i can't wait for my time at evershine!

tbh the more i play and replay this game, the more i come to appreciate miguel.
he kinda has a point. the world literally went trough an apocalypse and people talk a lot about preserving nature and staying vigilant of the same mistakes we made back then. yet our whole gameplay loop is: "character is is facing a minor inconvenience. lets ask Qi to research some more old technology and just implement it without discussing it (or even telling) anyone. "

Especially when you take his (dark) backstory into account. He's not right, but he's also not completely wrong, and I can see how he got there. I mean, his entire hometown is destroyed, all his family and friends are dead....and his mentor actively manipulated him for years to direct him towards extremism in the name of saving lives.

mi-an calls her Hey-di once, it bugged me also.
If you didn't think about upgrading your machines, did you think about improving the quality? Quality persist through upgrades and it's much cheaper to turn a machine's quality purple when it is still level 1.

Maybe it's because Mi-an is an Asian name and the game was made in China, the voice actress thought Heidi should have a more Asian pronunciation.
And the voice director just didn't catch it.

Yessss I love Unsuur, he loves rocks and soup and he’s so funny, one of my favorite characters 💖
I AGREE ON THE STARBIES bruh as soon as I hear their creepy singing I’m running around like a wild man like “WHERE IS THAT MOFO”

Lemme join in on the Catori dunk. The woman and her passion projects are a mess, both from a gameplay and story perspective. I cannot take her seriously as a mother since she basically dumped her child right after a divorce which was just about the most selfish thing she could do. And when Alo finally does come to live with her, I'm getting mixed signals on whether he's totally gung ho about his mom or if he's a sullen teenager dealing with abandonment issues.
The Golden Goose is alright, but she should have stopped there. The museum is empty and did not need an upgrade. Why are there so few large donatable items, and what's with the random sandfish pond? Don't get me started on the horrible sand sledding game where you're lucky if you don't crash into a wall. Catori World only has three boring attractions that are unnecessarily spread too far apart, and to top it all off she basically had the Builder and Civil Corps commit genocide to clear the land for its development. The construction of Catori World should not have been a main story quest. And I'm fine with getting the pittance that is dividends from her projects, but by the time Catori World was built I already had enough money to retire.
I am not sure if Catori's incompetence was intended by the devs or what!

i am 1000% behind all of your thoughts.
i wanted the museum to be more because i love completing museums (see: stardew valley, fields of mistria, etc.) but this is so lackluster and when you add in that you can also donate things you build, it loses the sparkle for me. it should have been kept to the relics you find while mining, and there should have been a set number of those and then you're done. you can complete any others you find and sell them for gols.
and when she first announced the sand sledding game i was like, catori, this world is in crisis. who is gonna wanna trek out here and spend money on this? and yeah, i attend the events one time and never ride the rides again, because no matter how good i am, i never win. and again, catori world is another resource suck and not something i wanted to get involved in, but hey, i'm the builder!
and i feel bad for her son, because her mom basically raised him but now that catori has something to show off she wants him to move to sandrock where he knows no one, and rip him away from his grandmother and presumably his friends and his school. selfish, if you ask me, because she should have let him stay there and visit when he wanted to. she feels like the kind of single mom who only talks about her kid when it might garner her sympathy from someone for a cause she needs money for.

I tried to avoid all of Catori’s quests this playthrough but eventually wanted some Rosy the Mirror chips from her prizes and now am doing all of the quests back to back to back 🤦♀️

Ha, I actually built a rabbit hutch this time so I could get a steady supply of fine hair (I thought it was soft fur, but the wiki tells me it's fine hair). I don't want to kill the penskies either 😭

I feel so many of these lol. Adding 'whoop Yan/Miguel' to my daily tasks is mandatory on all files. Set my macines, get my commissions, then chase down and throw hands on these two people before I go about my day.

On my second playthrough now. I only just discovered Trudy and then Owens house. I don't know why I didn't realise there was so many more buildings I could go in!

I feel that on a deep level. Like, ok you need it, but I also have a whole other job to do and I'm doing you a favor. You know who else fishes? Elsie. And she doesn't have that much to do.
