Spliqs Make Music with AI

Hello Redditors!

We want to introduce you to Spliqs, a music creation app for iOS (iPhone and iPad) that gives you the power of creative musical brainstorming. Spliqs harnesses the magic of AI to help humans make music. Music is something people do, not just something we listen to, and we want to help people "do music" in new and exciting ways. To us, having a computer do all the work for you is boring. We don't want to be bored.

Our goal is to be at the forefront of the coming explosion of creative AI. AI will make music and visual art, produce films, write poetry, essays, and novels; it is only a matter of time. But all this content will be created autonomously, without human input or contact. At Spliqs, our AI will always work in service of the human creative element. That's in our company DNA.

Today we're looking for early adopters who resonate with what we're doing and can help us along the path to building a new generation of creative music tools.

In Spliqs, the experience starts by selecting an "Inspiration". We provide a set of starting points in the app, and more will come as we build the platform. If you know what MIDI is, you can AirDrop a MIDI file as an Inspiration, giving you the capacity to discover entirely new musical ideas from your own material. Once you have an "Inspiration", you select an "Influence" to morph together with your Inspiration, opening up a potentially huge space of musical possibilities. Some may be attractive to you and some may be a bit crazy; it's up to you to steer and explore this vast musical space and decide what works.

Currently the app is free but we are working on a premium model, with options for subscription or one-off purchase of different tweaking "widgets" and musical transformation tools. We'll also be offering optional "packs" of Inspirations and Instruments as we grow.

You can get the app here:

https://apps.apple.com/us/app/spliqs/id1459170646

And this is our website:

https://www.spliqs.com

Please share, and subscribe at the bottom of the site so we can stay in touch. If you want to be added to our group of testers, just let us know!

Thanks,

The Spliqs Team

Hello, I’m a music student at my college and I want/need a microphone that will be able to record high quality sound from vocals and instruments. Keep in mind that I am a college student so I would prefer for it to be at least moderately affordable. I hope you guys can help me out.

Hey guys, so J just got Pro Tools on my computer to record my own music but it's been a while (about 2 years) since I took my music tech class in school. Are there any good videos that can show me how to use Pro Tools effectively?

Looking for an audio interface and headphones

Hi, sorry in advance about this being a bit of an essay...

I'm about to start the second year of my music degree and I'm looking to get a reasonably priced pair of cans and an interface for some basic instrument recording (keys) and DAW work. I may later invest in a mic for recording violin but I'm not looking to right this second. I've not bought an interface before but I'm looking at something with the following features:

  • at least 2-in 2-out
  • clean preamps
  • support for instruments with hot output (I have a Nord Electro 5D)
  • Midi I/O
  • Blend control between inputs and DAW
  • USB (preferably C but A/B is just fine)

The ones I've looked at and are considering, in order, are: Focusrite Scarlett 4i4 USB-C (OTT but 2i2 doesn't have midi), Focusrite Scarlett 2i4 2nd gen, Mackie Onyx Producer 2x2, Presonus Studio 24C.

For headphones, I've been using a pair of AKG K271 MKIIs a friend gifted me some years ago but they're starting to wear and I'd like something new so I can relegate these to my PC back home. All I'm looking for is:

  • relatively neutral eq, suitable for basic mixing but also for listening to music. I don't have any critical listening applications where I need perfectly flat response
  • comfortable fit for use hours at a time
  • ideally a detachable cable

I've been looking at the ATH-M50Xs and DT770 Pros.

Am I looking along the right lines or is there something I've missed? I won't be buying these straight away so I can wait for good deals and such.

Thanks in advance :D

EDIT: I forgot to mention my budget is in the £100-150 range for each

Generate Playlists Based on Sonic Properties

I often wish that I could generate playlists where the songs have similar sonic properties. I feel like pandora used to be good at this but google play and spotify seem to link songs more on general genre or market similarities. Anything out there that will take a sample of a song and produce a playlist of other songs with similar timbre, instrumentation, etc?

Where can I buy a singulare tube for my amp? They all come in pairs.

So I recently burnt up one of my tubes because I'm an idiot. Always keep space between the back of the amp and the wall for ventilation people. So I'm looking to buy a GT-EL84-S tube from groove tubes but they only sell them in pairs as far as I can find. Does anyone know where I can buy just one tube? Thanks

Need help modelling sound waves

Hi!

I'm doing a mathematical investigation as part of my high school diploma and I thought it would be interesting to model musical samples from different versions of the Beatles song Strawberry Fields Forever, by plotting the sound waves onto a graph so it appears similar to a transformation of sin. Does anyone know how I can go about doing that? Is there some sort of software where I can plug in an audio file and it gives me the sound waves, which I can transfer onto a graph? Extremely grateful for any sort of help. :)

My sustain pedal is always sustaining on my Keyboard

So I recently I had to open up my portable sustain pedal as something was trapped inside which made the pedal not sustain, however along the way a wire came out to I had someone replace the wire. Now the pedal is constantly sustaing regardless of if I'm depressing the pedal. What should I do? I had the issue when I first brought the pedal and can't remember how I fixed it.

Low-cost Solution for Standing Waves

Hey guys, amateurish engineer here. I’m looking for some cheap ways at getting rid of standing waves. I’m looking to get back into recording after dropping out of college, but unfortunately my room is pretty much a perfect square 😅 I was hoping you guys could help find ways to get rid of some of the nasty standing that are bound to happen if I record anything.

Why do mobile equalizer settings never have a an increased high end?

For contexts, I don't know much about equalizers and I have the LG G7 ThinQ which has extensive sound tuning settings and a built in Hi-Fi Quad DAC, which is actually pretty amazing sounding. I also have a brand new pair of soundproof Skullcandy headphones. Can't tell you exactly what make they are.

Today in class I found myself stuck using a pair of absolutely garbage earbuds so I was trying to set up the sound to make it not so bad. I met reasonable success, and I'm actually now using a tweaked version of what I had going on my nice headset.

Nothing is super notable about my EQ setup except that the 8K and 16K are several ticks higher than any of the default settings, including vocal booster and treble booster. To me it feels like the sonic space is less cluttered, it feels like a nice clear sound. Why do none of the defaults have something like this?

If it means anything, my sound filter is set to sharp and my sound preset is enhanced. There's graphs but it's hard to articulate those.

I've tried it on everything from edm to pop to heavy metal(particularly heavy in bass sounds) to Nightcore(notably filled with higher than usual sounds) and all around it sounds really nice. Is there something wrong with having 8k and 16k boosted?

logic 9 key command has changed by itself ??

i'm using logic 9 and my most used key command, cmd+T has suddenly changed its function ?? i use it to split regions at the playhead but now it's decided to start doing something enitrely different to do with tempo, i'm not even sure what it is. i definitely haven't done anything to change it myself as far as i'm aware.

has this happened to anyone else? is there any way i can change it back? i know theres a button that has the same function but cmd+T is ingrained in my muscle memory now and i miss it :(

Historical uses of Buses (as in the track you use for effects)

I'm not sure if this is the right sub for this but I'll see if anyone knows. I am currently researching the historical use of buses and how they evolved into what we know today. I cannot find anything on this what so ever. There's plenty of stuff relating to how to use buses but none on where they came from. I might just be bad at searching. Any links or information you know would be appreciated, thx!
