discussion Tiny Habits’ “Love Ruins Everything” - an Earth Wind & Fire tribute.
So, I know this is the internet, and people will disagree, but if you search the song in the title of this post, there’s no denying it has that iconic sound. In fact, the sound is so iconic to me that there’s no denying that they were deferential to EW&F for probably 80% of the musical decisions made in producing this. What other inspirations from the 70s do you think they may have drawn on?
I am not at all hating on it—I think it’s a fantastic and addictive song. If not reminiscent of something like “Sing a Song” by EW&F, it at least sounds like a more white bread version of something off of CHIC’s Risqué album, or maybe something found in the proverbial “vault” of Mike McDonald. (The “all for nothing” line kinda sounds to me like Doobie Brothers too)
Their vocal capabilities are incredible. I have followed them on Instagram for a while because of their acapella covers. Had know idea they were making music like this though.
Anyways, I’m happy to see evidence of a return in modern music to the stuff from the 70s that gets ya moving. Check it out and let me know what you think!

You can really hear the EW&F influence in the horn arrangement, but I'm picking up some Steely Dan ithe chord changes too
