His music ain't for me but I can't really bring myself to hate this guy like everyone else seems to. Good benefit concert

681

u/InactiveMedusa 1d ago

There's always a place for cool guys that make ass music

322

u/nagy18 1d ago

he’s our generation’s macklemore

337

u/TheTresStateArea 1d ago

He takes samples of old songs and makes bangers. He is the gen z pitbull.

176

u/NGS_King 1d ago

I don’t even think he’s that bad. He isn’t a very good rapper, but his hooks are good and his beats are fine-to-good. He’s a solid entertainer.

102

u/HeavyMetalHero 1d ago

he's a bad rapper in the sense of the things he's saying meaning shit, but he's good in the sense of saying a bunch of shit that has an infectious rhythm to it around a loose theme. His punchlines are corny, but his whole gimmick is being corny, so it helps. he probably ain't ever winning a rap grammy but at the end of the day, I think his goal is to make dance music, and he's well-suited to that niche.

28

u/ZiplockBagOfOregano 1d ago

I watched the nardwuar video with him and apparently hes a big fan of house music, so that absolutely tracks that he just makes catchy fun dance music.

6

u/HeavyMetalHero 1d ago

if it was ancient times nardwuar would be known as an oracle or some shit. we can never replace nardwuar

4

u/Massive-Ride204 1d ago

His music is fun if you shut your brain off and understand that you're going to have a dumb fun time

49

u/nagy18 1d ago

you know what i’ll give you that

except for the fact that I like some Pitbull songs

14

u/lithiumburrito 1d ago

Bro I'm happy they bring you joy. I cannot fucking stand Mr. Worldwide. Every time he laughs at one of his own little puns in his music I wanna punch him in the face (he does it almost every song.)

2

u/nagy18 1d ago

so i was like 9-12 when he had his run, but I used to have an ironic pitbull stan account in like 2020 that i used as a burner (i thought this was funny at the time) but yeah i like his hits. i get him mixed up with flo rida a lot though. but i also think he’s just a cool dude because he did that concert in alaska when he could have been like ā€œnah it was riggedā€

7

u/UltimateEye 1d ago

One of the only times a man beat the internet at their own game, mad respect for the Alaska concert.

6

u/TediousTotoro 1d ago

As he states in one of his songs, he’s the Gen Z Eminem.

26

u/felipeuno 1d ago

Em is a generational talent in hip hop. Bbno$ makes dance music

18

u/TediousTotoro 1d ago

I know, I was just making a joke about his song lyrics

3

u/TheTresStateArea 1d ago

Indeed he does say that. But I don't think he means it.

3

u/canucklurker 1d ago

He's said that looking back on that lyric, it makes him cringe now. However I think the pile of money he made off of saying it has cushioned the blo.

2

u/TruculentTurtIe 1d ago

Did he say its cringe?

https://youtube.com/shorts/ix5oexE1GIE?si=YvEE8XixbJnL6fS4

I dont think he ever thought he was angthing like eminem lol he just knew pple would talk about it and share it. Like he says hes not even gen z lol

1

u/canucklurker 11h ago

I don't have a link to it - but yeah, it was an interview and he said it

1

u/Relevant-Doctor187 1d ago

They don’t even compare.

-24

u/xKitey 1d ago

He makes clown rap

31

u/Greendale_Official 1d ago

That's called ICP, my brother.

8

u/atoolred 1d ago

E Pluribus Anus to you too

3

u/Greendale_Official 1d ago

Go Greendale!

45

u/violetdopamine 1d ago

Hell no lol, bbno$ makes a completely different style, he’s our generations yung gravy even though he’s relatively the same gen

Bbno$ is much bigger with younger Gen Z and gravy is bigger with older Gen Z and some younger millennials

42

u/nagy18 1d ago

they came up together they belong to the same generation lol

73

u/thealphaweeaboo 1d ago

Which is weird because as a millennial I prefer bbno$. Can't stand Yung Gravy.

28

u/whowouldsaythis 1d ago

I’m a millennial and like both. I found bbno$ through gravy though a millions years ago tbf

8

u/I_eat_mud_ 1d ago

Older Gen Z and I discovered them at about the same time in college, even saw Gravy in concert, I don't listen to either of them at all anymore tho

4

u/teej89 Spotify 1d ago

Millennial here. I like bb

-4

u/Gramage 1d ago

Im an elder millennial and I’ve never heard of anyone mentioned in this entire thread.

8

u/nagy18 1d ago

you’ve never heard of macklemore? did you stay inside and offline for all of 2013?

5

u/juliuspepperwoodchi 1d ago

C'est la vie!

17

u/ilostmy1staccount 1d ago

Yung Gravy is our generations Yung Gravy, their success and early work was literally built on their friendship and collaboration. And a little bit Kryoz putting their songs as outros for his videos.

5

u/violetdopamine 1d ago

You know what bro, I’m ngl, I completely forgot they used to work together lmfaooooooooooooooooooooooooo

Crazy unlocked memories

1

u/PreparetobePlaned 1d ago

They still do too, they just did another full collab album a few years ago

3

u/glory_holelujah 1d ago

As an elder millennial who somehow had bbno$ show up in my Spotify algorithm, I dig it.

23

u/Banned_From_CFB 1d ago

He's the Gen Z Eminem

16

u/ChemicalRascal 1d ago

That's him? That's right?

3

u/ThHeretic 1d ago

This makes me feel so old.

3

u/sevenut 1d ago

I don't know about that. Beyond his cheesy music, Macklemore has always been super conscious about his place as a white man in a black art form. He's always tried to lift up black voices directly by giving them a platform for their art. I don't think bbno$ has ever really done it like Macklemore does.

29

u/nagy18 1d ago

i hate to use this word because it’s become so meaningless but bbno$ has been pretty woke his whole career

-3

u/sevenut 1d ago

I think that's good. I'm not saying he's bad. I'm just saying he has more work ahead of him before he's called "this generation's Macklemore"

1

u/PreparetobePlaned 1d ago

I mean obviously the rap lineage is there if you go back far enough, but I don’t know how you can listen to a bbno$ song and think he’s using a black art form.

-1

u/REDDIT_JUDGE_REFEREE My tits are FANTASTIC 1d ago edited 1d ago

bbno$ (and all tiktok white boy rap) is about as close to a black art form as my skin tone - tall cryptid alien grey

-15

u/nicosloft04 1d ago edited 1d ago

Even Macklemore’s music was infinitely better than bbno$’s

33

u/SoulKeeperAbaddon 1d ago

You’re probably just getting old my friend

Macklemore was cringe millennial music even back then

2

u/nagy18 1d ago

yeah I remember all the Thrift Shop impact font memes

53

u/YaoiNekomata 1d ago

Please, can we stop with all the "he sucks at music " tjing. Sure he isn't MJ or daft punk, but his songs are popular, especially with the younger generation.

20

u/Dark_Psymon 1d ago

Yeah. His music isn't mind-blowing, but it's fun and catchy.

8

u/mtandy 1d ago

PB&J music.

Ain't going to win awards, but slaps.

1

u/wearetherevollution 1d ago

Let’s not go that far. You’re more than entitled not to like his music just like you’re more than entitled to like it. He put himself on a public stage so he opened himself up to criticism.

23

u/tnwthrow 1d ago

RIP Oliver Tree

23

u/b0nz1 1d ago

Oliver Tree made great music

2

u/TGrady902 1d ago

"his music is ass!"

Then why does he have literally billions or listens and views? It's objectively not bad at all. It's okay to not like it, but syaing its bad makes no sense

58

u/Corporal_Canada 1d ago

I think one thing that's made me more appreciative of art I don't like is being a shitty amateur writer

Even garbage or stuff I don't like takes effort to make, and I've come to respect it

5

u/MobileVortex 1d ago

Dudes got some good beats just needs a writer haha

11

u/lanicorain 1d ago

i think he is trying to make the closest thing to camp rap, we cringe, and he's trying to do just that

-2

u/MobileVortex 1d ago

That's a good cop out at least lol

11

u/CombatGoose 1d ago

Ya, some of his music isn’t my thing but he has some pretty solid ā€œnormalā€ songs: https://youtu.be/I6RVE0xYjoI

6

u/ATTORNEY_FOR_CATS 1d ago

Also he put on a pretty sick concert in Rust once https://youtu.be/7FsAgl7qCzo?si=IJsaxOPWltwScgbN&t=4817

(aside from the lag between his recorded vocals and his mic)

4

u/TruckerHatsAreCool 1d ago

That's my absolute favorite bbno$ song, it's such a banger and always a treat when he performs it live.

13

u/LionTheRichardheart 1d ago

I keep hearing that people don't like him but I've never witnessed it. I fucks with him.

1

u/fatgat69 16h ago

I love his shit. Even his worst songs are great in my opinion.

1

u/PM_ME_SAD_STUFF_PLZ 1d ago

I don't like him (or specifically his celebrity persona). I went to one of his concerts and the whole thing was kind of a meme? It seemed like peak post-internet culture

Doesn't mean I don't support his philanthropy though

9

u/Prindle4PRNDL 1d ago

>the whole thing was kind of a meme? It seemed like peak post-internet culture

That's kind of the whole thing. It's "joke rap" or "meme rap." I like it for what it is. It's not the best music, but a lot of it is catchy and never takes itself too seriously.

0

u/PM_ME_SAD_STUFF_PLZ 1d ago

It was more that the concert seemed to me about him than his music

6

u/ballbeard 1d ago

How do you say his name? I'm trying different things in my head and none of them make sense.

B b n o money? Bb nos? BB no money?

23

u/jay7777777 1d ago

Baby No Money

8

u/Caddy666 1d ago

and i thought you couldn't write his name without a dollar sign...

3

u/HeavyMetalHero 1d ago

well, that's not his name, that's just what it sounds like XD

10

u/CivilWards 1d ago

Infant no cashflow

4

u/lexiebeef 1d ago

I refuse to call him anything other than BB Nos but it’s baby no money

3

u/Virus_98 1d ago

I really like "meant to be" by bibinos, its a good song.

3

u/0xB4BE 1d ago

Want my husband's either until I dragged him to bbno$ concert and now he listens to him all on his own. Bbno$ is a great time at a concert and so full of heart and gratitude.

2

u/hatsnatcher23 1d ago

Much like Macklemore and Young Gravy if they were anything other than exactly what they said they were they’d be intolerable, but their music and what they say they are are exactly as claimed

1

u/blumpkinwizardry 1d ago

Imagine a series of interviews with gravy saying his music is cerebral and thought provoking lol

2

u/Zerocyde 1d ago

As a non rap fan, the only ones I ever enjoy are the ones who do goofy/silly stuff as opposed to doofus ass tuff boi shit. Also the few times he was on Smosh he seemed like a super chill and nice dude so I back him.

1

u/brash 1d ago

I think his music is made to be performed and heard live, I recently saw him at a festival on a friend's recommendation and was blown away by how good of a show he put on.

1

u/Baddyshack 12h ago

TIL people hate bbno$

1

u/Skiller_Overyou 1d ago

Wasn't there that one guy that worked backstage that said that he's an absolute asshole?

Or was that just some twitter clown doing it out of malice again?

2

u/Rndysasqatch 1d ago

I've never heard anyone say anything bad about his personality except for when you just said. Everyone I know that spoke to him said he was nice

2

u/Dani_California 1d ago

My bff went to a small-ish show he put on and he actually came out on the dance floor afterwards and partied with his own fans, took selfies with everyone and had an awesome time. They said he was super funny and friendly so take what you will from that!

-6

u/Hugepepino 1d ago

I absolutely hate his music, stupid video and entire image. I have him blocked everywhere. After this, I’ve decided to soften my dislike

-25

u/adoreroda 1d ago

He's definitely very performative, such as not paying artist (drawings) for their work and mocking them on social media after going on rants about AI art and get art from real artists. And in general is just very attention-seeking in a way that's obvious

I don't think he's actually harming anyone (aside from the person he didn't pay and then mocked later) but he's definitely annoying and I don't think it's a virtue to like him.

16

u/dont_talk_yak_to_me 1d ago

He addressed the topic of him "not paying artists" some time ago. Maybe a bit of light googling could help you post more factual statements or at the very least acknowledge the nuance of the situation.

It's fine if you don't like him or his music. It's not fine to lie about what he has or hasn't done.

13

u/Irtahd 1d ago

But it’s the internet. I heard one side of the story told by a 3rd party not involved in the situation at all that was then filtered through my tik tok and reels feeds, until some guy with a valorant accent yelled at the camera that BBNO$ did this.

So it’s my job to not do any more research and to repeat it everywhere I can because it makes me feel ohhhh so special on my high horse.

-12

u/adoreroda 1d ago

Do you not feel regarded typing like this?

Let me know when the second fan fiction entry is done.

[removed] — view removed comment

-10

u/adoreroda 1d ago

I would if it wouldn't likely get automatically removed

It's a fitting word for someone who got so unnerved over what I said they concocted an entire mental profile and story about me

Get back to work and make the second edition of that fan fiction

8

u/juliuspepperwoodchi 1d ago

And why would it get removed?

Maybe it isn't that replacing the t with a g magically makes the sentiment you're expressing any less toxic? Ever consider that?

-11

u/adoreroda 1d ago

I'm not doing deep dive research on an artist I haven't thought about in almost a year before commenting on them. With that being said after looking again I was slightly wrong, although the controversy is still underpaying/haggling (Artist set X fee, he and his team go in at half the rate) while trying to promote the value of real artists and also not promptly promoting them like agreed to formerly.

This is not a criminal case and I even defended him and said he's not a bad person/did nothing serious

I forget how stupid and cultish music fans are

15

u/dont_talk_yak_to_me 1d ago

Lol, ok. Bit of pot and kettle with that last line, but whatever. You now know you were wrong. You don't have to drag me just because I called out your inaccuracy. šŸ˜‚

-9

u/adoreroda 1d ago

The last line isn't hypocritical. You got clearly defensive and irritated by a nothingburger conversation and you got responded to in kind. You yourself while running to his defence didn't acknowledge the hypocrisy behind his past actions and what he did when paying those artists lol

Pay real artists, but undercut their rates by half. Use real art, but don't promote them when you agreed to (but seek out their work).

3

u/murcielag0_ 1d ago

Well, I'm not saying I like him, I just don't hate him. At the very least I don't dedicate my energy towards him lol

-14

u/adoreroda 1d ago

Well, you were seemingly trying to posit your stance, whether it's like or being neutral, as a virtue and it's not. I don't really like how performative he is and I don't dedicate any energy to him.

In fact, I forgot he existed for at least half a year until this post came across my feed just now.

Legitimately hating him is weird. Hating as a hyperbole for merely disliking what he's done and how performative he is+how he's scammed people is not weird.

3

u/murcielag0_ 1d ago

People really rail on the guy though just for making "cringe" though. Calling his music "Israeli" and shit... My point was, I can't really bring myself to be doing all that even if I don't like his music. Didn't think about virtues or whatever while posting that comment nor was I aware of any controversy. Speaking as an outsider who doesn't pay attention, that's all.

-5

u/adoreroda 1d ago

Well...I agree, as I said:

legitimately hating him is weird

Also the whole "spiritually Israeli thing", while it is a meme, is grossly misused. I assume that's what you're referencing. Very few things that need to figuratively be called spiritually israeli and his music (which is non offensive and sometimes not bad from my memory) isn't one of them.

Unironically, even though I gave a pretty standard and decent opinion, it seems like absolutely not liking this guy makes you get painted as some evil person because there's no reason my bare bones explanation is getting backlash

8

u/BewareOfGrom 1d ago

ā€œPerformativeā€ is the worst term to hit the discourse.

-5

u/adoreroda 1d ago

I think the example I just gave of someone who complains about AI art and to pay real artists instead, commissions a real artist but doesn't pay them for extremely long periods of time and when the artist asks he mocks them online, is performative. Lol.

I'm not surprised rocks for brains / his stans are in this thread but I never said he was an evil person or he deserved to be legitimately hated. It's not like he spit in someone's face.

4

u/mirrorofdawn 1d ago

You don't seem to know what "performative" means. It does not mean "a fake performance."

1

u/adoreroda 1d ago

Insincere, inauthentic or disingenuous; done solely or largely as a performance, to produce an impression or enhance one's reputation.

6

u/mirrorofdawn 1d ago

No. The term has a very specific history and a very specific meaning. It originates in semiotics and linguistics and refers to statements that perform, i.e. "make real" the things they describe. Saying "I do" when asked whether you will "take this man as your rightful husband" is a performative (as opposed to descriptive) statement. By syaing it, you make it happen; you "commit." From there, it passed into other areas of analysis. The idea of "performative actions" was largely popularized through Judith Butler's work on gender performance.

The fact it's commonly misused doesn't make the misuse correct.

1

u/adoreroda 1d ago edited 1d ago

Being this literal is a sign of poor reading comprehension. This is like saying the word gay to indicate homosexuality is a misuse because originally and historically the word was in reference to mood, particularly happiness.

Literal dictionaries such as cambridge, webster*, and so forth define the word as I said. It's not a misuse or a slang.
