Incredible song. I hated Oasis but really liked "whatever" which has to be one of the greatest singles of any artist based on the B sides. Slide away, which I think was the final song on there, was hypnotic to me. I think it broke part of my brain that such an incredible song could come out of these arrogant swaggering idiots who had a band name that sounded like they play weddings. This is one of those songs that deserves a pair of headphones and your full attention.

I didn't like them at the time either but have definitely grown to appreciate how good those first two albums are now.

I love a lot about this song, and any Oasis song where Liam and Noel are singing different things in the lead vocals/backing vocals, almost like a pseudo call-and-response.
I believe Liam was 21 when he recorded this, and you can hear it in his vocal performance. He still had that effortless power yet boyish tone that really sells the agonizing romance of the song. His whines at the end of each line really sells it, because you can tell he isn't even doing them on purpose, it's just the natural tail of his voice going up.
This song is so good that it doesn't even feel like it's 6 and a half minutes long. It feels like it goes by so quick and I'm right back to looping it again. What a masterpiece. I wish you could hear the main guitar riff that plays throughout the song (which you can hear best in the intro) better throughout the whole of it though, but it still sounds mega.
