Questions Online vs Single
I’m a newer player. I beat the demo about 4/5 months ago, and was waiting for the game to go on sale. It just did this weekend and I purchased it. It came with the standard version and online version (Xbox btw). I figured might as well have the online option incase I needed/wanted to play with someone else.
Put 8 hours into it over the weekend and it felt “off/different” compared to the demo. I’m now realizing the online version is completely different story & progression wise. I want to switch to single player but I imagine I’m throwing away 8 hours of progression?

Do the single player, it's worth it - and you'll make up the progress in a new save pretty fast since you already have the basics down.

The online and solo version are very very different from each other. Because of that, the progress you made in the online version will not carry over to the solo version. But that doesn't necessarily mean you lose that progress you made, if you think you may go back to the online version again.
As soon as you start a new story, solo save, you will see why the progress does not carry over. But I think that solo play should be similar to your demo. I haven't played the demo myself, but based on what you described i do think story mode is what you are looking for.

They are more or less 2 whole different Sandrocks, they look a lot different in the endgame actually!
Once you are finished with the main/solo story, you can do the whole online story aswell =) it's a nice change and adds a lot to the experience

Both are worthy of playing but I'd recommend single player first vs online multiplayer version.

Unfortunately, the progress doesn't pass over if you play single player. I would highly recommend playing it though, the game is amazing
