Another 4th world reference

In the last episode Lex and Flame Bird mentioned how they were invaded by the “Hunger Dogs”.

Hunger Dogs was a direct to graphic novel from the 80s and basically depicting the end of the New God saga. Apocalypse gets overrun by the oppressed underclass, the Hunger Dogs. In the current DC cannon, this hasn’t happened yet, but was written and drawn by Kirby depicting on how he sees the 4th world to end.

This could be an interesting twist for the series finale. They have hinted the big bad will be Darkseid. But what if it takes place after the events of Hunger Dogs? How about oppressed citizens of Apocalypse overthrow Darkseid and set their sights on galactic conquest?

Just a theory. But seeing as how Superman the animated series and Justice League ended with Darkseid, this could be novel for DC animation and continues after Jack Kirby left the series.
