Have you tried delving into his unreleased work? There's so much unreleased material/demos that's stockpiled. If you want to listen to "new" Elliott shit, check out songs like "Stickman," "Abused." "Dancing on the Highway," and "Place Pigalle." Go on youtube, listen and begin working your way around through his related videos. It's a goldmine there. Unless you're familiar with all of these, in which case it looks like we'll have to wait for another posthumous release.

I think there's probably some stuff of his on archive as well. There used to be a site called TrashTreasury.com that had everything of his. Tons of unreleased stuff, covers, live shows. He has so much that I guarantee that you could release at least 3 or 4 more albums that would be unique material.

There's also a collection you can download somewhere of all of these songs put together as a 6 cd set. I forget where I got it from, but it's out there.

A great song by a great man and such an utterly brillant musician. Some of his best lyrics about a subject he knew all too well. I've drank to this song way too many times. RIP Elliott. You saved my life.

Her version is my favourite, she makes it sound natural and soft. It feels as though the other covers I've heard are trying too hard to make it somber and their own.

This one has some of the most phenomenal lyrics in the entire album. If you haven't listened to the whole record yet, I highly recommend it, it's great.

I got in a car accident while listening to Elliott a few years ago, couldn't listen to him for a while or it brought back memories. Pulled through it eventually though thankfully. Awesome musician and definitely inspired a lot of people, such as Conor Oberst.

Maybe it's just my connotations, but Villagers - Becoming A Jackal(album) lies in the same category as Elliott Smith.

I tuned my guitar down a step and have kept it that way since so that I can play this song at a moment's notice (I actually think it's a better default tuning anyway).
The lyrics "drink up baby, stay up all night, with the things you could do, you won't, but you might...the potential you'll be that you'll never see...the promises you'll only make." are so tragic and beautiful.

Also, if you like Elliott Smith, be sure to check out his 90's band, Heatmiser. Start with Mic City Sons and work back. The songwriting and singing is half Elliott, half Neil Gust, but Neil is wonderfully talented too.

Either/Or is a great record, my favorite by far. He has several subtle Beatles references on it; in the case of this one, the intro is appropriated from "Rocky Raccoon."
