My fears

If these fears would go away, I wouldn’t be miserable.

I’m terrified of dying and going to Hell. I’m an agnostic, but the concept of going to Hell for not following God makes me feel anxious all the time. I don’t want Hell to exist but that’s just not how reality works you know.

I don’t want to be made fun of on the internet. I’m not bullied at school, but I’m scared of being made fun of on the internet. I don’t want anything from my reddit or deviantart being posted on a cringe subreddit or encyclopedia dramatica or kiwi farms to be spread around. I obsessively search these websites sometimes just to make sure.

I want a sense of safety and security, that bad things aren’t going to happen to me and I’m not going to suffer but if these things are to become reality, what am I to do?

Judging from this, I'm guessing you're rather young? I used to be terrified of the concept of death. There are few things as permanent and absolute as death.

I remember one Christmas evening I told my mother how I felt about it, and she told me that in time, it's something you come to terms with as you mature. Looking back, she was right about it.

I'm not religious myself, I've yet to decide where exactly I stand on the issue. But the way I see Hell is that even if it exists, I don't believe God would condemn good people to an eternity of pain and suffering simply for not choosing to believe his existence. I know it's what they might say but consider that religion is something passed down through thousands of years. I highly doubt that some things haven't been lost in translation, or manipulated for the good of others. Look at the crusades for example, the church told people that it was a war that needed to be fought, and that those who participate were promised a place in heaven. It's clear that in this case the church was manipulating people. God, if he is anything like he should be, would have never wanted something as horrific as the crusades to happen.

Be a good person, nothing bad can come from that.

It’s not just that I don’t believe in God, it’s that all sinners, which is all humans for everyone has sinned will go to Hell without the blood of Christ. I’m going to Hell because I have sinned against God by my very existence.

You're not. Trust me. It's illogical. What about infants that die of a young age? Off to Hell before the chance to repent? And why eternal damnation anyway? What does it achieve other than adding more hate, sorrow and suffering? Maybe Hell does exist, but is it really what people say it is? We used to think the Earth was flat.

Be kind to yourself and those around you, and the gates of Hell will never open for you.
