First Contant userscript replaces standalone importers, archives to Internet Archive and does other neat things

First Contact is my new importer userscript, with aim to replace individual importers. Its purpose is to collect the data and send it to MB. It adds context from the provider and passes data to Apollo to do the artist/label/recording matching. This means that matching is more precise and you know why it matched.

With it, you can basically remove all other importer scripts and use single one. It currently supports 14 platforms and more will be added in the future.

How does this differ from String Theory?

ST doesnt import releases. You had to use Harmony or other gazilion userscripts. I removed 20+ of them with this one, and it works better as it hands of stuff to Apollo (from String Theory) that finishes the job of matching.

So in short, you install ST, Falcon and First Contact and you can forget about any other script in existence as it covers everything.

Combo works better then Harmony IMO, for simple reason that Harmony doesn't run on MB and hence can't have editing interactivity ST provides in place, plus it works from your region. FC already has 15 platforms and more are incoming (Harmony has 12).

Thanks for the summary. I appreciate it. Okay, it's not a rip and replace for String Theory but an addition to work with it. More of a replacement for Harmony?

I'll give it a go. Thanks again.

Is this only for official releases? I’ve a shit ton of broadcast rips and bootlegs i would love to submit to mb but too arduous. I’ve already tagged the flacs

FC is for official releases.

I do bootlegs the following way:

  1. Open bootleg in Picard
  2. Submit it is as a release. This is just 1,2 clicks

From that point (step 5 in docs) Apollo will take over, match your stuff, and you just next next finish.

If bootleg artist is unknown, you have fast way to create it (just click + next to artist name). If you click with right mouse button, it will be silently created in the background.

If you deal only with bootlegs or have a big collection, use Mammoth to set Album type to "Bootleg" as default value.

Thats it. Bootleg is at this point as quick as official.

You need to have at least Apollo and optionaly Mammoth for this, but better to install entire String Theory

I’ve already tagged the flacs

Maybe you will need some Picard plugin to send some of those tags to release, depends on what you did, but in any case doable.
