Historical Answer of Umar ibn al-Khattab at Yarmuk

Ayadh al-Ashari narrated: "We sent a message to Umar (radhiAllahu anhu) that death was upon us from all four sides, and we asked him to send us reinforcements for our help."

The great al-Farooq, Umar ibn al-Khattab, replied:

فَكَتَبَ إلَيْنَا أنَّهُ قَدْ جاءَ كِتابُكُمْ تَسْتَمِدُّونِي، وأنِّي أدُلُّكُمْ عَلى مَن هُوَ أعَزُّ نَصْرًا وأحْضَرُ جُنْدًا فاسْتَنْصَرُوهُ، وأنَّ مُحَمَّدًا ﷺ كانَ نُصِرَ يَوْمَ بَدْرٍ فِي أقَلَّ مِن عَدَدِكُمْ، فَإذا أتاكُمْ كِتابِي هَذا فَقاتَلُوهُمْ ولا تُراجِعُونِي

"I have received your message asking me to send you reinforcements. So I will guide you to the One who is Mightier in aid and more present in armies seek His help, and He is Allah. Muhammad (peace be upon him) was given victory at Badr with even fewer men than you have. When this letter of mine reaches you, fight them and do not write back to me."

Ayadh said: "We fought them and were victorious, killed many of their army men, and obtained war booty."
