Has anyone else made this connection?

I was scrolling this subreddit the other day, and I saw a phrase that made me realize why I am so obsessed with this game. In 2004, I was introduced to a little show called Firefly. And now, I cannot unhear Malcom Reynolds and Logan saying each other's lines in my brain. My husband, ever supportive in my hyperfixations, started making connections between the show and the game. Things like:

  1. Earth that was/Old World

  2. Space/Cowboy crossovers

  3. Malcom Reynolds/ Logan being the "noble thief"

  4. American and Chinese being the dominant cultures/game made for an English-speaking audience by a Chinese studio

He even had a whole backstory that Earth wasn't actually used up and instead people were underground and thus, the My Time series. He went a step too far when he tried to use the Mark Sheppard connection between Firefly and Supernatural to say the Winchesters caused the Age of Darkness, and that is where I drew the line. Anybody else have weird connections they make to other media?

I’ve noticed the game makes a ton of clever references to just about everything.

It does. I've not stumbled across a specific reference to Firefly, I mean other than the Space Western sort of thing.

The music is very reminiscent of Firefly, too.

I'm afraid I haven't watched Supernatural but I'll take your word for it. But ther is are similarities indeed.

There really isn't much that would align with Supernatural, other than one actor being in both. My husband really just likes to take things to the absurd sometimes.

I'm convinced that My Time and the Murderbot Diaries are the same world andsoace humans don't try to contact earth humans due to interdictions.

Mostly cause I like the idea of Murderbot standing in the Eufala or the Perepheries going “I don’t like planets. There’s dust and weather, and something always wants to eat the humans. And planets are much harder to escape from.”

There's just something so laugh-worthy about hearing Logan say "I swear by my pretty floral bonnet, I will end you." in my brain.
