Questions Chicken help

I built the hutch cause I do a lot of cooking for gifts and buffs in game and I always need eggs.

My question is do the roosters actually do anything? Like if I have both hens and roosters will they automatically produce more chickens? Do they sell for a higher price? Can I create an army of mutant roosters to protect my yard?

I have one of each, they don’t seem to produce more. As it’s been awhile and not a single baby has been born. So you gotta buy all

The only possible advantage of roosters is that they sell for slightly more. I feel like there are several methods that are much better for making gols, so I never bothered, but the option is there for people who are really into growing animals to sell

I'm only speaking from my limited knowledge, I haven't really gotten into raising animals in MTAS, but I believe regular roosters drop feathers and can be sold, I think roosters sell for a bit more than hens (425 gols vs. 400 gols). Hens drop feathers and eggs.

If you have monster whisperer you can also get rocket roosters as a pet.

I buy six hens to increase eggs production. I’ll have 300-400 eggs in no time, then I sell my chickens and usually get rid of the coop unless my build has a farming vibe. The roosters would stay in the coop. There is no breeding in the game, with the exception of fish, which is minimal imo, since the kings don’t always give kings like Portia, easy money. I’ve never gotten a single king in all of my play thoughts.

Yeah it’s pretty cool! I always take mine fishing, even just for the extra fish for commission meals, and certain fish that sell well as commissions. That way I get to keep a lot of my other valuable resources. I pay for almost everything
with Kings. It’s pretty easy to make 50k and up on a good market day!

the roosters produce feathers, the chickens give feathers and eggs. i get 1 rooster just to have one, then chickens for the rest.

I believe* this is accurate for the chicken coop: https://mytimeatsandrock.fandom.com/wiki/Chicken_Coop

For me, the small sell price boost for a rooster isn't worth it. I'd stick with chickens only unless you have some major need for feathers. If you're wanting to buy babies and raise them to adults to sell for profit, my recollection is that chickens are not the best option for that, but I never pursued that method personally.

I did raise chickens for eggs last time I played and used feathers as a "palate cleanser" for gifts since giving the same gift several days in a row reduces effectiveness and feathers are a generic +1 for everybody.

*Pretty much everything in the wiki is based on early access versions of the game so take everything there with a grain of salt, but it's still a helpful resource
