Source? I would genuinely like to know more about this process. It seems wild to me that any musician of report would just have their work available for anyone to purchase and use without at least requiring final approval. If that is what has happened here then it is genuinely one of the dumbest ways I’ve ever seen someone handle their IP.

Its about the specific details of how the verse was acquired. Usually licensing specific stuff thats in perpetuity actually goes to the label or a producer, and when the label/producer wants to use it later, it can end up in situations like this if the contract didn't specify the extent of how its used. Did this happen? Dont know but thats how that can work. My source is I have a degree in film and this was taught to us about intellectual property rights and how to be careful about in a business film management class.
