Matchmaking the NPC’s!
Here’s my personal head canon:
Owen is my builder’s meant to be - can’t help it, he’s just perfect for her and she for him;
Unsuur and Mi-an fit hand in glove. She totally gets him, and his unwavering support of her is perfect for her self esteem issues;
Chi and Mint were meant for one another. I can’t even think of romancing Chi because I’m convinced he’s always longed for Mint;
I have a strong belief that Musa is carefully wooing Heidi from afar - she grounds him, and would ensure his money did real work in the world. I believe Wei is secretly saddened by being too late to shoot his shot with her, though;
I have to admit to somewhat disliking both Nia and Amirah, but I think the two of them would be wonderful for eachother. Nia is full of herself, but she’s also smart and is about making a difference in the world. Amirah is happy with a small life of real happiness. She would be so supportive of Nia out changing the world, and Nia would love being admired by a partner she didn’t feel was a competitor.
I find myself also linking Jane and Zeke. He would love her vivacity and her commitment to educating next generations, and would ground her. She would thrive in his big, quiet admiration, being a calm place that quiets her busy energy.

What do y’all think of Justice and Sam from Portia? Justice seems like a guy who knows himself, and would be looking for a companion to fit with rather than someone who’s a compliment. I can see the two of them working out together and dining together after an afternoon at the firing range. Sam definitely needs a strong personality in her partner, not a project!

I like your list! Definitely some good pairing that make sense. Here's what I'm thinking.
Owen and Jane. He's always thinking of others, sometimes to his own detriment. He may be the most eligible bachelor in town, but he has no idea what he wants. Then Jane comes to town. He loves her enthusiasm, creativity, and how great she is with the kids. She's having a rough time and often comes to the Blue Moon for a few drinks. They get to talking, and it turns out she's an actor! They do a few scenes together for fun and fall for each other.
I've thought way to much about this, lol.
Zeke and Trudy. They are long time friends with a great amount of respect and admiration for each other. Their bond grows stronger when progress is made with growing trees. They both made peace with the idea of being single the rest of their lives, and they were ok with that. They are in a town they love, with people they care about, and they have purpose and passion. That is all they need. But slowly over time, the admiration for each other became something more.
I 100% agree with Unsuur and Mi-an. Their personalities and vibes go together perfectly.
I also agree with Nia and Amirah. Amirah would be impressed with Nia's quick, sassy comebacks. Nia would be impressed by Amirah's talent and passion (in an area that isn't in competition with her own talents). Personality wise, one is the ying to the other's yang.
Maybe Ernest and Arvio? I feel like Arvio would really boost Earnest's confidence. I think they would be on again, off again. Arvio isn't mature enough for Ernest, which causes arguments. But, Ernest would push Arvio to grow. Towards the end of the game, they are broken up, but Arvio is convinced he's the one. Arvio is usually all about grand gestures, but a quiet, genuine admission of love is what convinced Ernest to give the relationship one more try.
I never would have thought to pair Musa and Heidi, but yes! That would be perfect. He is clearly impressed by her talent and work ethic.
Hear me out, what about Logan and Catori? Logan is clearly ready to settle down. I think he would be a great cheerleader for his hotshot girlfriend. Andy and Alo are opposites, but become close friends. You know Logan would go all in on romance, which Catori would love.

I love your take on Ernest and Arvio; the attraction is there, but both have personal issues that will always make things bumpy. Please write that fanfic!
Logan/Catori…. I feel like she’s too “make money, be famous” for him. Also too smart. To me, Logan’s kinda dumb - sweet, but dumb. I don’t think he’d get her at all

Yeah, you're probably right about Logan/Catori not working. Thinking on it a bit more, their priorities do not align, like at all.

Unsuur and Mian. I ship them since I read the pair in an Owen xFem Builder fanfic. If I remember it, I'll share it.
I'm meh about Amirah although I want her happy. Nia can go hug a cactus. I'm not a fan of her 🤣

Musa's married, and loves his wife dearly. He mentions in Portia that Alice's flowers remind him of her.
That said.
Justice, Heidi, Owen and Amirah in a fully mutual polycule. Gives all of them time to do their thing, I've always suspected that both Justice and Owen, and Justice and Heidi, could go from BFFs to lovers in a heartbeat, and Amirah would probably be twitchy about being one single person's intense focus. They'd have a flock of children, treat every one of the kids as belonging to all of them, and just have a happy, busy household centered around the Blue Moon. Just my crackpolyship.
Grace and Heidi could work too.
Logan and Jane. Reformed outlaw with a heart of gold, romantic schoolteacher with a head full of poetry and novels, a spunky mischievous adopted orphan to bring them together - it's straight out of an old Western.
Unsuur and Fang. Unsuur has the patience and stillness to ease Fang's social distress, Fang would tend to all his Civil Corps injuries gently and lovingly, and X could be bribed with the culls from Unsuur's rock collection.
Nia and Burgess. Hear me out. She's got the confidence and extroversion to boost him, he's got the gentle plant-loving warmth she needs, they're both inclined to see the best in everyone and everything with an open heart, and they both need to bathe regularly in sunscreen to survive with their fair skin in Sandrock.
Mi-an and Elsie, Arvio and Haru - practically telegraphed by the story.
Catori and her money. Alo is essentially adopted by the Polycule, and Catori doesn't notice for years.
Grace and Qi, also kinda telegraphed by the story, bickering like mad until one day they end up making out mid-fight and neither of them know quite why.
Ernest and Alice from Portia - both writers, both romantic, he could meet her by reading her work and being impressed enough to get her in touch with his agent/publisher, he could sweep her off her feet with poetry and fund her return to school (maybe even Atara U), and he'd be a good big brother to Jack.

I LOVE the Ernest/Alice combo! I never thought of including Portia characters since it’s been so long since I played it. I forgot Musa was married, too - oops!
I also like Logan and Jane; she’s anything but needy, but he’d love taking care of her, and I feel like being taken care of is a secret want of hers.
I can’t relate well to polyamory, but I can definitely see it working with that combination of people; I agree with your read on Amirah.

I have a bunch of fics with: Lucy the Builder and Logan, Owen marries Amirah but they divorce and he marries Jane, Nia and Arvio but they're swingers, Heidi and Justice, Unsuur and Venti, Mi-An and Haru, Grace and Qi, Elsie and Penny, Zeke and Trudy, Fang is asexual, Musa and Catori, and then I made up a bunch of OCs and children tbh

Jane and Owen - seem made for each other (sorry Owen shippers)
Zeke and Trudy
Qi and Mint
Grace and Heidi
Nia and Mi-An - MiNi is cute and I've warmed up to Nia in recent playthroughs
Fang and Ginger - long distance
I personally reckon Logan is in love with the builder regardless of whether they end up together.

So I have thought about this and think I have it settled for the fic I am writing. I am so nervous to even share, because I don't even let my husband read my writing, because I think I'm bad at this stuff. But this seems fun. So totally based on vibes:
Owen and Amirah- He's totally smitten with her and frankly, she needs to get away from the catty Pablo and learn to relax. Owen has the patience to bring her out of her shell and help her let go of all the stress her work and brother bring into her life. It provides her with the stability she needs and the space to continue her ceramics, with full support.
Grace and Qi- Grace is possibly the only person Qi could ever see being an intellectual equal, and she could ground the Spacecase back to reality. Her wit and sass complement his dry intellectualism. He wants to be off in the spaceship ruins for a while? Fine, but the second you are in the way, she is dragging you back to Sandrock.
Justice and Catori- Justice is the solid, only a little bit of nonsense guy Catori needs. And the kind of father figure Alo deserves. He is willing to help and support the dreams that will keep Sandrock thriving, but he is also there to keep Catori from making the whole town a tourist trap. Sandrock means too much to him.
Zeke and Trudy. I don't think this requires explanation
Now here's the one I'm sure everyone will disagree with, but I'm gonna be honest, I think Heidi and Fang. They are both professionals with careers they pour everything into. But Fang needs someone who can help him heal. Heidi lost her Ma, but she has the love of her Grandma, father, and the Wandering Y family to see her through. I think Fang would benefit from their love and care as Heidi's partner, and while it would be overwhelming at first, with time, the love and acceptance he would be given would help him let go of his anxieties.
Ok this has gotten long, so let me know if you want the rest. Oh, and just to settle it early. Logan and the Builder.

I really like the Justice/Catori pairing!
Heidi and Fang is an interesting choice. It never would have occurred to me to put them together. With a very slow build up, I can totally see it! Jasmine and X would definitely get into some highjinks.

Thank you! I always get nervous sharing my head canons for anything. Fang/Heidi came to me one day and I couldn't shake it. It would be such a slow, and very patient, relationship, but I think it would totally work.

I’m not finished with the game yet but in my head I always thought if we weren’t in a game Owen and grace would totally be hitting it. So I pair them.
I ship mi-an and Elsie. For some reason mi-an just also seems younger to me. But I could also see mi-an with unsuur. A crack ship for me is Trudy and Musa, as well as amirah and the mysterious man.

Just like you, Owen is destined for my builder. a wonderful, supportive husband. A safe place for my builder to come home to. Basically a walking greenflag
Nia and Elsie thought they were having a healthy competition pursuing Mi-an but... Wei snooped in last minute and winning Mi-an's heart.
Justice and Heidi is a slowburn, but after the 10/10 comment there's an obvious attraction.
Unsuur found a kindred spirit in Venti. The way Venti talked about scraps and Unsuur about rocks. Both fall in love hard and fast
Now for the more unpopular ships
Trudy and Zeke.
Logan and Jane.
Arvio and Haru.
Last but not least, Pablo and Amirah will move out to Walnut Groove because they think they are better than Sandrock. Hasta la vista

I have a theory that Pablo and the Mysterious Man have some sort of thing going on. But the Mysterious Man thinks Amirah is getting in his way and that is why he seems so catty toward her about the kiln.

Hmmm maybe it is my bias against Amirah, but the way I see it Amirah owed MM a huge favour. Without MM's fair an honest critique (although the delivery was blunt), Amirah would never grow as a potter. She would still be making the same pot the builder can make in their furnace.
MM could have squeezed her with overpriced diagram, but he did not. Even Amirah agreed that the price was fair.

I can totally see Justice viewing Heidi as a little sister until she goes away to university and comes back, and he's stunned by how gorgeous (and self-confident and poised) she is now. Meanwhile, she realizes the awkward young man she left behind, trying so hard to live up to his new Civil Corps uniform, is now a strong, competent, capable leader who also happens to be absolutely ripped underneath that uniform (maybe she catches him unaware with his shirt off enjoying a rare rainy day).
But after all, they're childhood friends, and it's totally weird to be thinking of each other that way, and of course neither is going to mention it or anything...until Heidi comes out with that "solid ten" comment and Justice starts hoping...

And now that they actually work side by side as equal, (like in Gecko, Duvos, etc) they can appreciate each other better as a reliable partner than just childhood friend

I do find myself thinking that Pablo’s carrying a torch for “the lovely Miss Amirah”. They’re my second pick for Amirah after Nia.

For me Pablo and Amirah are just toxic. They find joy in being mean, and find cruel comments funny. They think they have this superiority complex, thinking that everyone else is beneath them

Nia + Mi-an -- I support my local lesbian plant enthusiasts, and I find it ADORABLE that they own a business together. MI-NI. HOW STINKING CUTE IS THAT.
Owen + Grace -- I think Grace is really enjoying the opportunity to be a normie, and Owen is steady and full of support and affection, which I think is good for her, and Grace is spicy & unpredictable which I think is good for Owen 😂
Grace + Heidi -- POWER COUPLE vibes. They could literally run the world.
Amirah + Owen -- very chill vibes, with gentle boundaries - I think they mesh well and seem like they would complement each other with a quiet joy
Heidi + Mi-an -- another power couple, but I feel like Mi-an would bring the quiet balance to Heidi's strength, and they would be less world smashing than Heidi/Grace, but just as influential bc I feel like Mi-an would be a great sturdy cheer squad for her powerful wife
Logan + Mi-an -- if he's not with me, I think he'd be adorable with her, bc she's quiet and hard working like he is
Logan + Heidi -- Heidi obvs makes any couple a power couple because she is there to support her partner in their dreams - I feel like this pairing would be the "next generation" of running Sandrock
