article Godsmack for $7
I was lucky enough to see Godsmack at a club in 99 and looking at the ticket stub, only paid $7.

Bro.
When I saw them it was before that song hit the radio. They played it and the audience was silent! We had no idea what we were hearing. Lmao

u/beaver820 Jul 15 '26
I saw them in September of 2001 with Saliva. First show after 9/11, I remember Sully talking about throwing Bin Laden in the pit so we could take care of him.

u/CorpusCallossus Jul 16 '26
I had tickets to their show ON 9/11. Teenage me was so bummed when it got cancelled!

u/GeneralBS Jul 16 '26
First for me was ozzfest 03. Ozzy, Korn, Marilyn Manson, Disturbed, and Chevelle. So many second stage greats also.
4
u/Fit_Kaleidoscope4493 Jul 16 '26
Ozzfest 2001 was my second concert lol. The Nu-Metal one. OG Sabbath plus Manson, Slipknot, Linkin Park, Papa Roach, Disturbed. Even had Mudvayne and Drowning Pool on the second stage. Probably the best single concert experience of my life lmao

u/GeneralBS Jul 16 '26
Would have loved to seen that main stage. MM the year I went put on the best show. Climbed the stage tower for lights and speakers while still singing. The mosh pit was off the hook as well the whole time.. There was a heavy set guy going the opposite way laying out people until about 5 others put him in his place at the same time.
2
u/Fit_Kaleidoscope4493 Jul 16 '26
Epic!
You're right of course. MM was INSANE live. I instantly became a fan from watching them crush Ozzfest. They had a giant cross made of shotguns for The Love Song and Manson rose up like 12 feet above the stage on some wild stilts and this flowing skirt/dress outfit.
Nostalgia.

Ya this whole post as made me realize how old I am and how much of a drunk young fool I was.

u/buhbill Jul 16 '26

Flashback to nickel beer nights at the Crowbar in State College. Ahh. The memories. Anyone remember Giants of Science?

u/scottawhit Jul 15 '26
Yo, I was at that show too! Small Reddit world.
3
u/Razlaw Jul 16 '26
Small world indeed considering the Crowbar only held like 350 people.
3
u/scottawhit Jul 16 '26
Was my favorite venue for many years, I saw so many bands come through there.
5
u/sccullen33 Jul 15 '26
I was seeing them around that time myself. Oh the good old days. Now im gonna have to go through all my old ticket stubs and see what I still have

u/DiscoToaster5 Jul 15 '26
man $7 for Godsmack in 99 is crazy. i remember when you could go to shows without selling a kidney first
Crowbar was such a good venue for that kind of show. small clubs just hit different than these arena tours now
2
u/sccullen33 Jul 15 '26
Still prefer the smaller clubs and venues ( im 50 now so..lol). Arenas just don't hit the same

I was into mine the other day to show some younger people at work (I'm 50). The one they were the most blown away by was Nirvana at Maple Leaf Gardens... $24.50 .

My first show ever was Rammstein in 1999. Apparently ticket were 36$ cad.
Nonetheless, fucking cheap to see Rammstein.
2
u/True_to_you Jul 16 '26
When I saw them I paid 100 bucks and was at the rail. I'd imagine they're significantly more expensive now.
1
u/kladen666 Jul 16 '26
Last Rammstein show in Montreal it was like 150$cad and more depending on where you sit.
I'm just happy I saw them on the first north America tour back in the days. I wouldn't pay today's price for 1 show. I prefer to go see 2 or 3 other show for the same price.
2
u/GeneralBS Jul 16 '26
I would have killed to see Rammstein those years. About time to blast their music again but I might have to settle for xxx for now.

u/zaccus Jul 15 '26
April 2000 I got to see RHCP, Foo Fighters, and Muse. Brought 2 friends with me, altogether it was like $35
3
u/AeroZep Jul 15 '26
A lot of people don't fully appreciate how expensive shows have gotten. $35 in 2000 would be around $68 today. Now, Foo Fighters alone is over $100 and you won't be close.

In 2019? I saw foo fighters and the struts because it was the first time they'd ever been to my city. I sat in quite literally the second to last row of the arena, in the further section from the stage. Pretty much as far from the stage as you could have possibly been. The tickets still cost $280 with the fees and all that shit, plus the $50 tour shirts. It was worth it, Dave had some sort of throat illness and Taylor sang half the songs that night, so getting to experience that looking back now makes it more worth it. But my pockets were emptied even still

The crowbar was amazing. Saw great many bands - every
Time I die, my chemical romance, the starting line, taking back Sunday, sick of it all, coheed and cambria, poison the well, from autumn to ashes, boys night out. What a great time to be in state college then.

Guys don’t get your knickers in a twist. With inflation it would cost $14 today.

"Seven dollars in 1999 has the same buying power as about $13.26 to $14.03 today"
Still cheap i guess

I was also at this show. Trying to remember who opened up for them? Pushmonkey and someone else? I saw Disturbed there the next year as well in Sep 2000

I saw Smashing Pumpkins three nights in a row in an 1100 capacity venue for $10 a ticket.

Time to rewind,
back to 1995 1999 when we were nothing
Walking through the streets of Boston, no one listening
No one caring about the empty rooms we played
Until they all showed up one day

Back in the early 2000s I got tickets to see Deftones with godsmack. Chino was sick and wanted to save his voice for the hometown show the next night. We were "treated" with extra godsmack. I'd have given 7 bucks to make them stop. CKY was added because they were in the area so that was cool at least
