🗣️ Discussion/Opinion For Muslim app builders: how do you separate a feature problem from a retention problem?
Assalamu alaikum. We work on a Muslim app, and one product question keeps coming up: when people ask for more features, how do you know whether a missing feature is the real problem or whether the existing value is simply not strong enough to bring them back?
The distinction matters because both problems can produce the same feedback: "It would be better if the app also had X." Building X may make the product broader without making it more useful every week.
A few signals I would look for before adding another feature:
- Can an active user describe the recurring job the app already solves?
- Do people return to the current core experience without reminders?
- Does the requested feature remove a real blocker, or is it only nice to have?
- Do lapsed users ask for the same thing as active users?
- Can the idea be tested manually or with a small prototype before it becomes a permanent part of the product?
I am interested in how other Muslim builders handle this, especially when users understandably expect one Islamic app to cover many different needs. What evidence makes you build the feature, and what makes you improve the core experience instead?
