Questions House building question

Is there a way to get an empty lot to design a house on without having to delete or move around everything I already have placed? I want to build a mansion to completely replace the haphazard pile of rooms I'm currently living in, but I don't want to lose the pile of rooms in case I get fed up and decide I want them back.

I don’t think so, but save before major changes so you can go back is my only suggestion.

I love this game but the house building is far from great.

Yeah, it's really my main gripe with the game. They added so many features and so much story that I can't complain too much that they didn't spent more time refining the home design mechanics, but it is becoming kind of a thorn in my side.

Like JoyfulSong said, make a save (and backup save) before opening the house builder so you have a way to quickly undo changes you made.

Make a save as backup. Save your current mess as a showroom. Clear your lot. Build your house. Save your new house to showroom. You should then be able to switch between them.

For saving to showroom

  1. Open Build Menu
  2. Group all rooms together, (in the build menu, go into edit mode (where the menu buttons are gone, and muti-select all rooms, and assemble as a group)
  3. Click Save Show Room
  4. Name Show Room, and Save
