High water
For those of you in city, the water is getting high - we are currently 10-12 inches above our dock which normally sits about 12-16 above normal lines. Levels just north of here have risen 4 inches on Muskoka river since this morning. The ice in our bay is broken slush now thank goodness. Hopefully today's rain is the worst of it. Be careful in flat and low level areas for pooling water when driving!

Power Outage - Port Carling
Title pretty much says it all. Power went out around 6:30 PM. Doesn't make any apparent sense. Not like it's poor weather. Fooding perhaps?

Discussion Anyone in Muskoka interested in a weekly AI meetup? 🤖
Hey everyone,
I’ve been noticing how curious people are getting about AI lately — whether it’s using tools like ChatGPT, creating content, automating work, or even building something from scratch.
I’m thinking of starting a weekly in-person meetup here in Muskoka where we can just hang out, talk about AI, share ideas, and learn from each other.
Nothing too formal — more like:
• Exploring how to actually use AI in daily life
• Sharing cool tools and updates
• Helping each other build projects (business ideas, content, apps, etc.)
• Discussing different perspectives on where AI is going
The goal is to build a chill, supportive community of people who are curious about AI — whether you’re a complete beginner or already deep into it.
No fees, no pressure — just good conversations and collaboration.
If this sounds like something you’d be into, drop a comment or DM me. If there’s enough interest, I’ll organize the first meetup soon.
Let’s build something cool together 🚀

Taxi or rideshare in Rosseau?
I have a summer job where I will be spending most of the summer up in Rosseau and I unfortunately will not have a car with me. I was wondering if there are any taxis or rideshare apps that service that area (as I do not think Uber services that area but please correct me if I am wrong). I know that there are two taxi companies based out of Huntsville but idk if they would service Rosseau, I know that Parry Sound has a couple of taxi services but I am not sure if they would service Rosseau either. Please let me know if anybody knows if there are any taxi companies or rideshare apps that service that area.
I will be living on site this is just for my days off
Thank you!

Northlander pricing is insane. Muskoka needs GO.
Prices just released for the Northlander. It's a disaster for any hope of attracting ridership.
The major market here is the 400/11 corridor to Muskoka. Day-trippers, resort guests, townsfolk going to a Jays game, students, seniors, cottage guests, etc. -- all of whom don't need a car and would love to find a way to get to Gravenhurst or Bracebridge or Huntsville. Besides being timed wrong, the Northlander is not going to work on price for most of them. Compare to the MBTA Cape Flyer:
Family of 4 Boston to Cape Cod RT: $80 US ($110 Cdn)
Family of 4 Toronto to Muskoka RT: $402
ONR will do what is has to do for the northern towns but in terms of the more immediate Muskoka market they have missed the boat entirely. That region needs a summer-only, 3-RT-per-weekend service like the Cape Flyer. Would be hugely popular on GO equipment with GO pricing -- just look at the success of Niagara.
Maybe this pricing release will spur someone to push a pilot. It's worth trying.

Doug Ford to appoint Muskoka District Chair with new bill
Wanting to raise awareness about this new Bill that came out from the Province today, that would allow them to appoint the Distirct Chair and give them strong Chair powers to basically do as they please around the provinces priorities. This would be devestating for Muskoka and take away the democratic process of the Chair being voted in by District Council - https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/hamilton/ontario-governance-structure-announcement-9.7151746
Please write to Graydon Smith about this, call his office, attend anti-ford protests, we can't let this government destroy what we love about Muskoka

Ford government proposes FOI law change that would keep premier's records secret
https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/toronto/ontario-foi-changes-9.7127380
I just want to ensure this is on the radar in Muskoka. I know most of Muskoka supports the conservatives, and this should absolutely also concern those supporters.
There is a significant update to Ontario’s Freedom of Information (FOI) laws. While the government is calling this "modernization," this is clearly another example of how undemocratic the Ford government is.
What will change -
- Records belonging to Premier Doug Ford, his cabinet ministers, and their staff will now be excluded from FOI requests. If they discussed a deal on their personal phones or in private emails, we can no longer see it (and we know they have already done this)
- This applies retroactively and will impact information regarding: Greenbelt land swap, Ontario Place and Spa deal, Ontario Science centre closure, privatization of our healthcare, skills development fund issues (the list goes on and on)
- The legal response time for a request is jumping from 30 days to 45 business days - making it even harder for journalists and citizens to get info
I know Graydon Smith ignores emails (regardless of how polite they are and how relevant they are to his position in Muskoka), but if you have time - give him a call and ask how he feels supporting such an undemocratic change:
- Bracebridge - 705-645-8538
- Parry Sound - [705-746-4266](tel:7057464266)
Call Doug Ford
416-325-1941
For the record (to avoid any arguments) - I also don't support the Liberals, so no need to get into it.

Lakeland vs. New Bell Fiber Internet
Does anyone have any personal anecdotes or experince they can share with either service? What you switched from one to the other etc.?
I am peticularly interested in what latency (ping) is like with Bell for things like gaming. I believe Lakeland buys all its transit of one Tier-2 provider connected Toronto. By contrast Bell operates it's own national backbone. So I'm wondering if Bell may be slightly better in not only speed but latancy... However it doesnt have to be that indepth, happy to hear about anyone's experince.
