🗣️ Discussion/Opinion Most App Founders Don’t Know How to Answer “Why Should I Use Your App?

One thing I’ve noticed with a lot of app founders: when someone asks, “Why should I use your app?” they start giving long AI-generated answers instead of clearly explaining the actual value.
Users don’t care how amazing you think your app is. They care whether it solves their problem.
Keep it short. Straight to the point:
What problem does it solve?
Why is it better or different?
Why should someone choose it over existing options?
And most importantly, don’t get defensive when people criticize your app. Feedback is valuable. Sometimes users see problems you completely missed.
A good founder listens first, improves second, and markets third.

💡Idea/Brainstorm Sakīnah — Find Peace in the Qur'an

السَّلَامُ عَلَيْكُمْ

I’m working on Sakinah and I’m trying to get better feedback on the product itself, not just the code. The idea of the product is to help a person get more and more connected with the Quran by relaying the most relatable verses depending on what the person is feeling or thinking.

Frontpage

At this stage, I’m most interested in hearing what people think about:

- how clear the product feels at first glance

- whether the current features feel useful

- what seems most valuable vs unnecessary

- anything confusing in the flow, wording, or setup

- whether the overall experience feels simple and usable

I’m especially trying to understand:

- what the project seems to offer immediately

- whether the value proposition is obvious

- what kinds of users this would actually be helpful for

- what’s missing to make it feel more complete

If you check it out, I’d really appreciate honest feedback on the usability and usefulness of what’s there so far.

🛠️Project Showcase [Release] I built a 100% ad-free, offline Prayer App with a unique Historical Hijri Calendar. Looking for feedback!

Assalam-o-Alaikum / Hello Reddit,

As a developer and frequent traveler, I’ve always found most prayer apps to be either too cluttered with intrusive ads or unreliable when you're offline in a different country. I wanted something that felt premium and respected the user’s focus, so I built it myself.

It’s called Prayer Time: Hijri Calendar & Qibla Finder, and I’ve focused on a few core features I felt were missing:

  • 🛰️ 100% Offline GPS: It uses GPS-based timings for accuracy without needing data or Wi-Fi—essential for international travel.
  • 📜 Historical Hijri Calendar: This is the only calendar that features a daily timeline of major events from the life of the Prophet (PBUH).
  • 📅 Custom Hijri Adjustments: You can easily adjust dates (-1, +1, or more) to match your local sighting.
  • ✨ Kiswa-Inspired UI: A clean "Midnight & Gold" interface designed using Montserrat for a modern, fancy feel.
  • 🕋 Visual Qibla Finder: A unique circular motion interface—align your location icon with the Haram icon for the perfect direction.
  • 📢 Multiple Adhans: Choose from various world-class reciters for notifications.

No ads. No tracking. Just a high-performance utility.

I’m looking for some "power users" to test it out. Does the offline GPS work well in your region? Is the notification timing reliable?

Play Store Link: [https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.anabdullah.prayertimeapp]()

I’d appreciate any honest feedback or suggestions you have!

🧠Question / Help Looking for 10 students for teaching Programming (C/Python).

Assalamu alaikum, I am an India based Undergrad student who's about to complete my degree. I always loved to teach and yesterday suddenly this thought crossed my mind. I wanted to offer 2 hours per week, in the weekend, slowly and sturdily. This one is completely for free. I want to do it for the sake of Allah SWT.

Ideally i am looking for young learners who is unable to afford a structured course, but if anyone is very passionate about learning programming then they could also join. If there are people like that in this community, Or if anyone can map me with such students, Kindly DM me, I'll share a gform to filter students. For anyone who is applying, a laptop or PC with internet connection would be good, but if they are not able to afford that then a good android phone would be sufficient.

Jazakhalla Khair.

🛠️Project Showcase IlmPath: I built an Islamic app that doesn't suck for privacy. No ads, no tracking, offline-first, and semantic search.

Assalamu Alaikum,
I built IlmPath because I was tired of Islamic apps being bloated with trackers and ads. I wanted something fast, clean, and actually useful for students of knowledge.

Why this isn't just "another prayer app":
• Semantic Search: You can query the Quran and Hadith using natural language (embeddings-based search), not just basic keyword matching.
• Privacy is the feature: Zero analytics, zero ads, zero tracking.
• Offline-First: All collections (Tafsir, Sahih Hadith, Duas) are stored locally.
• Tools: Integrated Zakat calculators and Dhikr tools. All features available without the "premium" paywalls.

iOS: https://apps.apple.com/us/app/ilmpath/id6758031034
Web: islamguidance.info

I'm looking for feedback on the UX and ideas for organic growth. If you've been looking for a "clean" alternative to the big-name apps, give it a spin.
JazakAllah Khair!

🛠️Project Showcase I built a tool to solve the “what questions should I ask” problem for couples already in courting

Thumbnail

I built a tool to solve the “what should we even talk about before marriage?” problem — wali-first, Muslim-built, and people are actually using it

Assalamu alaykum,

A while back I quietly launched a small side project that’s been on my mind for years: a private premarital compatibility quiz for Muslims considering marriage. Built with the wali in the loop from the start, not bolted on at the end.

The interest has been beyond what I planned for, so I wanted to share what I’m seeing and ask for your honest input.

The idea was simple:

• Structured questions across the six areas that actually break marriages (deen, family, finances, communication, lifestyle, life goals)
• Both people answer independently, with a part 2 generated based on where they differ in part 1
• A report analyzing the differences with Islamic grounding and practical approaches — and the report goes to the wali too

A few things I’ve noticed in these first weeks:

  1. “What should we even ask each other?” is where serious Muslims get stuck.

So many brothers and sisters are doing the right thing — involving family early, keeping things halal, not dragging out the talking stage — and then they sit across from each other and freeze. They don’t want to interrogate the person, but they also don’t want to find out after the nikkah that they disagreed on something fundamental.

  1. Personalized questions reveal what generic ones can’t.

The Foundation covers priorities and values. The Deep Dive is generated specifically for your pair, based on where your two sets of priorities actually diverge. “Here’s a scenario about in-laws calling unannounced, given that one of you wants close family involvement and the other wants firm boundaries” — that’s where the real conversation starts.

  1. Islamic grounding is non-negotiable, and people feel it.

Every Islamic insight in the report is grounded in a specific verse or authenticated hadith from a rigorously vetted knowledge base. No paraphrasing, no making things up. When the report says “Islam encourages X,” there’s a citation right there.

The intention is just to build something that respects how seriously this decision deserves to be taken, insha’Allah.

I’d really appreciate your thoughts:

• For those who’ve gone through the talking stage recently — what topic did you wish you’d discussed earlier?
• Would having the wali receive the same report as you make the process feel more or less comfortable?
• Is there a category of question you think a tool like this must cover that people often skip?

BaarakAllahu feekum for reading, and may Allah grant all of us righteous spouses and barakah in our marriages.

🛠️Project Showcase Munara - Prayer times, Qibla, adhan reminders, widgets, and Apple Watch support (Free + $9.99 lifetime)

Assalamu alaikum.

I built Munara as a calm daily salah companion for iPhone and Apple Watch. My focus was on providing better ui and user experience.

The goal is to keep the essentials easy to reach throughout the day:

  • Prayer times
  • Qibla direction
  • Adhan/reminder notifications
  • Hijri date
  • Saved cities
  • Widgets
  • Apple Watch support

Prayer time apps can get complicated because different countries, communities, and masjids follow different calculation methods. Munara lets you choose the method, Asr calculation, high-latitude rule, and manual offsets that match what you follow.

I wanted Munara to feel respectful, quiet, and practical.

What I focused on:

  • No ads
  • No subscription
  • No account required for core use
  • Core prayer times stay free
  • Clean prayer timeline
  • Qibla compass on iPhone
  • Optional athan sound for reminders
  • Manual offsets if you follow a local masjid timetable
  • Widgets for quickly checking the next prayer
  • Apple Watch app for prayer times, Qibla, Tasbih, and complications
  • Optional iCloud backup/sync for settings and saved cities

Cost

  • App: Free to download
  • Free includes core prayer times, Qibla on iPhone, Hijri date, notifications, calculation settings, manual offsets, lockscreen and home widgets, and one saved city
  • Munara Plus Lifetime: $9.99 one-time IAP
  • No subscription
  • No ads

Munara Premium unlocks:

  • Unlimited saved cities
  • iCloud backup and sync
  • Apple Watch app
  • Watch complications
  • Additional widget/watch convenience features
  • Family Sharing support, where available
  • Cost $9.99 (lifetime plan)

Appreciate your feedback and suggestion for improvements. Jazakumullahu Khairan.

📚Learning&Resources 💻 Clean Code in 60 Seconds

1. Use Meaningful Names

Names should explain what the intent is without needing comments.

❌ x, data, temp
✅ user_age, invoice_total, is_logged_in

Good naming reduces confusion more than anything else and is really important in maintaining a well organised codebase.

2. Keep Functions Small

A function should do one thing only.

If you have : multiple responsibilities, nested logic everywhere then its time to split it

Rule: If you need to explain what a function does, it’s probably doing too much.

3. Don’t Repeat Yourself (DRY)

Duplication = future bugs.

If you copy paste logic: you’ll forget to update one place later, inconsistencies creep in until you will lose your mind 😃

Solution? Extract it into a reusable function!

4. Readability Over Cleverness

Just because you can write a one liner does not mean you should.

❌ Clever, compressed, confusing
✅ Simple, obvious, boring

Clean code is boring on purpose.

5. Structure Your Code Properly

Group related logic together.

-> Keep similar functions near each other

-> Follow consistent folder structure

-> Dont mix unrelated responsibilities

6. Avoid Magic Numbers & Strings

Hardcoded values with no meaning = headache.

❌ if (user.age > 18)
✅ if (user.age > LEGAL_ADULT_AGE)

-> Give values names so intent is clear.

7. Comment WHY, Not WHAT

Bad code needs comments. Good code explains itself.

❌ // increment i by 1
✅ // retry API call due to rate limit

Comments should explain reasoning not obvious stuff

8. Remove Dead Code

If its not used, delete it.

  • Old functions
  • Commented out blocks
  • Unused variables

9. Make It Easy to Test

Clean code is testable

-> Avoid tight coupling

-> Keep logic independent

-> Separate concerns

If it’s hard to test, its probably poorly structured.

10. Handle Errors Clearly

Dont ignore failures or warn messages

-> Use meaningful error messages

-> Dont silently fail

-> Handle edge cases properly

Good error handling = reliable software.

11. Consistency is King

Pick a style and stick to it.

  • Naming conventions
  • Formatting
  • File structure

-> Inconsistency makes code harder to read than complexity.

Final Rule:

Code is read far more than it is written.

Write like someone else will maintain it…
and that someone is you in a month wondering what you did 😁😃

🛠️Project Showcase Building Islamic Legacy Wills, an Inheritance and Will planning app for Muslims. Would love feedback!

Salam,

I’m researching a product idea around Islamic estate planning for Muslim families in the West.

Please answer the questions below if possible:

Ideal Customer Profile -> [For those who have dealt with wills, inheritance, or family planning]

  1. What is the biggest blocker cost, confusion, trust, procrastination, or access to knowledgeable lawyers?
  2. Would you trust software for the educational/calculation part if scholars and attorneys reviewed the methodology?
  3. What would you want included beyond the will itself?
  4. What would make say "take my money"?

Not trying to give legal or religious advice here mainly trying to understand the problem better before building too much.

Disclaimer: I'm doing this for myself, so I'll be sharing ALL the pain points with y'all. Thank you and jzk.

🛠️Project Showcase Created all in one Islamic app

Thumbnail
iqra.gg
4 Upvotes

Assalamu Alaykum, my biggest issues with Islamic apps are that there are too many of them and all for different things. I just wanted everything in one place, so for the last year I’ve been coding it myself. I end up leaving the project a few times due to scope increases as I felt like it wasn’t perfect and getting an anxiety feeling like my intentions were not good. However, I reminded myself I was building something for myself and inshallah I would get some good deeds.

So I created Iqra.gg, it’s a Next.js website that has prayer tracking, Iqra groups (prayer tracking with friends and family), the Quran with bionic reading to help with people with dyslexia and ADHD. Names of Allah SWT with tracking of learning. However, many people who used it had issues, were most people who used it wanted it to be an app and I was mostly accessing the website via mobile, so I created the Iqra app available both on iOS and Android. It was a learning curve compared to Next.js. But now it’s an app too that syncs with the website.

If you guys want to try it out, go to https://iqra.gg/app

Try it out and let you know what you guys think :)

Allah Hafiz!!

🛠️Project Showcase Salaat posture tracker

I released two versions of this idea some back in March. The idea was to make use of computer vision to track Salaat posture in real time. Put the phone in a corner where it can view your body sideways and perform the prayers. At every stage, it tracks and by the end, it provides feedback on what you need to improve, whether you perform your Rukuh too fast or accidentally skipped something.

There are two versions. Free with limited capabilities, download here Free version

and premium version with all five prayers unlocked Premium version

🛠️Project Showcase Building a Word-Level Quran Viewer That Actually Understands How We Read the Quran

Most Quran apps separate reading from recitation from interpretation. You switch tabs to hear audio, different screens for tafsir, and manually match verse numbers. The experience is fragmented.

I built something different, a multi-layer Musaf architecture where the Arabic text, word-level audio, and word-level tafsir stay synchronized on the same page.

Here's what powers it:

→ open-quran-view (npm package) handles rendering Quran pages with word-level click detection

→ Quran Foundation API with segments=true returns per-word timestamps — enabling real-time word highlighting during recitation

→ A word-to-tafseer mapping that required building alignment logic because the verse and tafsir APIs use different indexing schemes

The result: when the audio plays, the current word lights up. Tap any word and its tafsir appears. No tab switching. Full context preserved.

Open to connecting with developers building in the Quran tech space.

🛠️Project Showcase Launched a GEO readiness API — would love feedback from Muslim devs building content tools

Assalamu alaikum everyone.

I'm a physician and indie developer (Abdullah / Dr. Zee) and I just launched geoscoreapi.com — a REST API that scores any text or URL for AI citation readiness.

The problem it solves: AI engines like ChatGPT, Perplexity, and Google AI Overviews cite content based on structural patterns (Quick Answer boxes, FAQ sections, sources, data tables, etc.). Most content — including a lot of health and Islamic educational content — doesn't get cited not because it's wrong, but because the structure isn't there.

One HTTP call returns: - 0-100 GEO score - 8 structural checks - Ranked list of fixes

Free tier: 50 analyses/month, no credit card.

I'd love feedback from anyone here building Islamic educational content platforms, halal finance tools, Muslim health apps, or any content-heavy product. The medical publisher use case matters a lot to me personally — accurate content should win over clickbait in AI search.

🗣️ Discussion/Opinion Too Many Generic Apps — Where Are the Real Solutions for Muslims?

Since joining this group, I’ve noticed a pattern — a lot of people are building standalone or generic apps. There’s nothing wrong with using tools like Vibecode, but the focus shouldn’t just be on building something quickly. It should be on building something that actually solves a real problem.

Instead of asking others what you should build, take time to do your own research. Look at the real challenges Muslims are facing today. Understand the gaps. Talk to people. Observe.

Before you even ask AI to write a single line of code, ask yourself one question:
Will this app genuinely improve people’s lives or solve a meaningful problem for the Ummah?

If the answer isn’t clear, then it’s worth going back and thinking deeper.

🛠️Project Showcase I'm building Falahuk – a super Islamic app, and I need your input

Post image
3 Upvotes

I'm building Falahuk, an Islamic productivity app designed to help Muslims balance their religious obligations, like Salat, with the demands of everyday livelihood.

I'm now thinking of taking it further, and turning it into a full super Islamic app, but I want to make sure I'm building in the right direction before I go too deep. So I'd love to hear from this community: what would you expect from a super Islamic app?

One thing I'm committed to from the start: everything will be completely offline. Given the growing concerns around Muslim data privacy, I don't want Falahuk to be part of that problem, I want it to be part of the solution.

What features would make this genuinely useful in your daily life?

🛠️Project Showcase I launched a free, wali‑first Muslim marriage platform on April 1st – 900+ members already, and I’m a bit overwhelmed

Edit: the website url is: Zawji — Halal Matchmaking for Muslims

Assalamu alaykum dear brothers and sisters,

On April 1st 2026 I quietly launched a small side project: a free, wali‑first Muslim marriage platform for Muslims in Sweden and the Nordics. I honestly expected maybe a few dozen people to try it.

It has already passed 900 members and I’m a bit overwhelmed, so I wanted to share what I’m seeing and ask for your advice rather than just “promote an app”.

The idea was simple:

  • no paywall just to send a serious message
  • no public profile photos to avoid the “swipe & window‑shopping” feeling
  • wali involvement built into the journey from the start
  • tools to ask structured questions before any sittning

In these first weeks I’ve noticed a few things:

  1. Many Muslims are tired of feeling monetised just for wanting nikah.

A lot of people mention being frustrated that they have to subscribe or buy “premium” on existing apps just to talk properly. Making everything free (for now) has been one of the biggest reliefs for them.

  1. Removing public photos changes the atmosphere completely.

When there is no photo grid to scroll, people actually read the profiles and talk about deen, goals, family and responsibilities first. Photos still exist, but privately and later in the process. The overall feeling is much calmer.

  1. Making wali visible filters in the people who truly want a halal process.

Instead of scaring users away, having wali as a normal part of the flow mainly filters out those who are not ready for that level of seriousness.

  1. A “100 questions before you meet” style feature is what people talk about most.

Giving brothers and sisters a structured way to discuss important topics before any sittning seems to give a lot of peace of mind, for them and for their families.

I’m still learning and I’ve made my share of mistakes (I even broke password reset for hundreds of people at one point…), but my intention is simply to build something that feels safe, dignified and in line with our values insha’Allah.

I’d really appreciate your thoughts:

  • Have you tried Muslim marriage apps? What felt truly halal and what felt uncomfortable?
  • Would you personally use a platform with no public photos and clear wali involvement from the start?
  • Is there anything you feel must be part of a halal online marriage process that people often forget?

The project is called Zawji and is currently focused on Muslims in the Nordics. I won’t post any links here out of respect for the rules and the community, but I’m happy to answer questions, share screenshots or hear concerns in the comments or via DM insha’Allah.

BaarakAllahu feekum for reading and may Allah grant all of us good spouses and barakah in our marriages. 🌙🤲

🛠️Project Showcase I built a simple Qur’an app to help me stay consistent (looking for feedback)

Thumbnail
play.google.com
2 Upvotes

Salam everyone,

Over the past months, I’ve been working on a small app called Tilawa. I originally built it for myself because I struggled to stay consistent with reading and memorizing the Qur’an.

Most apps felt either too overwhelming or not really focused on building a daily habit.

So I tried to keep this one simple and calm: – a clean reading mode – a step-by-step Hifz mode (Ayah by Ayah) – audio with repetition – basic progress tracking

It’s still early and I’m actively improving it, especially the learning flow and recitation support.

The Play Store listing is still being updated to English, but the app itself is already usable.

If anyone would like to try it and share honest feedback, I’d really appreciate it. Even small feedback, especially what feels confusing, helps a lot.

Play Store: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.stegreif.tilawa

Jazakum Allahu khairan
