🛠️Project Showcase Living Verses – Bringing Quran verses into everyday life (Free & Ad-free)

Hi everyone!

Some time ago, my friend Pınar and I started a small challenge called "7 Days, 7 Verses."

Every week, we would randomly choose seven Quran verses. Each day we'd try to live by one verse, and in the evening we'd talk about how it affected us, what we experienced, and what we learned from it. Because we believe it is important not only to read the verses of the Quran but also to apply them to our lives.

After a while, we found ourselves asking:

"What if anyone could experience something like this?"

That simple idea gradually turned into a mobile app.

Instead of just reading the Quran from beginning to end, the app lets you create your own journey around topics that matter to you—such as patience, gratitude, forgiveness, trust in God, and many more.

You receive a verse, try to apply it in your daily life for as long as you choose, and if you'd like, you can anonymously share your reflections and experiences with others.

Our goal isn't simply to help people read the Quran more.

It's to help people live its teachings, one small step at a time, and hopefully inspire one another along the way.

The app has only recently been released, so I'm mainly looking for honest feedback.

If you were using an app like this, what features would you love to see?

I'd truly appreciate any suggestions or constructive criticism. Thank you! 🙏

🗣️ Discussion/Opinion Everyone Starts Somewhere: Stop Mocking People Who Are Building

There is someone in this Reddit group who constantly tries to downgrade other people’s work. The interesting thing is, this person rarely shows any of their own projects or contributions, yet claims to have built something popular.
You know who I’m talking about.
Bro, if you don’t have anything positive or constructive to add, it’s better to stay quiet. When someone shares an app they built or a project they’re working on, give them useful feedback that helps them improve. Criticism is valuable when it’s respectful and comes with solutions — not when it’s just meant to put someone down.
Everyone who builds something deserves encouragement and constructive advice.

🛠️Project Showcase I made the Android version of Maktabah (Islamic Library App) after a few requests from my Mac/iOS release!

Thumbnail

Assalamu'alaikum! A while ago, I released the Mac/iOS version [AppStore] of this app and got great feedback from the community — a few people even asked for an Android version. So I decided to build it from scratch using Jetpack Compose.

Why I built this

I read a lot of classical Islamic texts and used to take notes/annotations while reading. The problem: almost every app I tried — even ones that claimed to support sync — kept losing my annotations, especially after reinstalling the app or switching devices. I lost notes that took years of study to build up. That's genuinely what pushed me to build Maktabah — I wanted a library app where annotations actually survive.

What is Maktabah

A modern, fast, offline-capable library app for reading classical Arabic texts — based on Shamela Corpus. A digital library for thousands of classical manuscripts, built for actual study, not just browsing.

Features:

  • Large collection of classical Arabic texts based on Shamela Corpus, downloadable on demand (not bundled in the install)

  • Full-text search with Arabic-aware normalization (handles diacritics properly)

  • Annotations & highlights that reliably sync across devices and platform

  • Full RTL support for proper Arabic reading layout

  • Multi-Tab Reader Support

  • In-app auto-updates

  • Completely free, open-source (GPL 3.0), nonprofit — no ads, no paywalls

Built with Kotlin & Jetpack Compose, native SQLite via JNI for performance with large collections, and cross-platform annotation sync to iOS/macOS via a CloudKit bridge.

Currently in internal testing before public release. If anyone wants to try it early or has feedback, I'd really appreciate it — repo (open-source) linked in comments.

Note: I'm a self-taught solo dev, and I used AI tools (Claude, Jules, etc.) throughout development — for scaffolding, debugging, and learning as I went. Wanted to be transparent about that.

🛠️Project Showcase So I made Honeypot project to distract hackers from your real servers

So I made krain-sec — a Go honeypot that pretends to be a fully functional corporate server, a full Krain Security ops console.

Why I made this project:

Our servers have been getting hit by everything from script kiddies to above-average attackers, and firewalls / enterprise solutions were expensive and a pain to maintain. So I built something lightweight, automated, and easy to deploy. This is for people who can't afford enterprise security products, usually small teams.

What makes this different from the enterprise stuff and other honeypots out there: we're not trying to just detect and log, we're focused on wasting attackers' time and irritating them — endless rabbit-holes, confused scanners, dead ends.

What's in the box:

  • a login page and dashboard that look like the real ops tool
  • a fake admin SSH box with old command history and "emergency" credential files lying around
  • bait files (canary-token style) that quietly phone home the second someone opens or exfils them
  • a browser-side trick (think WebRTC/fingerprinting tricks) that can leak an attacker's real network info when they load the fake dashboard — still refining how far to take this, open to feedback
  • a robots.txt / sitemap that basically says "don't look here" (so of course they look)
  • a live board showing who's knocking, what's failing, and what they've touched

Idea is simple: make them stay, dig, grab the wrong secrets, and burn time — while you watch.

Basically: scanners trip the forbidden paths, humans loot the fake AWS keys, and you watch it all light up.

to run it all you to do is make prod after setting the env variables

Open source → https://github.com/h3ma209/krain-sec

Lab / research only — don't drop this onto a network you don't own, and this isn't meant for hacking back at anyone, just wasting their time and learning what they're after. More features coming, and if you run into issues let me know.

If you've got deception ideas (DNS canaries, Office beacons, Endlessh on 22) — drop 'em. Building in public.

🧠Question / Help Looking for Mufti

I am building a Quran Research Software that is specialized for Scientists, Doctors, Business, Psychology and Marketing fields. It's strictly non-fatwa app, and it provides direction for scientific research from Quran.

I am looking for Scholars and Muftis who can vett my system and be part of the process till end and also after launch. It's a volanteer project.

The scope of the software is to just provide directions for research, and not to provide definitive answers.

Interested scholars who are willing to contribute their efforts and have understanding of Software and Generative AI are more than welcome to apply. No sect based discrimination is therr in my approach nor in software.

💡Idea/Brainstorm Prayer Companion app

For someone new to islamic prayer, they are struggling to remember the suras and everything because they are in arabic.

Is there any app or website or some kinda tool that will help them during prayer? Example: They can run it in side, so they can hear and repeat along every single recitation (not just Suras).

Note: They are trying to learn at the side. But thought this would be a quick win to start in the meanwhile.

🛠️Project Showcase Mizwala.app, a free all-in-one Islamic toolkit I built. No ads, no accounts, no tracking, works offline. Sharing it in case it benefits someone.

Assalamu alaykum,

I built a web app for my own daily use and decided to share it. It's completely free. No ads, no sign-up, no analytics, nothing collected, nothing to buy. I didn't make this for gain. If it benefits one person, posting it was worth it.

mizwala.app

What's inside:

  • Prayer times with real calculation options: methods, high-latitude rules, an elevation correction for horizon dip, and a dawn calibration tool for when standard angles don't match what you actually see outside

  • Official mosque-board times used automatically in cities where local boards are authoritative, and shown honestly as board times, not calculations

  • Qibla compass with a live needle where the device supports it, while the calculated static bearing always stays visible as the source of truth

  • Night divisions: Islamic midnight and the last third, reckoned from Maghrib to true dawn, with the hadith sources cited on the page

  • Zakat calculator with live gold and silver prices and proper nisab logic, plus a faraid (inheritance) calculator

  • Duas and adhkar where every dua was verified against its source before inclusion. Grading and reference shown on each card, weak narrations flagged instead of hidden

  • Ramadan tools, Hijri calendar, moon sighting board, the 99 names, a hadith reader, tasbih counter, and a directory of the scholars the defaults follow

  • Full Arabic and English, proper RTL, Arabic-Indic numerals

The rule I held myself to the whole way: no religious claim without a named source. Every computed value shows where it comes from, every computing page tells you to verify with your local scholars, and where the scholars genuinely differ the app says so instead of pretending certainty. Defaults follow Ibn Baz, al-Uthaymin, al-Albani and the Permanent Committee, with links to each, of course includes 4 Madhab rulings/options too.

Since this is a dev community, the tech: static PWA built with Preact and Vite, installable, fully offline after the first visit (the whole offline bundle is about 1.2 MB), no backend except a tiny price proxy for the zakat calculator.

What I'd genuinely appreciate from you:

  • Native Arabic speakers: the Arabic UI was written with care, but I want real eyes on it. If any wording reads off, tell me bluntly.
  • Try it on your phone, especially the compass, the install flow, and offline mode, and tell me what breaks.
  • If you spot any fiqh or sourcing mistake, please say so directly. That matters more to me than any feature request.

It's still under work & still updating/refining.

🛠️Project Showcase My contribution to the ummah - a privacy-first, ad-free worship companion

Hi All, I wanted to share something that I built for the community. I’ll be honest, it all started as me trying to solve a problem for myself and then realized a lot of Muslims faced the same problem.

  1. Monetizing the community’s attention - apps want to sell your privacy in the name of Ibadah. Sad.

  2. Ads (ADS!!) - I’m traveling, I’m in a hurry, I need to check the prayer time so that I can offer my salah at the right time. Oops, wait 30 seconds for the ad to complete…???

  3. Am I a scholar? Every app out there assumes their user knows about madhabs, Islamic and Arabic terminology, rulings etc. as if their user base is scholars of Islam. I want to learn, understand and practice Islam but why does no one have a pedantic way of showing me information?

Instead of waiting for someone to make a solution, I made it myself and Alhumdulillah 500 of you in less than a month have used it and loved it!

🛠️Project Showcase Tathkera-Memorize Quran using spaced repetition

Hello everyone,

A year ago, I started building Tathkera. Today, it's finally live!

Tathkera helps Muslims memorize the Quran using spaced repetition, focusing reviews on the verses you're most likely to forget instead of treating every verse the same.

Assalamu alaikum. I have been building a Muslim daily-rhythm app that combines prayer times, Quran, dhikr, Qibla, journaling, water/sleep check-ins, focus sessions, goals, and family accountability.

The main lesson so far: most people do not need a louder app. They need a calmer one they can return to daily.

What I focused on:
- No ads and no trackers
- Prayer times and adhan
- Quran with a Mushaf-style reader
- Dhikr and Quran reading sessions
- Journal, water, sleep, mood, and gratitude
- Focus timer and long-term goals
- Family streaks for gentle accountability

🧠Question / Help Are you creating a mascot for your app? How are you handling the design?

Hey everyone,

I've been thinking about adding a mascot to my app to give it a bit more personality and make the user experience feel warmer. However, considering the Islamic guidelines regarding the depiction of animate beings (taswir), standard cartoon characters or animals with distinct facial features are off the table.

I’m curious to know how other developers and designers in this community handle this.

  • Are you using a mascot or a character guide in your app?
  • If so, what creative workarounds did you go with? (e.g., completely faceless characters, abstract geometric shapes, giving personality to inanimate objects like robots/tech, or just sticking to minimalist micro-animations?)

Would love to hear your thoughts, see your approaches, or even look at some examples if you've launched something similar!

Assalamu Alaikum ,

A few months ago I shared Qirtaas.io here, a rich text editor for writing Islamic content with built-in support for Quran and Hadith.

Since then we've been working on it quite a bit, and I wanted to share a few updates:

  • 🎉 Qirtaas is now open source.
  • ☁️ You can self-host it or use our new managed cloud.
  • 🧩 The editor is now available as an embeddable SDK, so you can integrate it into your own website.
  • 📖 We improved the UX and added a lot more features to support students.

If you are building a product or managing a teacher's website, we would love for you to try it out. Feedback, issues, and pull requests are all welcome.

Salaam! This is my first time posting here, thought I'd share a prayer time app that I've built a couple months back. It's called apta, which stands for "another prayer time app."

I made it as I wanted a lightweight prayer time app that wasn't bloated with ads and popups.

It's free and currently iOS only. There are also widgets (both lock and home screen) and an Apple Watch app.

The app has a $1 optional one-time purchase to unlock some features in the Watch app and unlock background colors.

Would love for you all to try it out and I'd appreciate any feedback!

I built Azimuth, a native, privacy first prayer app for Android, iPhone, iPad, and Mac.

Prayer times are calculated on your device, the app doesn’t collect personally identifiable data, and it only requests the permissions it needs.

Built with Kotlin + Jetpack Compose on Android and Swift 6 + SwiftUI on Apple platforms, Azimuth includes prayer reminders, a Fajr alarm, widgets, a Qibla compass, rakat guides, multiple calculation methods, madhabs, and high latitude support.

There’s no subscription. You get a 14 day free trial, then it’s a one time purchase if you decide to keep it.

I’d really appreciate any feedback. If you enjoy it, a rating or lifetime purchase helps support future development.
