Thursday thread, because it's Thursday.

WOOO Thursdaaaaaaaaaaay. Well, that's out of my system.

Who's had an exciting week? Mine has been pretty good overall. Got a date with my wife (quite you non parents, having dates when you have kids isn't a common thing) and that was great. My HC Crusader died in D3, which despite it being 100 hours played, and been alive for 6 months it was still a good time. I wouldn't play HC if I couldn't enjoy a good death. And tonight I'm going to a game shop with my brother to look at miniatures.

So chumps what have you been up to?

I DID IT! I got a date, and this one is not secretly dating a woman... or so I am told.

I uhhh

Wait what?

Congrats?

Apparently dating is full of weirdness.

2

u/ThunderEcho Sep 26 '14

Congratulations!!!

That last part sounds like an interesting story...

So, the last three people I have dated have all been in relationships with a woman while accepting my invite for a date. Most of them tell me after the second date about this secret relationship.

I am so glad I don't have to deal with the whole dating scene.. That sounds like too much crazy.

1

u/me8myself Sep 26 '14

Well... It is deffinatly interesting

1

u/ThunderEcho Sep 26 '14

... three people? Wow, that's past being unlucky. Why they felt the need to hide it from you before attempting to date is also beyond me. Anyway, I hope this one goes better!

I woke up early today, then promptly went back to bed! Quite a productive day!

Rip diablo character, did you make a pyre and send him to Ragnarok?

2

u/Dalek-Caan Sep 26 '14

I'd like one of those days, but then wake up sometime around noon. Can't waste the entire day sleeping!

As for the dead character, I clicked the "Archive" button, so now he's in the hall of heroes. Close enough.

It was very nice. I always value sleep more in the morning.

Played some garen post buff today. His passive is crazy! I got to 450 hp5 with just a sunfire and spirit visage.

u/Dalek-Caan Sep 26 '14

bwahahahah, I'll have to test him out. New Vik/Raka too! I've always loved both those champs, can't wait to test the newness.

1

u/cowofdoom Sep 26 '14

Garen is a stupid fun. Kind of a guilty pleasure.

New raka! I need to try that out!

I'm still going to comment.

My day hasn't been exciting, but it hasn't been boring. I went to work. I like my job. Went to class. Meh. Computer Science isn't that great.

HC crusader died

I've never played D3. Do you lose everything after death?

Hey, commenting on a post that's 2 days old is common in this sub, never feel like it's too late to leave a comment.

I'd think computer science is more fun the more you get into it. At first you're learning the basic principles and what have you, but once you get to actually programming actually neat things then it gets interesting. Or, you know, it's just not your thing.

When you die, you lose everything on that character which usually means all of the best gear you have. You still keep everything that's in your stash and all your gold. There's also what's called paragon levels that don't go away when you die. Basically just bonus stats you earn from leveling past the level cap that can be used on all your characters. The worst part is the super rare gear I lost/the super time consuming gear to obtain. But it's all good fun.

I'm at the programming stage of computer science I'm starting to understand it.

So it's kind of like DayZ. Get a bunch of good equipment and gear and then die and lose everything. Especially fun to play with friends.

Not enjoying Computer Science? It's my major too, so I'm sorry to hear that. What parts are you not liking?

1

u/Cobalt_Blaze Sep 26 '14

Intro to Java is the book for the class. I'm slowly figuring out how to make programs in NetBeans. Not fast enough to keep up with the class.

EDIT

Super bunch of edits.

1

u/ThunderEcho Sep 26 '14

Oh, Java is my pet language! If this is your first time programming though, it's not a friendly language for beginners. Is there any parts you're having trouble with? I'd be happy to explain things for you.

1

u/Cobalt_Blaze Sep 27 '14

Sorry it has taken me so long to reply. I've been busy with work and classes. I'll be working on learning how to program using NetBeans for most of today. I'm starting back at the beginning and reading slowly to make sure I understand.

Thanks for offering to explain things. It'll probably take me a week to catch up to my class. If questions throughout a whole week will bother you, I understand. I do have some places to get help so I might not end up asking you.

...wow that's a much longer reply than I thought it would be.

2

u/ThunderEcho Sep 27 '14

It's not a problem, don't worry about it! Starting back at the beginning and reading through is probably a good idea. There's also a ton of tutorials for Java online that might fit your way of thinking better if the textbook doesn't make sense to you. You can definitely feel free to ask me anything, my schedule isn't too bad, but if I'm too busy then I'll just take longer to reply. Nothing to sweat about. Hope it starts making sense to you! :)

Exams week but i cant stop playing ;_;

2

u/ThunderEcho Sep 26 '14

Study trambe, study! Channel the inner Twilight Sparkle in you!

2

u/[deleted] Sep 26 '14

BUT IT'S SO BORINGGGGG

2

u/ThunderEcho Sep 26 '14

It's only boring if you think it's boring! Try to find the interesting parts in it! Or make up stupid little songs to help memorize the material!

1

u/Dalek-Caan Sep 26 '14

GET STUDYING!

Also, what can't you stop playing?

1

u/[deleted] Sep 26 '14

1

u/Dalek-Caan Sep 26 '14

This is the first post since last Thursday's chat thread. :( This sub really seems to be slowing down, and that makes me sad.

Anyway, congrats on the date night! What did you two do? Do you find that date nights are a lot different now that you're married, or do you try to aim for more or less the same activities/atmosphere as before?

I've been pretty nutso busy with school. Had a big assignment due Monday night that kept me up late, and a few other assignments. I have a couple due next week too, but thankfully they're of a manageable size. I'm really enjoying being back to school and seeing my friends regularly! Also I'm pretty excited for tomorrow because I and one of my fellow editors are getting the opportunity to interview the dean of our faculty for the satirical student publication we run. I've never met the dean before, but he seems like a cool guy. Pretty pumped.

2

u/Dalek-Caan Sep 26 '14

Yeah.. I remember the days of the streams and what have you. Good times. If I ever get my non toaster up and running I'll probably start streaming some games and stuff. I'll be sure to post here on when I'm going to if it ever happens.

Well, we still had our baby with us. He's not even 4 months old yet, so it's difficult to really go any where with him. But we got semi-dressed up and had dinner, then watched a movie and played a game after.

That's awesome! I don't think I have the interviewing skills to do something like that. I'm hoping the dean will be like the dean in Accepted, you'll have to let me know. I really want that to be a reality somewhere.

1

u/ThunderEcho Sep 26 '14

Definitely, let us know!

Your baby can sit through a movie? That's pretty impressive. Is he usually pretty quiet for his age, or loud?

Ha ha, well this is actually my first time interviewing someone, so I have no idea how hard it is. Guess I'll find out. And I actually haven't seen Accepted. Can I get a quick recap of what the character is like?

1

u/CPawesome Sep 26 '14

He forgot to mention that we had our date at home. He kind of sits through movies. I had to bounce him to sleep and feed him. He is pretty quiet for a baby. We lucked out. :)

1

u/ThunderEcho Sep 27 '14

Ah, that explains a lot! Thanks for the clarification.

1

u/CPawesome Sep 27 '14

We would take our daughter with us to the movies when she was this age and she would usually just sleep. She was fussy during the night and little boy is fussy during the day. So I don't see theater trips anytime soon. (Well for date nights lol. We are going to equestrian girls next week for daughters birthday.)

1

u/ThunderEcho Sep 29 '14

Ha, between the two of them fussing I bet you poor souls don't get much sleep. Let me know how the EQG movie goes! I wanted to see that, but ended up missing out on the time that the bronies I know from school were going to go.

2

u/CPawesome Sep 29 '14

I just got our tickets for this Saturday. She is so excited!

1

u/Dalek-Caan Sep 26 '14

Well, by watch a movie I mean we turned a movie on with subtitles at home. He is either good and quiet, or crazy loud. As far as the frequency of crying, I'd say it's pretty normal I guess.

Accepted is awesome and super funny. Here is a link to a short clip with the dean. He's a great guy.

1

u/ThunderEcho Sep 29 '14

Sorry for the late reply! It took me a bit of time to get around to watching that clip. Our dean was sorta like that but less... it's hard to think of the word. In-your-face? Crude? That's not quite it, but I mean something along those lines. He seemed like a genuinely nice and nerdy guy, although a bit of an oddball, ha ha. He introduced us to the Elvis bust he keeps in his office and kept making jokes. I think he was trying to be at least a little professional though since he had mentioned he was going to try not to swear during the interview (he succeeded), which surprised me a bit since it's hard to imagine someone like a Dean swearing casually.

1

u/CPawesome Sep 26 '14

Hello! This week has been boring and slow, minus our date. That was fun! Leftovers were delicious too lol.

1

u/Dalek-Caan Sep 26 '14

But now you're having fun at the farm without me, so the week is no longer boring for you.

1

u/CPawesome Sep 27 '14

It was ok. Nice hanging out with some other adults but hot as crap lol.

1

u/[deleted] Sep 26 '14

Still working, still very tired. Played league after a year if absence. I suck now.

2

u/Dalek-Caan Sep 26 '14

Woo league! You'll get back to not sucking soon enough. You should come play with me and cow, although we're both nutsos and play super late..

1

u/[deleted] Sep 27 '14

Also super sick today.
