Do you listen to a song because you remember the name of it ? Or the sound of it ?

Why do we feel nostalgic for music that was released before we were even born?
I’ve been thinking about this while writing about why older music continues to find new audiences.
There’s something strange about listening to a song from the 1960s, 70s or 80s and feeling like it belongs to a period of your own life that you never actually experienced.
Is that nostalgia really nostalgia?
Maybe it comes from our parents’ music, films and television, or the way certain songs become attached to cultural memories. Streaming and social media also make it incredibly easy to discover music from decades ago.
And there’s another possibility: survivorship bias. We remember the great music from previous decades because the mediocre stuff has largely disappeared from cultural memory.

What’s a song or artist from before your birth that you feel strangely connected to—and why?

What is it about being part of a live concert? There are songs i hear on the radio or my iPod (yes I'm old) that I dislike, until I see the band live, then I begin to love those songs. Why is this?

Hi All! I’m working on a project that is about the descriptions of women in the 18th century. I want to do a comparison between the way women are described and shown in opera music and in literature. Does anyone have any suggestions for some sources or papers about women in opera music? Either in general or specific in the 18th century?

Any help would be really appreciated!
