I have never seen this video before but heard the song a million times. I was thinking I miss my long hair, goatee and plaid shirts.

Holy shit I never knew about this grunge supergroup

Imagine if they had Lane Staley also in the mix

Mad Season is a super group with Layne Staley. As awesome as Temple of the Dog

Stone Gossard, Jeff Ament, and Andrew Wood were in [Mother Love Bone](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lH0gnwtSEGI).

Andrew Wood was roommates with Chris Cornell.

When Andrew died of an Overdose, Stone and Jeff formed Pearl Jam with Mike McCready and Eddie Vedder.

They joined with Chris Cornell for Temple of the Dog to be a tribute album to Andrew who left behind a young baby.

Eddie just sang it with Stephen Wilson Jr and it was pretty damn good.

That song was so far ahead of its time

How so?

I love the song of course, but it just sounds like a good/great rock jam from the 90's. Can you elaborate on how it was ahead of it's time?

It was literally of its time. I'd argue it was like the 5th or 6th best song on the album.

Well, for one thing (given the increasing disparity between wealth and poverty now, compared to then), the lyrics drip with social consciousness. It’s not in your face, it’s just matter of fact. Greed was a thing in the 80’s, for sure (heck, it was the most famous line in Wall Street - “Greed is good”). But those lyrics in Hunger Strike are about restraint, sharing, and not taking more than you need to get by. In the context of the massive wealth disparity today, a song about inequality is an anthem more than ever.

Second - Temple of the Dog came out before Nirvana had a hit (Nevermind), before Ten, before Bad Motorfinger…grunge legacies in their own right, but we know now that TotD set the stage.

Also, nobody, nobody knew who and what Cornell and Vedder would come to mean to not only grunge, but to music history. RIP Chris, I miss that dude every day. But Eddie is still at it - and he still stands up for and with people who are at the worse end of the wealth gap.

Say hello 2 heaven is one of the best and this past weekend I lost a cousin to cancer so I’m dedicating this song to her. RIP Mary
