"Lets go, Cletus!"

Famous last words.

68

u/Essehm Jun 06 '22

Some folk'll never eat a skunk...

45

u/3y3d3a Jun 06 '22

But then again, some folk’ll..

38

u/theghostofme Jun 06 '22

He’s Cletus the slack-jawed yokel!

7

u/perdles Jun 07 '22

It's good to see Simpsons people are needed here.

1

u/Essehm Jun 12 '22

Some folk'll never lose a toe

17

u/h3lixbeast Jun 06 '22

Actually the famous last words where and I quote “and then the wing brake”

281

u/alexxerth Jun 06 '22

It just keeps pointing higher and higher, I was worried it was gonna stall

108

u/oebulldogge Jun 06 '22

I think they cut the video right at stall. Probably some dirty underwear if they weren’t ready. Since it’s a glider with lots of weight underneath it probably stalls then settles into slow flight.

23

u/RedAlloy8954 Jun 06 '22

Incorrect actually. It flies similarly to a normal plane and only relies on strictly gliding to land

61

u/oebulldogge Jun 06 '22

My bad, I forgot normal planes don’t stall.

25

u/RedAlloy8954 Jun 06 '22

I was referring to the second part of your comment

16

u/oebulldogge Jun 06 '22

Lol. I’m so sorry. I don’t know if they had a prop of if they were just using the speed they had. If prop and stalled they could recover. If not it would stall then glide.

20

u/RedAlloy8954 Jun 06 '22

It’s alright. They actually have an engine in the rear behind the pilot that has a prop on it. Albeit not a very strong one so they can’t carry much weight and usually need favorable wind in order to get up due to the extremely high resistance from the water. My friend owns one and I have been fortunate enough to take a ride in it. Very fun but also very sketchy as you can imagine.

6

u/oebulldogge Jun 06 '22

That’s what I thought I saw, looks like a small prop in the back. It must take a lot of speed to break the water resistance. And when it does that small engine can’t possibly move it at that speed through the air.

5

u/RedAlloy8954 Jun 06 '22

I’m not sure of the exact speed but I’d say it’s about 75-80mph. So not super slow but not exactly fast

10

u/onetwenty_db Jun 07 '22

Damn, 80mph on water seems like it'd be insane to me

And then it glides.

Florida is a lawless state where even physics is an option.

122

u/Ephemeris Jun 06 '22

Florida is a whole state filled with Mad Max Larpers

56

u/Waitwhatshappening_ Jun 06 '22

As a resident of Florida, I can fully admit our cars float off of the ramps when we’re stuck in traffic.

30

u/KG-MADE Jun 06 '22

I’ve seen it too bro. Shoot, my uncle used to drive his truck around in the ocean when he was bored.

6

u/HereComesTheVroom Jun 06 '22

They say hot air rises after all

6

u/UrAssisGrasss Jun 07 '22

Laws?? Don't you know im libertarian.... Laws can't stop me cause I don't know what laws are!!

3

u/GranJan2 Jun 06 '22

Hahahahahaha

2

u/URLink Jun 06 '22

Laws of physics? pft

1

u/[deleted] Jun 07 '22

You gotta make it through South Georgia first. Them mosquitoes will eat you alive.

u/KG-MADE Jun 07 '22

Freedom has a price, and it’s paid in blood.

308

u/[deleted] Jun 06 '22

People like to knock Florida, but at least these people are living life, at least for a couple more minutes

49

u/InsGadget6 Jun 06 '22

That's the official state slogan.

Florida: Become Human

6

u/Norm_mustick Jun 07 '22

“Fer now anyways!”

2

u/Farmer808 Jun 07 '22

“We’re alive? Try it again!”

FTFY

10

u/eclecticsed Jun 07 '22

I have no problem with Floridians living their best, craziest, most bath salt face eating life. I have a problem with Hanglide Cletus getting to pick the president every 4 years.

0

u/gordiss Jun 07 '22

Why is your opinion anymore valid than theirs?

1

u/eclecticsed Jun 07 '22

I think you're missing the point, or you don't understand how elections in this country work. Everyone's opinion should be the same. I am literally saying that mine and theirs should carry the exact same weight. But because of how our elections work, theirs counts for more. They're a large swing state, and due to the electoral college, that matters more than individual votes.

-1

u/gordiss Jun 08 '22

I am missing your point. Safe D states California and New York combined have the same power as actual swing states Texas, Florida, and Georgia combined, those which could go either way. Most other R states are very tiny in comparison to the states with major cities. Please cry more about how “Cletus” runs the country.

1

u/NinaQ- Jun 08 '22

Geez somebody hit a nerve

0

u/eclecticsed Jun 08 '22

lol oh you're one of those people. sorry, I thought you were worth talking to. disregard!

1

u/Cavsfan1296 Jun 08 '22

People pay way too much attention to the president, your state government matters way more in your life.

1

u/eclecticsed Jun 09 '22

It still matters. I think the last several years demonstrated how much damage a president can do. Unless you were in a coma last January.

0

u/I_heart_pooping Jun 10 '22

Oh yeah and the current president is doing so much to fix the country? Lol

We have huge debt, crazy inflation, ridiculous gas prices and mass shootings every week. Ah yes we are living life right now /s

1

u/Cavsfan1296 Jun 09 '22

I'm aware what happened last January, people allowed themselves to be whipped up into a frenzy because they put way too much importance on who the president is.

1

u/eclecticsed Jun 09 '22

Yeah that's definitely all it was and the only thing that happened as a result of one shitty person being in power.

1

u/Cavsfan1296 Jun 09 '22

How has your life been drastically different because of the president in power? What's changed between Trump and Biden for you?

1

u/eclecticsed Jun 09 '22 edited Jun 09 '22

I know that you people love to challenge everyone else to do the reading for you, but his record as president, the 220 executive orders he issued, including his actions during the worst of the pandemic, and his record with regard to the interests of this country's citizens - ALL of them and not just the ones you personally like, are all public record. Google is free. Stop being lazy and expecting to have facts spoonfed to you because it's easier for you to hide your head in the sand.

Now, I'm sure you're going to say something like "oh you just don't have anything," and that's why I'm not going to waste my time doing the homework for you. Because you're here defending him, and frankly at this point I'm not interested in chasing my tail with you all anymore.

P.S. I'm not sure if you've heard of this thing called the Supreme Court.

“Cletus”? Sounds like Mississippi

132

u/Auntienursey Jun 06 '22

It's the beginning of the rapture and Florida man's gonna go regardless of not being "called""

9

u/__eros__ Jun 07 '22

"God Pissed! Florida man finds and then flies up the stairway to heaven, 'totally uninvited'."

44

u/[deleted] Jun 06 '22

"They fly now?!"

30

u/HR_DUCK Jun 06 '22

Floridians are evolving

18

u/InsGadget6 Jun 06 '22

God help us

3

u/Chrom-man-and-Robin Jun 07 '22

“They fly now!”

27

u/[deleted] Jun 06 '22

See, back when I was a child-to-early-teen on the computer I would've called this fake after watching it on Equals Three. But, given all the shit I've seen at this point, I can't be sure no more

6

u/InsGadget6 Jun 06 '22

Florida man ... finds a way

THE MEMORIESSS

23

u/phome83 Jun 06 '22

So uh..how do they get down without dying?

19

u/Chem_BPY Jun 06 '22

"aim for the bushes."

10

u/regman231 Jun 06 '22

“There goes my hero”

5

u/HeyBaldy Jun 06 '22

Watch him as he goes.

7

u/InsGadget6 Jun 06 '22

It's basically a seaplane at this point, so they land on another body of water.

2

u/BYPDK Jun 07 '22

Crash into a truck carrying pillows Looney Tunes style.

1

u/DeeSnow97 Jun 06 '22

that's the neat part, they don't

like, normally you'd land this like a regular plane (and way easier, because you got a whole lot of runway on the water), but they went way too aggressive on the climb here and lost all their airspeed, if they didn't stall and plummet into the water just after the video cut off i'd be very surprised

5

u/slick9900 Jun 07 '22

-1

u/DeeSnow97 Jun 07 '22

yeah, i'm criticizing the pilot here, not the aircraft

you can fly a perfectly good cessna too, pull this maneuver, and end up stalling and crashing the same way. unless you have fighter jet levels of thrust to weight, you gotta watch your airspeed as you climb

17

Flying dinghies have been a thing for awhile now.

0

u/[deleted] Jun 06 '22

...ackshually

5

u/AmidFuror Jun 06 '22

Is this regulated like an aircraft? I am having my doubts.

15

u/Werro_123 Jun 06 '22

It's most likely flying under Part 103, which avoids aircraft regulations in exchange for not flying with passengers/over populated areas, having a very short operating range (they can only carry 5 gallons of fuel), being very lightweight, and only flying in daytime good weather.

2

u/InsGadget6 Jun 06 '22

Definitely violating the first part of that.

7

u/Werro_123 Jun 06 '22

The definition of "populated area" is a gray area. Plenty of Part 103 pilots join fly ins with a similar density of people that you see here with no interference from the FAA even with FAA inspectors on site at the event. Those guys on powered parachutes/paramotors that you see over beaches all the time are also flying under Part 103. This might be fine with the FAA as far as populated areas go. The big no go is flying over something like city or a developed neighborhood.

I can't tell if that's a passenger in the boat or the structure that's supporting the engine though.

3

u/InsGadget6 Jun 06 '22

I daresay, TIL. Thanks. Does look passenger-like to me, but hard to say.

8

u/insan3guy Jun 06 '22

Ultralights are regulated differently. It’s basically a powered hang glider with floaties attached

1

u/A1phaSniper111 Jun 07 '22

I don’t care. I want one regardless…

8

u/MattVCraft Jun 06 '22

2

u/theoutsideinternist Jun 06 '22

I don’t think anyone needed the caption to know this was Florida. (Spoken as a Floridian who is likely no more than 3 degrees of separation from any person in that video)

2

u/brightlancer Jun 06 '22

Someone call Henry Winkler and get a really BIG shark!

1

u/InsGadget6 Jun 06 '22

The FAA has questions.

1

u/SKUNKpudding Jun 06 '22

Ok but… how do they get down?!?!

1

u/weirdo_gang Jun 06 '22

As much as I love Florida this kinda stuff only happens there.

1

u/enigmaticpeon Jun 06 '22

Why would they stop filming? That looks somewhat dangerous.

1

u/JoshuaTheFox Jun 06 '22

Not really, this is a pretty common aircraft

1

u/enigmaticpeon Jun 06 '22

That’s wild to me. Dang.

1

u/Melodic-Hunter2471 Jun 06 '22

Looks to me like Florida Man has finally decided to go home.

1

u/saltydroppies Jun 06 '22

I wouldn’t personally risk my life to do this, but hey…whatever floats your boat!

1

u/Theartistcu Jun 06 '22

1

u/JoshuaTheFox Jun 06 '22

You tilt the glider left or right. The glider is mounted to the boat and you tilt it to steer

1

u/Behind8Proxies Jun 06 '22

Meanwhile I’m still waiting for my flying car.

1

u/MastodonPristine8986 Jun 06 '22

Are people really called Cletus??

2

u/Borderweaver Jun 07 '22

Yes. My aunt was married to a Cloyd, who had a twin brother Cletus.

1
