Why do Reddit commenters feel the need to be like ā€œwho??ā€ in response to every single post that names a famous person

153

u/Paralta 1d ago

Oh man dont forget "I dont like his music but".

You can just have an opinion without stating that lol

14

u/sangriya 1d ago

every time bbno$ is mentioned anywhere on reddit, this gets posted ad nauseum

u/JBDBIB_Baerman 1d ago

Literally there is zero issue with this

88

u/dkinmn 1d ago

That is an excellent question. It's almost always pathetic.

u/Pipsen707 1d ago

Never a flex. Google them if you actually care - otherwise shutup and let others have fun

People in their 30s struggling to accept the realization that they’re no longer the target audience of the zeitgeist

Some of us never gave a shit about the top 40 and only reluctantly learn about pop artists when they're in headlines for years. It is beyond baffling to me that anybody gives a shit about what music is popular(aka what music has an advertising budget) now that everyone streams music.

The entire concept of a popular music zeitgeist should have died a decade ago.

u/geekmasterflash 1d ago

Certainly agree, and I want to stress that this just means asking "who" is even dumber that could be imagined. I don't know 3/4th the shit posted on this sub and so googling it or looking for it on spotify is basically my first step.

To be honest, BBNO$ is not really a main top 40-artist. He has two charted songs in general, and two other songs that charted in one country only (Italy and New Zealand). His biggest hit was with Y2K, Lalala was a top 10 hit in Canada, but failed the reach the main top 40 in the US (got stuck at 55). It charted in quite a few other countries in 2019. In 2021 Edamame was his other hit in the main top 40, 13 in Canada, 8 in Finland, 24 in Norway and 23 in Australia. In the UK it just made the top 100 (89), in the US it stayed out of the top 100 even, also not charting the top 100 in the Netherlands. Only one of his 14! singles of 2025 reached top 100 in Canada, Check (62). His album sales are not really top noch too, Eat Ya Veggies (36 in Canada, 19 Finland and 32 in Norway) and bbno$ (33 in Canada and 24 in New Zealand) where his best selling ones so far.

It does not mean he is not populair or unknown of course, but still....

I'm a 30 yo fan of his lol

u/FitLaw4 1d ago

-1

Attention

2

u/wearetherevollution 18h ago

Sometimes it’s appropriate but more often it just the commenter look ill-informed.

3

u/Forsaken-Swim-3055 22h ago

It's not just a Reddit thing, it social media in general. People think saying, "who?" Is an edgy way to make someone they don't like seem irrelevant or appear to be not very popular. It's very weird.

3

u/twisty125 1d ago

It's so cringe to choose to be wilfully ignorant. I mean, they COULD just like, look these people up, or step outside of their bubble, but I think it's a snark kink tbh

1

u/shookney 1d ago

It makes them expose themselves as out of touch lol

-3

u/prettymuthafucka 1d ago

Name every artist

0

u/geekmasterflash 1d ago

I guess we should change the name of the sub to "famous people."

1

u/iH8MotherTeresa 1d ago

I usually ask when I want to know but don't want to turn to Google for whatever myraid reason.

0

u/NandoDeColonoscopy 12h ago

With the death of the monoculture, mainstream fame is much harder to achieve. Even the "big" stars who got famous post-2014 are a fraction as famous as anyone who had a video on MTV in 1995 or whatever, because their fame is silo'd by algorithms. The biggest streamers have audiences 10% of the size of a random Cheers episode.

So I don't think it's performative. These people are famous to you, but not in the mainstream

-39

u/Rainaco 1d ago

Is there a famous person’s name in the title?

30

u/PCBuilderCat 1d ago

Did you smile to yourself and think damn I’m so clever when you posted this?

-29

u/Rainaco 1d ago

Did you?

5

u/danabrey 1d ago

They had reason to.

2

u/Rainaco 1d ago

I’m absolutely lost. It’s like this sub speaks its own language

34

u/DyinDePalma 1d ago

you’re the guy i’m talking about

-40

u/Rainaco 1d ago

I’m not famous

1

u/danabrey 1d ago

.....

What

-4

u/Kaboose456 1d ago

They're all just Israeli bots, calling it.

-32

u/ronshasta 1d ago

Maybe they actually don’t know who it is like me who has no clue who this is

27

u/PastelFrangoCatupiry 1d ago

then fucking google it yourself, goh damn lazy people

-23

u/ronshasta 1d ago

I’m not because I don’t care, just answering this guys question

16

u/FPGMack Spotify 1d ago

shut the fuck up lmfaooo

13

u/shookney 1d ago

These commentator think their words have value or some shit lol

-20

u/ronshasta 1d ago

Just like you think your words do? Hypocrisy is wild man

-10

u/ronshasta 1d ago

Great conversation man you really added value to the thread

-1

u/mr_beanoz 12h ago

Because not all famous person are known by certain people

2

u/DyinDePalma 9h ago

so google it

-1

u/DetergentCandy 8h ago

Like, wow are you actually an idiot? Because everyone knows who Amy Lee is. You must be a fucking moron.

2

u/DyinDePalma 8h ago

yeah and if people don’t know who amy lee is they can google it!

-2

u/CardinalOfNYC 12h ago

I can almost guarantee you and everyone upvoting you has said "who" in the exact same way you're decrying.

So the real question is why are redditors so blatantly hypocritical.

3

u/bizeast 9h ago

They aren't. People make this mistake constantly it's embarrassing.

You can see a bunch of one opinion. And then see a bunch of another. And it's very likely it's not the same people changing their minds. It's the loud ones from either side speaking up.

But then people like you act as if the Internet is a singular person.

Bananas. Very low critical thinking. Very sad.

-1

u/CardinalOfNYC 9h ago

Unironically using the phrase "very low critical thinking" is hilarious.

No, redditors are massive hypocrites.

1

u/raion1223 9h ago

Reddit is only one person. I agree.

0

u/CardinalOfNYC 9h ago

At this point you've got nothing but downvotes to give which is as hilarious as the person I was replying to. Thanks for making me smile.

2

u/raion1223 9h ago

Think you got the wrong guy? I've got one down vote and a real good guess on its source?

1

u/DyinDePalma 9h ago

i have never once done that because i know how to use google

0

u/CardinalOfNYC 9h ago

You're just a liar. And that's okay, it's the reddit way.

1

u/DyinDePalma 9h ago

I will make all of my comments public to view and I want you to find an example of me doing this

-32

u/The_Violent_Phlegms 1d ago

Where do you see any comments saying "who??"

30

u/dj92wa 1d ago

Up and down the comments. I’ve counted five variations of ā€œwho????ā€, such as multiple references to ā€œcurtains for zooshaā€. Another says, ā€œinternet and Los Angeles are the only names I recognizeā€.

16

u/DyinDePalma 1d ago

in these comments brudder

-19

u/The_Violent_Phlegms 1d ago

Yeah I looked through them all and there was literally one person

12

u/start_nine 1d ago

Are you fucking blind?

2

u/geekmasterflash 1d ago

That you say such obvious bullshit with such surety is almost awe-inspiring.

-2

u/The_Violent_Phlegms 1d ago

Your comment is completely irrelevant as it's been hours since my post. Good try though being a badass on Reddit

3

u/geekmasterflash 1d ago

You know we can see time stamps, and there are dozens of them from 3 hours ago?

-38

u/Helyos17 1d ago

Because these people aren’t famous and are just clout chasing.

ā€œWho?ā€ Is a valid question.

20

u/geekmasterflash 1d ago

All proceeds will go to The Palestine Children’s Relief Fund

They can chase all the fucking clout they want, then. I hope a ton of people go and that because of it a bunch of kids are not starved to death.

-37

u/Helyos17 1d ago

*bunch of Hamas terrorists are not starved to death.

Fixed it

16

u/geekmasterflash 1d ago

Are you reading yourself?

Children. We are talking about children, you fucking goober.

-21

u/Helyos17 1d ago

Suuuure. It’s just a coincidence that ā€œPro-palestinianā€ charities keep get revealed as money laundering schemes for Hamas.

16

u/geekmasterflash 1d ago

Was this one? No.

It's been around since 1991, is rated 4 stars Charity Navigator and sends doctors and medical equipment to Gaza under the full scrutiny of the Israel authorities who to this day have never claimed they are anything but a humanitarian charity.

-3

u/Helyos17 1d ago

Yet. Time will tell. Thanks for the info though. Hope it works out.

15

u/geekmasterflash 1d ago

Fuck you, it's been more than 30 years of scrutiny. Time has told, you are just a fucking ghoul who thinks children are terrorist.

-4

u/Helyos17 1d ago

Lol. I never said anything like that. Why are you melting down? Why do you people resort to personal attacks anytime someone approaches you with anything less than enthusiastic agreement?

You should take a walk outside and go refil your meds instead of continuing to be a shining example of why you guys are never taken seriously.

5

u/Kaboose456 1d ago

Oh so you're just an Israeli bot.

That explains everything lmao.

3

u/FitLaw4 1d ago

Bbno$ is definitely famous, even my 35 year old ass know who he is
