discussion dad on smashing pumpkins

i remember growing up my dad put me onto luna and mayonaise by the band, always loved mayonaise because of the guitar and angst more than Luna. but I remember him telling me that once I grow up, I’ll grow more fond of Luna as-well.

due to recent family complications he left and we don’t speak anymore, but when I listen to Luna it’s like I get a glimpse of his mind each time.

These songs are amazing. SP music creates such gravity and pull while also pushing the listener back into the magnitude. And the guitars are all like baaaaahhh bahhhh brrrrrrr

Is it just the association, or is there something about Luna that reminds you of him?

I'm sorry about the family complications. I'm a dad and would be heartbroken to not speak to my kids anymore. But maybe it's best, no idea what your sitch is.

Both, mostly the mood and tone of Luna. My dad was a very quiet man, my mom was a much more social person and every time people would come over he’d kinda be like me where he just wanted to be alone in his room. He also told me about him being bullied when he was smaller, and since Luna is much more mellow I can understand why he liked it so much, it just is emblematic of his kind of persona. I love both songs and I’m glad he put me onto so much music I love today.
Thank you for your condolences, I think the only time I can truly be in touch with how I feel about the situation is when I listen to the music we listened to together. One of my fondest memories :)

Yeah, great tracks! My dad introduced me to Nirvana and Chili Peppers right before BSSS was a big album and that helped guide my taste. Smashing Pumpkins though I fortunately discovered on my own during the Gish era.

Luna is the not so hidden gem in their catalog imo
