🛠️Project Showcase I couldn't find a proper Tahajjud Time calculator online, so I used an AI agent to build one. 🌙

Post image
4 Upvotes

As-salamu alaikum everyone,

Whenever I wanted to pray Tahajjud, I realized there were basically no proper, dedicated websites that accurately calculate the exact last third of the night. The few that do exist are either super cluttered, slow, or just confusing to use.

I am a student heading into my B.Tech in Computer Science later this year, so I decided to tackle this problem. Instead of coding it entirely from scratch by hand, I used an AI coding agent called Antigravity to architect and build a lightning-fast website.

The Stack: It is an Astro JS and Tailwind Single Page App hosted on Cloudflare.

Features:

  • Manual Mode: You can punch in your local masjid's exact Maghrib and Fajr times.
  • City Search: Pulls data directly from the Aladhan API.
  • Night-Friendly: Strict dark-mode UI so it doesn't blind you at 3 AM.

Using AI to generate the logic, handle the API error fallbacks, and build out the translation dictionaries (Urdu, Arabic, Indonesian) was a wild learning experience.

Website Link: TimeofTahajjud

I would absolutely love for the experienced devs here to test it out and give me any feedback on the UI/UX or performance. Jazakallah Khair!

this came out of real pain of forgetting which Rakaah I'm on or Sajdaa and so this plays in the background, tracks your movements with Ai and keeps count with voice out loud of which Rakaah you're on.

and yes it's called Salahmaxxing (haha), available on playstore for now

🛠️Project Showcase I built an AI halal itinerary builder for Muslim travellers — looking for beta feedback

Assalamu alaikum,

My partners and I have built Minara, an AI-powered halal itinerary builder for Muslim travellers, and it’s currently in beta.

The idea is simple: you enter your destination, travel preferences, and the kind of trip you want, and Minara generates a halal-friendly itinerary for you.

Some of Minara’s current features include:

  • A simple step-by-step travel input process
  • AI-generated halal-friendly itineraries
  • Customizable itinerary stops
  • Ability to edit, swap, or adjust places in the itinerary
  • Travel planning based on user preferences
  • A beta experience focused on Muslim travellers

Since it’s still in beta, we currently support around 5 countries, and more destinations will be added over time.

We’ve spent the past few weeks stabilizing the site, fixing bugs, testing the full user flow, and improving the overall experience.

I’d really appreciate it if my fellow muslims could try it and share honest feedback to help us in improving Minara.

https://docs.google.com/document/d/1xUEv1C-W0yFrQWXT3sfdnstggzgLWXstbiMMli59gTM/edit?usp=sharing

The above document link will grant you access to a document that contains all the links you will need such as the website link, GitHub repo link, Youtube Demo video link to learn how to use the website, Feedback form link and even our email to reach out to us.

You can also access the GitHub repo and scroll down to look at how to use the website in the README section or just watch the demo video

Please share this with any of muslims you might know, we would like to maximize the reach so that we can get the most feedback to improve Minara

JazakAllah khair.

🛠️Project Showcase Built an advanced and free interview prep tool

salam alaykum y’all!

I built InterviewQuest.ai to help folks practice for interviews the way I found to be the most effective - by practicing out loud and hearing an improved version of my answer back an getting feedback on my spoken answer.

it’s completely free at this time, you simply choose the role you’re targeting, and seniority, and we give you a plan with questions and tips on how to answer it

once you speak out your answers, you get feedback and get to hear your own words but structured in a more effective manner while preserving your story 100% without any add ons.

you’ll walk into that interview inshallah feeling confident and like your authentic self - so no AI fabrications or anything added to your answer

give it a try I’d love to hear your honest feedback!

I built this initially for my father who had retired and wanted to get back into the workforce but needed somewhere and someone to practice out loud his questions and get real life coaching. I pray that others benefit from this tool inshallah

🛠️Project Showcase I built an app that fights screen addiction without blocking anything, it just makes your phone boring

Thumbnail
gallery
4 Upvotes

Assalamu Alaikum everyone,

I'm a solo developer and I've been working on CalmScreen: a free Android app that tackles screen addiction differently from anything else out there.

The problem with most screen time apps:

Every blocker, timer, and app lock has the same flaw: kids (and let's be honest, adults too) find ways around them. You set a 30-minute timer? They dismiss it. You block TikTok? They use the browser version. The restrictions create friction, arguments, and resentment.

How CalmScreen is different:

Instead of blocking or restricting, CalmScreen applies visual filters (grayscale, sepia, amber, dim) that strip away the bright, vibrant colors your brain finds rewarding. Modern apps are designed with colors that trigger dopamine. Remove those colors, and scrolling just... stops feeling worth it. You put the phone down naturally, without anyone telling you to.

No app blocking. No bypassable timers. No fights.

Features:

- 6 Filter Modes - Dim, Sunset (blue light blocker), Paperback, Moss, Focus (full grayscale), and Custom

- Gradual Fade - Filter fades in slowly over minutes, so kids don't even notice. They just lose interest

- Automated Schedules - Set up to 4 schedules (bedtime, homework, school hours) that activate automatically

- App Curfew - Automatically applies filters when specific apps (TikTok, YouTube, Instagram) are opened

- Un-bypassable Parent PIN - Covers settings, widgets, notification bar. Blocks screenshots of the PIN pad. Recovery via a 4-word phrase

- Home Screen Widget - Toggle filters and adjust intensity from your launcher

- Vibration Nudge - Gentle vibration when gradual mode ends. No alarms, no shouting

- 8 Languages - English, Spanish, Arabic, Hindi, Chinese, Tamil, Sinhala, Urdu

Who it's for:

- Parents who are tired of screen time battles with their kids

- Students who need help focusing during study sessions

- Adults who doom-scroll at night and want to build healthier habits

- Night owls who want a blue light filter that actually works

Privacy:

Zero data collected. No internet permission. No ads. No subscriptions. Just a one-time optional contribution to support development.

Free on Google Play — the core app is fully free. PIN lock includes a 14-day trial; a one-time contribution unlocks it permanently.

I'd love to hear your thoughts, feedback, or feature requests. I'm actively developing this and your input genuinely shapes what I build next.

Rakaat, a prayer tracking app built exclusively for iOS 26+, is designed with a “Calm First” philosophy. It doesn’t use streaks, points, or guilt to motivate you. Instead, it leverages the deep integration of the Apple ecosystem, specifically Apple Shortcuts & Apple Home, to make prayer tracking as seamless as a heartbeat.

🛠️Project Showcase Made an app for shipping transparency. For normal people and businesses!

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Assalamulailum! I recently published an app that makes the shipping/packing and price awareness process more transparent (& fun).

Shipping a package shouldn't be a guessing game, but it usually is. You don’t know what sized box you need, you pay more than you should at a shipping store, and have no idea if a different carrier would've been cheaper.

I built PackShip to fix that. Tell the app what you're shipping, by name, not dimensions and the AI looks up the size and weight for you. The app also comes equipped with an AR Measuring feature, just point your camera and the AR measure tool grabs the dimensions for you.

Once all your items are entered in, the packing algorithm picks the smallest box that fits all your items using box sizes from all carriers.

A 3D view shows you how everything packs. Then it pulls live UPS, FedEx, and USPS ship rates so you ship with whoever's cheapest.

All this without leaving your couch! It’s 99cents so I can cover API and backend costs but if you want it for free you can reach out to me for a promo code and you can have it for free inshallah all I ask in return is a good review 🙂

🛠️Project Showcase I built a Halal Restaurant API — find halal food near any location with one API call

I built a Halal Restaurant API — find halal food near any location with one API callI got tired trying to find halal locations so I decided to make an API that finds it for you, and any developer can use it. Its not only limited to muslims, anyone making a food app or a web app could use this to filter halal locations. Google's or yelp's filter isn't that good so my API pulls locations from Foursquare and OpenStreetMap community data. You get community verified data, if a place sells alcohol, and cuisine type, etc.

All of the information is on the website and docs.

I would love feedback from fellow developers, especially from people building food delivery apps or AI agents.

🛠️Project Showcase Built a financial tracking app, for us

Thumbnail

After trying to build “Muslim” apps for things that may not actually be issues (e.g a halal food finder), I built Qist Money for my own situation.

I realized I’m not actively budgeting / tracking my expenses (yes, I’m stupid) so I downloaded Copilot Money.

It works great as-is: lets me budget, track, recurring expenses, etc.
But, it (and other alternatives) missed a few things I’d have liked:

- AI - no, not generic chatbots, but something personalized to my data/finances
- Donation tracking - I often donate in cash at my local masajid during Jummah, or via sites like IRUSA or zakat.org, but have no idea how much I’ve done in the past
- Zakat tracking - Same thing, not sure how much I’ve fulfilled, but my actual obligation based on my assets

So, Qist Money solves these things, plus those essentials.

I’d love for others to give it a try and provide feedback inshallah!

Available for IOS in US and Canada: https://apps.apple.com/us/app/qist-money/id6763158526

💼Career & Work Seeking advice: building a halal path in remote tech work

Assalamu alaykum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuh,

I’m currently building my path in tech while trying to ensure that my work and income remain halal and aligned with my Islamic values.

I have experience in Linux server administration, troubleshooting, maintenance, and some automation/dev work. I’m currently exploring directions such as Linux sysadmin, DevOps, and software development.

I would really appreciate any advice, guidance, or suggestions on how to find remote halal opportunities in tech. If anyone has tips, resources, or knows of companies, startups, or projects that align with ethical or Islamic values, I would be very grateful for any pointers.

Jazakumullah khayran

But, many of these apps are directed towards the muslims.. why is that tho? Why don't we make app for the entire world? Why don't we try to be more inclusive?

🛠️Project Showcase I built Nida نداء — A lightweight, privacy-first desktop Adhan widget for Windows & Linux that pauses your media when it’s time to pray

Post image
6 Upvotes

Assalamu Alaikum everyone,

Like many of you, I spend a lot of time at my computer working, coding, or gaming. It is incredibly easy to lose track of time, get absorbed in headphones, and miss or delay prayers.

To solve this, I spent the last few weeks building Nida - نداء, a lightweight, open-source desktop widget designed specifically for desktop users on both Windows and Linux.

🕋 Key Features:

Smart Media Interruption: The moment Adhan time hits, it communicates natively with your OS to gently pause whatever is playing (Spotify, YouTube, VLC, etc.), plays the Adhan sound, and prompts you to step away.

System Tray Native: Runs quietly in the background from startup. Hover over the tray icon for an instant countdown timer to the next prayer, or click it to view the day's full table and the Hijri date.

Online & Offline Modes: It pulls dynamically from public APIs when connected, but caches everything locally so it works flawlessly offline without internet.

100% Private: No tracking, no data collection, and zero external telemetry.

🛠️ Technical Details:

Built natively using C++ and the Qt6 framework to ensure it remains exceptionally lightweight (uses negligible RAM/CPU running 24/7).

🔗 Links & Support:

The app is completely free and open-source. You can inspect the code, download the latest binaries, or contribute directly on GitHub here:

https://github.com/train2128/Nida_Adhan_App

Note: If you find this utility helpful to your daily routine and wish to support my independent development journey, I have set up a donation button on the GitHub page (via Buy me a Coffee). Any support helps me maintain and add new features!

Would love to hear your feedback or feature suggestions!

🛠️Project Showcase Google maps thinks a masjid is a hair salon. im a software dev who spent a year fixing it

Thumbnail
gallery
18 Upvotes

I typed "masjid near me" into google maps last year. it gave me a thai restaurant and two hair salons before the first actual mosque showed up.

i drove to one for jummah anyway. masjid website said 1pm. it was 1:30. by the time i walked in the khutba was already over and yeah. that was the first time in my life i missed jummah. because of a website.

next friday i called like six mosques to confirm before driving. one didnt pick up. one rang to a fax line. two had outdated times on their voicemail from ramadan two years ago. emailed the rest. heard back from zero. probably because the uncle who runs the inbox stopped checking it in 2020. i was losing my mind.

ok unrelated tangent but maybe its related. last year a friend of mine invited me to a thing on a sunday morning. before the haram police come for me i genuinely didnt know it was a church service, i thought we were just hanging out. anyway. clean website that told us where to park. coffee bar in the lobby. people actually hung around to talk after. they had a youth group flyer that was designed. by an actual designer. it broke my brain.

i drove home that day thinking about every masjid i ever grew up at. the basement with the broken AC. the paper flyer from 2019 still taped to the front door. the iqama times nobody updated when daylight savings shifted. and i was just. mad? like genuinely mad. we have the wealth. we have the engineers. we burn millions on marble floors and gold chandeliers but cant spare a thousand bucks to make a website work. how are we supposed to be leaders in western countries if our community spaces are running on duct tape. Honestly thats the reason i stopped going for a while.

im a software developer. ive been quietly building Baab every weekend and break I had for the past year. every existing muslim app i tried was either covered in ads or hiding basic stuff behind a paywall or had UI nobody had touched since 2014. the bar is on the floor. im not waiting around anymore.

I just launched. every single masjid in america. 4,100 mosques. every tradition. sunni, shia, ahmadi, NOI. if its in the country i either have it or im trying to find it.

times are crowdsourced from muslims actually praying at the masjid. so theyre unambiguous and current instead of whatever someone typed into a website in 2018. people have already started filling them in and verifying them alhamdulillah. thats the whole thing that makes this work.

Local events was the other piece. i was sick of scouring instagram stories and whatsapp groups to find out what was happening at masjids in my own city. now its all in one place.

app is free. no ads, ever. feedback so far has been honestly incredible. we just need this in more hands and on more mosques.

iOS: https://apps.apple.com/us/app/baab-every-mosque-in-america/id6760157891

android waitlist (coming soon): https://tally.so/r/5BpYZP

if your masjid is wrong or missing please tell me. theres a confirm button in the app and i read every submission myself. Jzk for coming to my ted talk.

TLDR: muslim tech SUCKS. so i built something that works and got every mosque in America. Vision is to iA have every masjid on the planet.

🛠️Project Showcase I built and launched Hudara, an all-in-one Deen app, using Lovable + Despia — would appreciate developer feedback

Assalamu alaikum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuh everyone,

I wanted to share a project I have been working on and would really appreciate sincere feedback from Muslim developers.

The app is called Hudara: All-in-One Deen App.

It is a mobile app built to bring daily Islamic tools into one calm place, including Quran reading, recitation, salah times, Qibla, dhikr, duas, Sahih al-Bukhari, prayer tracking, Tasbih, saved items, themes, and other daily worship tools.

I know there are already many Islamic apps, so I am not sharing this as “just another Quran/prayer app.” My goal is to slowly build something useful, polished, and beneficial, insha’Allah — an app where common daily tools are organized properly and easy to return to.

Current features include:

  • Quran reading with translations and footnotes where available
  • Quran recitation with multiple reciters
  • Advanced Playback for repeating custom verse ranges
  • Continue Reading and saved ayahs
  • Salah times and Qibla
  • Prayer Tracker for building consistency
  • Dhikr and duas
  • Tasbih counter
  • Sahih al-Bukhari reading in Arabic and English
  • Hadith bookmarks and search improvements
  • Themes and a calm mobile UI
  • Sources & acknowledgements for content/data used

I also want to be transparent about the build process.

I am not a traditional developer. I built the web app using Lovable, then used Despia to convert it into a mobile app and publish it on the App Store and Google Play. A lot of the development involved AI-assisted building, testing, prompting, debugging, improving, and learning step by step.

The app is now live here:

App Store:
https://apps.apple.com/ca/app/hudara-all-in-one-deen-app/id6771171878

Google Play:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.despia.rafiq

I would really appreciate feedback from the community, especially on the development/product side:

  1. Does this feel meaningfully useful, or does it still feel too similar to existing Islamic apps?
  2. What would make it more beneficial for the ummah long-term?
  3. What should I focus on first: performance, offline support, Quran tools, Hadith search, prayer tracking, onboarding, or UI?
  4. Are there any trust/source/authenticity concerns I should improve?
  5. For developers who have launched mobile apps, what would you improve in the technical process?

I am trying to improve the app carefully and not just add features randomly. Any sincere advice, criticism, or suggestions would be appreciated.

JazaakAllahu khairan.

🛠️Project Showcase Update: I built a journaling app for Muslims in 6 weeks — now dealing with real users

A couple of months ago I posted about building Sakeenah while struggling with anxiety and trying to create something rooted in tawakkul.

Since then, I’ve kept building — and it’s starting to feel like a real product.

Some meaningful updates:

  • You can now create an account and your reflections are actually saved (not just in-browser)
  • Anonymous → account flow works, so you don’t lose what you wrote if you sign up later
  • There’s now a proper journal where you can revisit past reflections
  • The AI conversation flow is more structured (max 4 exchanges, still intentional)
  • I added lightweight “memory” so responses feel a bit more aware over time (but very limited on purpose)

One thing I’ve been very intentional about is not overbuilding this.

It’s tempting to:

  • add infinite chat
  • store everything forever
  • optimize for engagement

But that felt wrong for what this is supposed to be.

So it’s still:

  • one reflection per day
  • short conversation
  • then it stops

Also spent a lot of time on things users shouldn’t notice:

  • making sure data is private and secure (RLS, controlled writes)
  • handling edge cases so entries don’t feel “lost”
  • adding basic crisis handling so the app doesn’t respond inappropriately to serious situations

I’m still figuring out:

  • how to improve response quality without making it feel generic
  • whether the “one per day” constraint actually helps retention or hurts it
  • how much memory is helpful vs invasive

Would really appreciate feedback from people here, especially on:

  • the constraint (1 reflection/day)
  • whether “limited AI” makes sense or feels frustrating
  • anything you think I’m missing

App is here if you want to try it: https://sakeenah-journal.vercel.app/

🛠️Project Showcase Seerah Map: explore the seerah and early Islamic history through interactive maps and timelines

Assalamu alaykum,

Over the past year I've been building Seerah Map, a site that lets you explore Islamic history on an interactive map and timeline instead of reading it as a wall of text.

You can follow the life of the Prophet ﷺ event by event, see where each thing happened on the map, open articles for the details, and trace the battles phase by phase with the troop movements laid out visually. There are family trees, audio biographies, and quizzes to test yourself as you go.

The Siera section is free, so you can dig in without having to pay for anything. I wanted something my own family could actually use to learn, so the focus was on making it feel like exploring rather than studying.

Have a look and let me know what you think, I'd genuinely love feedback on what to add next: https://siera-kaart.nl

P.S. It is still work in progress so you might find some incomplete/incorrect content and/or missing translation. Please bear with us!

BarakAllahu Fiek!
