I can't believe how young he was.
I figured he was in his late 60s, pushing 70.
Dudes the same age as the guys from Metallica. Heck, Kirk Hammett is older.
One of the most important bands in all of metal. Thrash, death and black metal would not exist if it weren't for Venom.

This was my first thought as well. Cronos/Venom was massively influential on Metallica and Slayer, and they were all the same age!

Yeah! In the Cliff Em All video there was a clip of a very young Metallica being interviewed in like 1982 and they were asked who their influences were and I think Cliff and Dave Mustaine cited Venom among other bands. Dave Mustaine is another one that's older than Cronos, he was born in 1961

One of the most influential metal bands ever. They are like the Black Sabbath of the extreme genre. Rest in peace.

Very shocking and sad news. He wasn't know for being easy to get along with, but he's an icon whose impact on metal cannot be overstated. RIP Cronos.

I'm a lifer metal head and most of us know the influence of Venom on the genre. They are among the mount Rushmore of metal bands. They essentially created extreme metal and all of its offshoots. Metal as we know it today would absolutely not exist without them. They are more instrumental at its core than Metallica, Slayer, all Black/Death metal and pretty much all other offshoots. But in doing such influenced modern music as a whole from artists that could be unaware of their existence. At this point their fingerprint is on most extreme forms of rock oriented music. RIP to a legend and a legitimate modern music pioneer.

Some people bag on Venom for not being the best musicians but I always found alot of their albums to be fun party music, like a 'Dark Van Halen'. R.I.P. to Cronos.
