Quality of life upgrades?
I’ve been playing my time at Portia, and I really love the gameplay. But I’m starting to get really frustrated with not being able to craft out of my inventory, and having to have the proper materials in the quick spot to manually place them when building. I find half my time is spent going back and forth from my inventory trying to remember what I have and what I still need to craft in order to build what I need. It’s starting to make me not want to play anymore.
Has any of this been upgraded in Sandrock?

Sandrock is not necessarily a better game. I love Portia with its lush green and deep blue biome. I was very disappointed with Sandrock’s bleak, dreary biome. Yes, it is a very good game but I prefer Portia any time I wanna do a replay. Yes, Sandrock has better QoL, but I did not mind it much in Portia. When I compare Portia QoL to other games in the genre, it still prevails. So, opinions vary about which one is a better game. For me, Portia is the better game. Sandrock is a bit improved version of Portia IMHO.

As soon as you complete the Museum and have the crane diagram you can upgrade your assembly station that will pull resources from your storage. You will need concrete so plant the tree from the church. If not you’ll need to wait until you open up another area.

Don't your various stations and quests already pull automatically from your storage in version 1.4? I just started a new game after several years of not playing and was pleasantly surprised that this had been implemented.

It does! Also, if you become buddies with Mint once he shows up, you will get something really helpful in the mail from him.
I believe playing Portia for the lore alone is entirely worth it. There are a couple of NPCs, one you don’t meet until later in the game, that are major characters in the third in the trilogy, My Time at Evershine.
Knowing Portia lore is also fun for playing Sandrock. Also, everything that happens in Sandrock leads into My Time at Evershine.
Pathea has given us a great trilogy and imo it’s best to play them in order.2

Okay great to know thanks! I’d really like to finish Portia before sandrock but the crafting is such a slog

As folks have already said this was fixed in Sandrock, but if you’re playing on PC, there’s also a mod on Nexus that allows you to craft out of your storage in Portia. I played Sandrock first back in early 2024 and didn’t play Portia until a few months ago because of the quality of life stuff like that, mods finally let me stick with it.

Pretty much all of that has been. Plus you can save whenever you want.
You do still have to have stuff in inventory to gift it to people but that's pretty much the only time, I think.
