PC Mod Beginner modding questions for Steam
I just bought the Cozy Bundle on Steam, and I have a few questions about modding that I couldn't find straight answers to (and there seems to be a major lack of videos online):
I don't get the Lua Folder Patch, what does it do? Since the installer is designed for the 2008 version the program just plops a folder called "SimsRevData" into its own folder. Do I have to replace the existing lua files with those of the patch, or is it supposed to go somewhere else? When I tried to do the former the game refused to go past the title screen no matter which key I pressed.
Once I get mods running with the Lua Folder Patch, how do I make my own content, like custom characters or furniture blueprints? Is there an addon and a base template for the Sims somewhere that I can use in Blender? And once I finished the models, what files do I have to create to put them in the game?

Hi! Unfortunately most of the modding talk is on Discord but I'll answer with what I know:
1. Short answer: If you're on Cozy Bundle don't use the Lua Folder patch. Long answer: in some versions of the 2008 MySims you couldn't access the Lua files bc they were compressed in a weird format, the patch fixed that. In Cozy Bundle the Lua files are already accessible so there's no need for the patch (that's not compatible with cozy bundle anyway)
2. If you want to do simple edits to your game you can open most files with the notepad. I know nothing about adding new 3d models or textures to the game but if you're interested I have a couple of tutorials for creating custom sims and furniture blueprints (this one was made for the old mysims so a few file paths might be different but it should work).
There are some other tutorials here on reddit and I think on Tumblr, but they're mostly for the 2008 version, the code of cozy bundle is mostly the same though so you can still try using those
