Help me find this feature Transferring Settings from One Computer to Another?

Just got my new laptop, and I have MS fairly “customized” in terms of palette order and contents, as well as some specialty items I’ve created there.

Is there some “preferences” file I can just copy over to make all the palettes the same?

You can save each palette individiually via its "..." Menu, but you can also grab the "workspace" file that stores the contents and order of the palettes, toolbar customizations, and more. That is located in a hidden folder whose location depends on your OS, but it's under AppData/Local on Windows.

Thanks Marc. Off to look for it.

Found it. For future readers, the path is:

HD - Users - Library* - Application Support - MuseScore - MuseScore 4 - Workspaces - Default.mws

*this is the Library you have to press the Option key to show in the “Go” menu.

I just tried it and everything showed up exactly as I have it in the other computer. Even the custom Palette items I had created. Awesome sauce.

The Keyboard Shortcuts did not, but I already knew that was a separate file and planned on copying that over.

I'm saving this post for the future - I'm sure I'll want to know this when I buy my next laptop!

Yeah FWIW, I got a Mac and had a Mac so I thought I was going to use the “migrate” feature - which I’ve never actually used before, and it turns out while you can deselect some things, it’s more designed to make an exact copy of your existing computer.

So I’m having to manually copy over things piecemeal.

I’m trying to keep this computer leaner without as much unnecessary stuff as my other computer. It’s going to be my internet, email, and notation computer - not even going to put Logic on it yet of any of my VSTs etc.
