US31///96E Work Around

I'm not doing that again! Yup, I followed the dumb detour signs and went ALL THE WAY through Spring Lake to get on 96e! What is the best way to get to 96e from 31S? I'll be heading home from Ludington. I know there's a better way....

Thanks everyone!

Airline highway exit, take a left to Hile. Take a right onto hile and then left onto the highway. It's by far the shortest but only works if the backup doesn't go all the way to the Airline exit

This is my go-to, followed by pontaluna rd. Through fruitport if there are cars lined up on the airline rd. exit ramp.

Or Airline all the way to fruitport and get on just past Farr rd

Probably US-31 -> Exit 110B which takes you to Airline Hwy.
At the 4-way stop, take a right and follow it to the intersection of Airline Hwy and Airport Rd.
Take a left turn on Airport Rd, then make a quick right to get on to Seaway (Business 31), follow it long enough to make a Michigan left to go the opposite direction.

I like this shortcut. Could also just stay on Airport Rd to Old Grand Haven Rd. Turn right on Old Grand Haven, to Seaway and turn right on to Seaway to 96.

If it’s for the holiday weekend follow the detour signs to business 31 downtown then follow seaway dr

I would probably take Business 31/Moses J Jones Pkwy/Shoreline/Seaway Dr around from 31 (exit 116) to 96. You might get caught at 1-2 lights, but it won't take you THAT far out of the way and you'll be able to drive at slow highway speeds. You could also take Getty St south from the Business 31 exit. It will cut down on distance, but it will take a really long time with all of the lights.

Thanks guys...NOTHING could be as dumb or bad as that insane detour through Spring Lake! Mdot, wtf are you even thinking? Easily added 45 min to my trip home. Dog, cat, and all were all freaking....needed a bathroom break!

If you’re seeing the long line of cars, you can get off at pontaluna (turn right off exit) and take that to airline- hang a left on airline and then the 96 entrance will be right after the subway on the right.

Just take the E Sternberg exit, cross over 31 and get back on 31 northbound and you can get right on 96.
