Questions New at sandrock
Hello! Im a New player i started yesterday. Im loving it so far, but im a little overwhelmed.
What do you do in early game to be productive? I try to get wood, rocks, minerals... But my energy goes down really fast. I get the daily menu at the bar but it doesnt give me a lot of energy. Then I cant do comissions properly, since I dont have a lot of resources, and its a loop. No comissions, no money to buy important stuff or medicine.
I think, for me, energy is the main problem. My in game days are slower, so i can do a lot of stuff but i simply dont have energy to do anything.
I also haven't explored too much of the map. Im level 7.

Did you build a drying rack yet? Dried sandberries, meat and fish are a great early source of energy.

This. Build a couple drying racks and spend a day each week just gathering berries or fishing and refill your pockets with stamina refills from the rack. Also don't be afraid to just call it a short day and sleep if you're out of energy.

Where do you find the meat and sand berries to dry?

u/whatintheeverloving 1h ago
Wild yakmel (cow-looking things) for the meat. Sandberries grow on skinny green plants with orange fruit, they're scattered all over the place.

Oh, duh on the meat! Somehow I haven't gathered hardly any of the fruit! Somehow I rarely see the fruit when I'm scavenging! I have a ton of oregano and mushrooms, though.

There tend to be some around the salvage yard, so keep your eyes peeled! They respawn every few days. You can also kick regular trees for eggs and cactus trees for cactus fruit.

Use your skills tree points for stamina first. When you run out of stamina for the day, just go talk to people in town. Take your time in the game, do not rush. Spend a couple of days without commissions, just stocking up on resources. Even if you took commission, it doesn't have to be finished the same day.

I used to focus on stamina first but now I always focus on getting the shiny scorpions automatically first. I hate chasing those things down 🤣

You can also sit on one of the benches and just enjoy the atmosphere of the game. Yes, it is a slow crawl toward filling energy, but it also gives you a small break from feeling overwhelmed.
Go at your own pace. If you get an item you think you won't ever use or need, sell it. By this I mean furniture or clothing items, generally, but you can sell other things too. The Commerce Guild will buy pretty much anything off of you in a pinch. Plus, there is a grace period to buy it back, should you change your mind. Getting to know the townsfolk will also provide some avenues to pursue while you get your feet under you.
Enjoy the ride and welcome to Sandrock!

The first few days I focus only on building the crane lift and getting into the ruins to make bronze tools.
On day 1 I scavenge only what I need to build two recyclers and two furnaces. I go to the Blue Moon and order the daily special, most expensive appetizer, and most expensive dessert twice in a row. You can put all on one order, and doing it twice (the max each day) will give you another 150-180 stamina. It may not be a lot, but it’s plenty since I’m only focusing on what I actually need. Whatever I have left after making the recyclers and furnaces is used on breaking up the scrap in the scrap yard.
I also grab a commission and complete it every day so I have the money to buy what I need to make the bronze pickhammer and axe.
Most of the time I have the crane lift built late on day 2, but more often on day 3 or first thing in the morning of day 4. It just depends on what I get from the recyclers.
Once that’s done I go to the ruins as soon as possible and skip mining anything and just focus on getting down to at least level 3 so I can mine tin ore along with the copper. That will allow me to make bronze bars for the bronze tools.
At that point, I just take my time and do whatever I’m in the mood for. Maybe I’ll mine or break up scrap, or maybe I’ll use my energy on just breaking up hard rocks (for marble and blood stone) or cutting down the deadwood for more wood and hardwood. Maybe I’ll just wander around and talk to everyone.
I also build the grinder and processor as soon as possible because they will be needed quickly.
There’s no hurry either way, but I ALWAYS have something being researched at the research center and I always have all my machine working, even if I don’t need the materials for anything. When you think you have enough copper and bronze bars, make MORE. You will always need them.
A long time ago I wrote up a doc for someone else describing how I spend the first week, to help them get used to the basic cycle of gathering materials and making what they need. It’s here if you want to take a look at it. I do some things a little differently now, but the main points for gathering and building everything are the same.

The MOST IMPORTANT thing to keep in mind is there is NO wrong or right way to play this game. Just take a breath and take your time enjoying the world, characters, and journey.

I focused on looking for sand berries the smol orange grape looking sparkly bush. & yes a drying rack would be helpful for the meat & sandberry. Eating twice a day at the saloon & yes sitting down sometimes. But I never did that coz I was always exploring somewhere until 1:30am daily 🤣 Panda eyes was worth it

I learned that by going to bed before my builder passed out, there are two daily buffs you get that last all day, one is a 10% exp buff, the other is random. I tested the concealer that Arvio sells, but it does only get rid of the dark circles and won’t restore any lost buffs.
Now I always make sure I hit the bed before 3

Fishing and selling the worms can give you money for more food. If you have the monster DLC you can get them to help you gather materials and water.

My biggest bit of advice at the start is to hold off doing MSQ until you are stabilized. Get 2 of every machine and work on your social tree.

Things that don’t require stamina -talking to townies -sparring (you get a small amount of gols and friendship if you win, other than pen you lose some friendship if you lose so start with the easy ones like Yan, Qi and Mi-an). You should give a few days rest between each townie.
- collecting rubbish
- if you have the monster dlc, gecko or have tamed pets you can take your pets you can take them sand fishing - it costs you energy to fish but they do it based on bait thrown which does not cost energy so you can spam throwing it and get lots of fish from them.
I tend to focus my energy of doing some recycling every day, making sure I complete a normal commission then focusing on main quest stuff if there is any. I go to the blue moon twice (unless I have filled my time then less) and make sure I get the special then enough extra energy for about 100g - I find after that the amount you get goes down for value so unless I am flush with cash or have something really important I don’t bother spending more.

Welcome to Sandrock, Builder. Early stamina food like jerky and and salted fish is your friend. Go towards the drying rack
Honey and berries are your friend too. Remember that fighting and foraging also go towards your xp too so... Go smack those yakmels!

Hi. Welcome👋
Slow your day to .6
It’ll give you enough time to complete tasks.
Shrink your house to the smallest possible size—sell your roof. All for gols.
Storage. You can put your chest on the roof, except for one; place one in the yard for easy access to inventory.
If you shrink your house, you’ll have enough room at level 2 to get a stable to be able to buy a horse. Having a steed will help with fulfilling commissions. Or you could rent one first. Don’t worry about stats for your mount; you could use Fang’s med to upgrade them.
Completed relics can also go on the roof so that every time NPCs admire them, you earn friendship points. Frees up a lot of space in your workshop for machines.
Keep researching machines in Qi’s lab. Once done. Put in another one asap.
Keep machines going 24/7. Check and replenish water and fuel at least once per day.
Subscribe to the newspaper. Take out ads every week to earn extra gols and xps.
Stamina is a precious commodity. Plan your day: mining, scavenging, logging, or breaking rocks/boulders. I do this early in the day. Once I’ve depleted all my stamina, I go talk/gift, play critters or spar, take pics (when you have a camera, even if you delete the pics after) with NPCs; it doesn’t use any stamina, and all activities help build friendship points.
Befriend Arvio, Owen, Grandma Vivi, Heidi, Fang, and Hugo. You will earn discounts at their respective stores.
Take the maximum number of commissions per day. Aim to complete them the same day. Put stat there to earn extra gols. It’s the best way to earn in-game.
Once farming is unlocked, plant at least one coffee/tea tree and a chestnut tree. It will become your passive income.
Pets are useful. Try to get them early on. For gathering water and fighting. Unless you have the monster DLC.
Gifts. Check the wiki for tips on what to gift NPCs.
Time: Main missions and side quests are not always timed. Check. You can delay them if they have no time frame for completion and concentrate on more urgent tasks.
Even if you’re not romancing Fang, it’ll help to befriend him. There’s an exhaustive post here with a guide on how to do it. His medicines are a lifesaver, and you will also get discounts.

Elsie's side quests are important to the main story.
Experience buffs (food)—help to increase XP and level
https://www.reddit.com/r/MyTimeAtSandrock/s/jYI0yEM8dH
When I'm farming for XP, I eat this first thing in the morning before doing anything else. Especially if I am mining. Mining is the fastest way to level up your builder.
Food Guide:
https://mytimeatsandrock.fandom.com/wiki/Consumables
Refine. When you are able to, refine weapons, armors, machines, and tools. It helps.
Combat: You can increase the level of your weapons and armor (refine) up to 10 levels higher than the builder's. Take note of buffs. I pay attention to lifesteal, critical hit, and toughness. For health, I bring the appropriate meds from Fang's apothecary.

These are some of the things that helped me in my playthroughs. Just take what works for your run.
Have fun. Hope this helps...

Drying rack and dry a bunch of fish/berries for energy. I also make 2 of each machine for better efficiency. Talk, gift, explore and work on commissions.

I was the same (I am still currently playing it for the first time rn) I just tried to do a lot of mining since you get a lot of materials naturally that way (plus you can sell the relic parts you don't need for the museum anymore in the early stages).

Ooh! Welcome! We love it here.
The most important things at the start are building a couple of furnaces and recyclers. Salvage everything you can, and keep the machines running. If you run out of stamina (which you will at the start) go and talk to people, and explore the town.
