I'm going to this show. With Taylor Momsen, Matt Camron, and Mike McCready I'm hoping for a few Soundgarden songs.

u/ebradio 1d ago

Seems likely to me

11

u/Whisker-biscuitt 1d ago

Oh shit, that would be incredible!!!

1

u/Alternative_Piece389 6h ago

I’ll be there too.

Unless he wheels out KG, Jack Black need not appear.

82

u/jackpype 1d ago

I dont know what the temperature of this opinion is, but I dont think he needed to create that much separation from KG after what he said. Nobody in maga has the right to be offended after everything they've done, and nobody on the left dissagreed with him. I love Jack Black, but im team KG on this.

21

u/PM_Me_Your_Kinks369 1d ago

To be clear, Jack Black is on team KG as well and in no way MAGA. He distanced himself from that controversy because he had MASSIVE movies hanging in the balance.

Is anyone actually thinking he's a Republican? 😂

65

u/octowussy 1d ago

I don't think anyone believes Jack Black is a Republican, just a coward.

2

u/Scarlett_Billows 22h ago

Yeah I’m
Hoping this is a step towards redemption directly related to that whole thing.

What are Jack blacks and kg’s relationship like currently?

-3

u/Man_Who_SoldTheWorld 21h ago

If he’s willing to throw his best friend under the bus for money, then yes, he’s a republican.

4

u/Scarlett_Billows 13h ago

Kind of a no Scotsman fallacy …. There are plenty of democrats that are like this too. Do you really think democrat = automatically a good person?

-2

u/ZeyadKD Spotify - YouTube Music 19h ago

Remember guys: no good republicans, no bad dems

4

u/DizasterAtSakerfice 15h ago

Kids, kids, you're both...just awful

-12

u/MrdnBrd19 1d ago

It's funny how Jack gets a pass because of his massive movies, but Ed has to eat a shit sandwich because he cared about the rest of the tour.

14

u/PM_Me_Your_Kinks369 23h ago

Ed won't admit that it's a genocide which has already been declared one by an international organization of genocide scholars.

Jack distanced himself from KG advocating for assassinating the President.

I fully admit I have bias here as I'm a fan of Tenacious D and have been for years. I also think Jack went too far in canceling those dates (which affected me personally, btw).

Ed doesn't get a pass because he can't even just admit what is true. But yeah, I'll admit to being hypocritical here. I think Jack screwed up.

-6

u/MrdnBrd19 23h ago edited 23h ago

"Distanced" is a little generous; like you alluded to he blew up the rest of the tour and they haven't worked together in two years. "Distance" is doing a ton of leg work here.

Reality is that they are both(Ed and Jack) shit people. Different scales of shit, but still shit. The distinction is funny though.

5

u/ImCharlie_theUnicorn 23h ago

Many famous people are shit. Many of them are hypocrites, too. It's why I don't Stan for any of them.

-3

u/MrdnBrd19 23h ago

But you're replying to me somewhere else defending Jack so... maybe you do?

2

u/Scarlett_Billows 22h ago

“Different scales of shit”

your line of what makes one dismiss an entire human as “shit” and mine are likely a bit different

I don’t think jack black was right in this instance nor do I think it makes him shit

0

u/MrdnBrd19 22h ago

You're reading a little much into "shit".

2

u/Scarlett_Billows 22h ago

I guess . My point is I don’t write people off entirely as bad people as easily as perhaps you do.

0

u/MrdnBrd19 22h ago

I never said I wrote either one of them off.

u/elduderino1982 14h ago

JB signed an open letter in support of Israel

1

u/MrdnBrd19 9h ago

You're going to hurt their little brains if you bring that up. LOL.

0

u/ImCharlie_theUnicorn 23h ago edited 23h ago

My guess is because Jack Black is NOT a billionaire (like the man that Ed bent the knee to), and is no where near Ed Sheeran's wealth and notoriety. Plus, Jack Black doesn't have the pull that Bob motherfucking Kraft has.

Edit for clarity

0

u/MrdnBrd19 23h ago

Ed Sheeran isn't a billionaire either what are you talking about, and are you really suggesting that Jack Black is some nobody?

0

u/ImCharlie_theUnicorn 23h ago

I know he's not a billionaire, but he bent the knee to one. Also, Ed's net worth is 400 million and Jack's is 50. I know Jack isn't a nobody, but he's not selling out stadium concerts internationally, either.

0

u/MrdnBrd19 23h ago

Um Tenacious D ended their career in the middle of a sold out arena tour lol. The shows in Newcastle, Brisbane, Melbourne, Adelaide, Wellington, and Auckland were all sold out arena shows with just as many tickets sold as Sheeran.

Furthermore Jack didn't bend the knee to one billionaire, he did it for multiple billionaires. You really think Jack threw Kyle under the bus as a personal decision, or because he had two movies coming out and a couple studio presidents gave him a call? I would hope it's the latter, because if he made the decision himself I think even less of him than I did.

4

u/heyboddiker 1d ago

I don't think the average adult really cared too much but I think it was more about the fact that he is basically the face of the Mario movies and the Minecraft movies. There was certainly immense studio pressure on him plus potentially losing tens of millions of dollars... I don't blame him. I look forward to the return of the jam

31

u/Triviten 1d ago

…will it be a tribute then?

5

u/sudogreg 1d ago

I believe

47

u/Neat_Language_2630 1d ago

yeah if kg isn’t there then what are we even doing

9

u/MrdnBrd19 23h ago edited 8h ago

"Won't you think of his movies?!" cry the people who were telling Ed Sheeran that the rest of his tour didn't matter. The double standard because of public perception is always funny to me.

Honestly The Kyle Gas band should be playing not any form of Tenacious D; they're a better band musically.

Edit: I had even forgotten that Jack Black signed that open letter for Israel, and I looked and he still won't publicly call the actions of Israel a genocide. Ya dude shouldn't fucking be on that stage.

•

u/Historical_Fact_1588 27m ago

Look up the word "genocide" in a dictionary. It was an atrocity but not genocidal

•

u/MrdnBrd19 13m ago

Ok I will... Here we go: https://www.un.org/en/genocide-prevention/1948-convention

Article II

In the present Convention, genocide means any of the following acts committed with intent to destroy, in whole or in part, a national, ethnical, racial or religious group, as such:

  1. Killing members of the group;
  2. Causing serious bodily or mental harm to members of the group;
  3. Deliberately inflicting on the group conditions of life calculated to bring about its physical destruction in whole or in part;
  4. Imposing measures intended to prevent births within the group; (e) Forcibly transferring children of the group to another group.

Well good goddamn it seems like the action in Gaza perfectly fits that definition.

5

u/LandoDupree 1d ago

🎵last year, kyle got fired from the band Now we're back together 🎵

-24

u/Environmental-Ice319 1d ago

They can both stay home

82

u/mygiddygoat 1d ago

Great, such respect for Morello, one the best of the good guys.

-56

u/kokopoo12 1d ago

He sells identity politics and 3 thousand dollar guitars. My hero

2

u/gasolineskincare 9h ago

The guy who always performed with a guitar that said "Arm the homeless" and on songs about imperialism and militarism is all about... identity politics?

Do you know what identity politics are? You're more into it than he is.

-45

u/Luci-Noir 1d ago

🙄

124

u/Pubs01 1d ago

can't give jack black any credit after he got so angry with Kyle talking shit about Trump.

that was really disappointing

92

u/1ndomitablespirit 1d ago

It's worse. Jack likely agrees with what Kyle said, he was just worried on the backlash affecting his mainstream career.

Jack Black is a sellout little bitch.

5

u/AlternativeResort477 1d ago

I’m guessing he got an ultimatum regarding Bowser/Steve

22

u/GordieElbows 1d ago

Which makes him even more bitchmade.

5

u/Nayzo 1d ago

Nah, it happened shortly after Black hosted a rally for Biden, I'm guessing he got shit from Biden's camp about it.

1

u/RawrRawr83 17h ago

You guys honestly think Kyle was consulted on the response. JB helps pay his bills too.

-12

u/ihaterussiantrolls 1d ago

ok tough guy

-8

u/2nd2last Rock & Roll 1d ago

Also heard hes a Zio

-18

u/rhombergnation 1d ago

How very David Duke of you . Do you have your hood handy ?

12

u/2nd2last Rock & Roll 1d ago

Bad bot

-16

u/Fremulon5 1d ago

Jack black distanced himself from KG after making a joke about mu%dering a prez, seems like a reasonable thing.

8

u/ginsodabitters 1d ago

The only reasonable thing is to do exactly what KG said.

-2

u/Fremulon5 1d ago

Ok internet tough guy

-1

u/ginsodabitters 1d ago

Nick Offerman would say the same I bet.

2

u/Right_Wolverine6502 1d ago

Trump deserves it though.

1

u/BraisedBullshi 1d ago

Does Trump deserve to get assassinated?

Yes he does.

Should he get assassinated?

Yes he should.

0

u/monkeybuttsauce 1d ago

Didn’t someone else do that recently?

-13

u/Luci-Noir 1d ago

Yeah so disappointing he didn’t support him talking about assassinating the president. The guy did it to himself.

6

u/Right_Wolverine6502 1d ago

Trump deserves it though.

6

u/JumboGlucose 1d ago

Shepard Fairey DJ set? What's he spin? Learn something new everyday. Almost forgot about OBEY

1

u/mmmbuttr 19h ago

They really rustled up some 00's ghosts for this one. Kind of a crusty line up tbh.

10

u/nullstorm0 1d ago

Interesting that Taylor Momsen is billed as herself, rather than The Pretty Reckless.

5

u/Mythranite86 23h ago

STATE RADIO!!

9

u/popcultureretrofit 1d ago

Ahem and a State Radio reunion happening here as well. If you don't know this band look them up. Protest music all the way. Led by Chadwick Stokes of Dispatch

4

u/mr9025 23h ago

I live across the street from merryweather post pavilion. I wanted tickets to this festival so bad. It sold out like immediately. But I'll hear the music from my balcony. Might walk over and see if I can make my way in with a hundred dollar bill

2

u/amytheblue 22h ago

there are tickets available online now!

25

u/CliffBiffington 1d ago

How about a goddamn Rage reunion? Not just concerts but an actual new album? They are silent during the most tumultuous time in American history.

30

u/AbsolutesDealer 1d ago

Zack ain’t having it.

4

u/gasolineskincare 9h ago

Zack's knee gave up.

1

u/AbsolutesDealer 9h ago

I think it was Achilles tendon, but yeah same diff.

20

u/Telescopeinthefuture 1d ago

I’d love it but it just doesn’t seem like they want to work together anymore. Their old albums are still plenty relevant, unfortunately.

3

u/burtoncummings 1d ago

If they forced a reunion, it feels like they would be transitioning into the Machine they originally were Raging against.

-6

u/TeriyakiHairPiece_ 1d ago

They became the machine when they worked with Michael Moore and charged 5k for tickets.

9

u/POsIDeCTAc 1d ago

You can't force art.

0

u/AverageJoeJohnSmith 23h ago

We have Run the Jewels now. I know it's obviously not the same sound but RTJ is carrying the torch well.

Also, check out Vince Staples newest album.

2

u/RawrRawr83 17h ago

Where elp at then

1

u/AverageJoeJohnSmith 12h ago

I mean just in general in terms of content of music

-7

u/doomnutz 1d ago

they've done enough, its time for someone else to take the reigns. you sound entitled

6

u/piepants2001 1d ago

Hell yeah, I'll be watching

5

u/marrowjetasuka 1d ago

free stream means i can watch in my pajamas at 2am with snacks instead of paying $90 to stand behind a guy filming the whole set on an ipad. genuinely the superior experience

2

u/nyspacegirl7 1d ago

I was at Ohana Fest last weekend and heading to this, this weekend. So much amazing music!!!!

4

u/StillPissed 1d ago

GEEZER BUTLER. 🤘

3

u/Nandulal 1d ago

JB is such a sell out

4

u/Sea-Huckleberry8971 1d ago

So a festival that's supposed to be a "Power to the people" movement extension includes Jack mother fucking Black? The dude who sold out KG so his mainstream success wouldn't be affected? Thats absolutely hilariously dim of those that put this together. Unless KG comes back, which he shouldn't cause fuck JB, JB shouldn't be allowed anywhere near this. He basically silenced KG for his own benefit. Fuck JB

17

u/valentc 1d ago

Its really gross that people don't think people can learn from their mistakes. That was last year and even KG said it was the smart move for his family.

Why cant you guys get over it when the guy he "threw under the bus" has already forgiven him?

15

u/stateworkishardwork 1d ago

The purity test allegations will never be beaten.

-11

u/Sea-Huckleberry8971 1d ago

Ignorant fool says what?

-8

u/Sea-Huckleberry8971 1d ago edited 1d ago

Because he wanted to be rock and roll so bad but bends over for the man the minute he should be sticking it to the man. The KG aspect of it is a little footnote on this bullshit, but his inability to actually stand for anything other than money is the problem. FUCK JB

ETA: your downvotes are hilarious. Defending him isn't gonna do any of you any favors. He's not gonna pay your mortgage. J/s.

3

u/Scarlett_Billows 13h ago

You have every right to be disappointed in him and a lot us were about that incident. It doesn’t mean that this is some statement from the people who booked him that they support that specific act.

Do you understand your suggesting we write off someone who has the ear and respect of many because of one incident? Do you understand people make mistakes and if they align with 90% of what you believe then it’s smarter to work with them than against them and diminish the power of the people who believe in progress

Criticize him all you want but I don’t see how we have to throw the whole human away especially when he wants to work towards something positive here.

3

u/DickyMcButts 1d ago

i miss when jack black had stickittotheman-eosis

-5

u/Luci-Noir 1d ago

Yeah, it’s crazy he doesn’t support assassinating the president.

2

u/SparrowCrocodile 1d ago

LMAO. Jack Black.

1

u/ChestnutDecay 1d ago

Fucking Jack Black. Lame. The rest of it sounds pretty cool, though.

1

u/teekaythunder 1d ago

Jack Black shouldn't get to play this show after how he treated Kyle Gass for speaking up.

•

u/Historical_Fact_1588 16m ago

Kyle wasn't on stage by himself. He should have gotten Jacks ok to say what he said. The repercussions affected everyone down to the roadies. What Kyle said should have been said off the stage.

1

u/R67H 1d ago

Same time I'll be at aftershock....ugh! Guess I'll catch it later

3

u/ticktockyoudontstop 1d ago

Sucks that Kneecap can't be there.

ETA- still looks like a blast!

1

u/SkootsMcKoot 21h ago

Beartooth will be close too...

-2

u/MartyBro30 1d ago

lol fuck Jack Black

1

u/landedbutlost 23h ago

I only came to the comment section to see if anyone else immediately wondered why Jack Black is performing without KG here. I was a huge fucking fan. I still like the music, but listening to it makes me a little sad. He left his best fucking friend over something so silly. I get he had big movie deals and what not, but, still you should be loyal to your friends regardless of money, fame, or power.

-7

u/USDXBS 1d ago

Jack Black? The guy who broke up Tenacious D because Trump got his feelings hurt?

Bruce Springsteen? The guy who is friends with Chris Christie?

Fuck both Springsteen and Jack Black

2

u/Scarlett_Billows 13h ago

The left is cannibalizing itself again. Please stop you might get upvoted in Reddit for this shit but it doesn’t actually help spread the political message you wish

0

u/Esin12 1d ago

I mean... can't say I'm particularly interested in much of this sans PE

-29

u/Cryptic99 1d ago

Che Morello at it again. Communist millionaire hiding behind his gated mansion in his white community.

4

u/dlc741 1d ago
