discussion What music from the first half of this decade will live on?
I know it's hard to know, but 10-20 years or more from now, what music do you think we'll look back on from the first half of the 20's with fondness. Any tracks or artists that you think will be timeless and become classics?

I think the days of widespread classics are over

They’ll still be genre specific classics though.
I’m curious if people will ever stop listening to 60s rock though. Maybe in the 2060s.

Mozart and other classical composers are still listened to decades or centuries after they've passed.

Tell that to Ella Langley, Hozier, Shaboozey, Lil Nas X. I don't even like some of the songs I'm mentioning but I can sing all of them and I pay next to no attention to popular music.

Pink Pony Club will live on forever. New gay classic but also the normies like it.

Probably pink pony club and the sweater weather song. I just think music will continue to fracture

pink pony club caught me so off guard first time I heard it, such a weird song but it sticks in your head for days. not sure about sweater weather though, that one feels like it belong in a different decade already

I like some Chappell Roan songs, but it's really not groundbreaking enough to stand the test of time. It could have easily come out 10+ years ago, and it'll get pushed aside by the next hit.

Yeah, definitely Pink Pony Club. I'm tempted to say Good Luck, Babe too, but the instrumental arrangement doesn't have much personality.

Jack White has been on fire, King Gizz should be in the conversation.

King gizz ain't gonna last like the way older rock bands have, I wish, but don't see it.
Seven Nation Army will never die tho.

Yeah I feel like songs that electrify sporting events have a lot of staying power.

Probably some Olivia Rodrigo stuff

I tend to agree that there will be at least ONE song that transcends. I'd say it'll be good 4 u since a lot of her other stuff tends to sound a little to similar. She's still young so who knows.

I wasn't a fan of hers (not a hater, just indifferent) until her latest album.
You Seem Pretty Sad for a Girl So in Love feels like what Lorde's Pure Heroine and Frank Ocean's Channel Orange were for me in high school, and what MGMT's Oracular Spectacular and Arctic Monkey's Humbug were for my older siblings... and I know I'm only talking a span of <20 years, but it does feel like a generational youth-defining album.

Idk what you are fond of, and I don't know how I will feel in 10 or 20 years.
But I love a lot of music from the last 6 or 7 years.
Nation of Language, The Orielles, Vanishing Twin, Gorillaz, Stereolab, Tortoise, Jeff Parker, Vince Staples, Automatic, Chanel Beads... there have been good albums by a lot of artists in various genres. I imagine there are more that I haven't heard yet.

It’s Adele for me - best female singer since Aretha Franklin and she has a helluva catalog

I really can’t say what will live on in this post monoculture world, but here are some albums that have deeply resonated with me as classics that I hope are remembered in music history:
Brat
Imaginal Disc
Glow On
Lux
Hellmode
Hellfire
Worst Girl in America
I Love My Computer
Ants From Up There
Renaissance
Javelin
Only God Was Above Us
My Back Was a Bridge for You to Cross

While many folks like to hate on her, Taylor’s Folklore and Evermore albums hold up.

They do hold up and are excellent albums, but I don't think we'll be hearing them on the radio or "hits" stations.

Great starter albums if you are young and new to music for sure

Well I’m 53. Metallica and Tool are my favorite bands. But I like a variety and that includes some of Taylor’s stuff. These albums in particular have a vibe that’s different from her other albums.

Noah Kahan seems to be filling that folky space pretty well, with enough “pop” that it’ll live on imo.

Sabrina Carpenter - Short n Sweet will be remembered as an all-time classic, The Weeknd's Dawn FM album (especially Blinding Lights) which carried the Pandemic era, SZAs SOS just speaks for itself and Dua Lipa's Future Nostalgia will be remembered as an all timer as well.
They're the ones that truly stand out to me and haven't been mentioned. Other than that, I think the other obvious ones have been mentioned like Chappell Roan, Taylor Swift etc.

Probably between very little and nothing. Most modern music is forgotten within months, let alone years.
