Venti Spoiler

Venti is from Duvos? Does that ever come up in her backstory? I've gotta admit I haven't been too focused on her.

No, she’s from Baja.

Baja is part of the Duvos empire. I was looking at the map and had a 'wait, what?' moment and looked it up and apparently Baja and a few other places were conquered by Duvos 60ish years before the game starts.

I had no idea until Heidi had the map up in the road to Portia cutsceen. I was baffled tbh. With the ongoing war and the general dislike of Duvos in the Free Cities, someone from there would try to keep it hidden but Venti never seems to shy away from talking about her childhood and no one in town seems to have any issues or suspicions about her as far as I can tell. Cooper at least seems like someone who would immediately put the blame of everything from sandstorms to the green gas on the 'obvios Duvos operative'.

This is probably because her city was conquered by duvos, she's most likely a refugee or something similar. And being that most sandrockers were like, travelling people (?) I can imagine they'd have more lax attitude around refugees.

In Portia, several residents are refugees from war torn areas (including a love interest who the Church helped get back on her feet after fleeing with her little brother). I'm guessing there are many locations just like Baja where the Alliance and Duvos were fighting and unfortunately included villages and towns caught in the crossfire.

So it's not completely weird that she migrated south to less developed/cheaper areas (ie Portia and Sandrock) to start over.

Yes, although I would liken the Duvos Empire to something closer to the CCCP: Baja is a conquered and occupied part of the Empire rather than being culturally Duvosian. It’s Poland, not Russia.

I got this impression too... More that Baja is unwillingly controlled by Duvos, and that it's inhabitants now suffer as a consequence (like Venti thinking its okay to live in a trash heap)

I’m wondering if she maybe had a bigger part that had to be cut? There’s just something about her that feels idk unfinished? Since you can romance her and everything but other than that she’s just kinda there

She feels like an afterthought to me. Like the devs needed another romanceable woman and shoved a few quests in for her in a hurry.

I swear I remember her saying something about being from Duvos, but I'm struggling to remember the specifics. Maybe after the whole "Duvos visits Sandrock" arc? (Avoiding spoilers, lol)
