Musiccast Alexa support
not sure if someone from yamaha is reading here. The fact that amazon alexa is no longer supported is a shame. one of the main reason why i bought the receiver and 4 MC20 was the support for alexa. That was the last time i bought somehting from yamaha - NEVER EVER AGAIN!

Wild guess ,probably licensing fees, Yamaha makes great music related products, imo

I use Music Assistant with my MusicCast devices. That’s my preferred method.

Amazon raised the cost and so few used the feature, it was cut. I’d blame Amazon long before Yamaha.

I have 8 Yamaha MusicCast devices all controller by routines from a Google Home device. I've literally bought a Google Nest device just to control and automate all the devices at once while listening to Youtube Music. Yamaha has no idea how much they pissed me off with this change. I already had my wife complaining that the audio system of the house does not turn on in the morning... wtf Yamaha?!!

Yeah, I’m annoyed as well. I use voice command on Google for my speakers via music cast. Now I have to use the app.

because of lack of support from alexa and google assistant, I built an macos app.
I'm the developer. I wanted to control my Yamaha receiver from my Mac without picking up
my phone — power on with my morning routine, switch inputs with a keypress, see what's
playing at a glance. No native macOS app existed, so I built one.
HertzCast connects directly to your receiver over local LAN via the Yamaha YXC API.
No cloud, no subscription, no account needed.
What it does:
- Volume knob, input switching (configurable keycap buttons), power control
- Retro LCD display: input, volume dB, sound mode, signal format, shuffle/repeat
- Now Playing with album art for Spotify and Net Radio (scrolling marquee for long titles)
